No, you can't; if you're interested in a Mewtwo with Selfdestruct (and you have an AR), you should you use HGSS Pokésav along with a Show EV/IV code to recreate your Mewtwo with Selfdestruct added.

I did that with my prized Wobbuffet after realizing it didn't have Encore (it never was a Wynaut).
Is that even legal?
Also,

@Choice Specs
252SpA/6SpD/252Spe
Timid nature
Ice Beam | Aura Sphere | Trick | Thunder/Shadow Ball/Fire Blast

Is this effective?
So Azelf isn't obliget to carry Taunt when leading, but is it still a good option, or Fire Blast is superior?

Crits ignore defensive boosts. If there are none, I think the way the damage formula works may result in a minor difference between +2 and crit.

The +2 boost multiplies the actual stat so it comes close to the beginning of the formula. A critical hit happens after the equation divides 50 and the Def. There is a + 2 in between them that would make the critical hit do 2 more damage in the end, but since the game rounds down at the divide by 50 and the divide by Def, the +2 boost from attack could make the Atk divisible by 50 which would increase the damage by one and could do a similar thing with the divide by Def.

In other words, it you'll never notice a difference when the Pokemon is Lv. 100 besides the critical hit ignoring defensive boosts. You can read more about it here.

@ Dark Frosslass, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be considered legal if you caught the Wobbufet in a Gen 4 only ball because I think you can only run into wild Wynauts on Mirage Island in Gen 3. It would be the same if you caught Mewtwo in a Dusk Ball since that wouldn't have existed in Gen 3 where you would have Tutored it. I like using bulky leads like Metagross and Swampert so I always assume Azelf is going to Taunt and immediately start attacking it. I think most people will assume you're going to Taunt if you're faster than them, so you might be able to bluff Taunt and go straight to attacking them or setting up SR.

Of course Pokésav Pokémon are legal if their EVs don't total more than 510 and they don't have any illegal moves or the wrong ability. I'm not sure about IVs, but I think a RNG outputting ints 0-31 is a fair way to get them if you don't have IVs from a Pokémon in the game to use already.

Since all you're doing is taking all the stats (including Nature, EVs, IVs, level, whatever) of your legitmate Mewtwo and changing one of his moves to another move he can learn, it's legal.

EDIT: And like DDR said, just change its Ball if need be. There are a couple others things that you could change tofiten III, but none that are visible in battle.

Revisionist history for the win.

Where are some cool places to hatch eggs in HG/SS just for aesthetics? Sinjoh Ruins would be one, but I don't think I can go there without picking a dragon. Is there a list of all the locations in the game?

@ Dark Froslass: The legality of stuff like PokéSav is totally a matter of opinion. I personally consider any use whatsoever of PokéSav/AR/etc., even a "legal hack," is "illegal," but that's just me.

Elite Four, Victory Road, Bell Tower, Whirl Islands, Mt. Silver (right next to Red?), Pallet Town, Route 1... Sprout Tower if it's a Bellsprout. In Pearl I hatched an endless stream of Phiones in puddles (yes, I know Phiones are useless).

So-called "legal hacks" are generally accepted in competitive play, so there's a strong argument for them.

EDIT: A quick note, Dark Frosslass... You're probably aware of this, but I want to make sure. Saying 6 EVs doesn't mean anything more than 4 EVs since it's just one extra point either way (4/4 =1, 6/4 = 1r2). You aren't giving it extra in that stat versus if the 2 EVs were in any other stat. This is why Smogon analyses' EV spreads only add to 508.

I don't really know where to ask this but how do you rng abuse on HGSS? I've already checked the prng thread but it's getting me nowhere can anyone help me?

Just curious...I was browsing through the Smogon Tiers section and looked at Kecleon, and it states in it's Other Options section that Nasty Plot and Swift are illegal in the same moveset. Why is this?

Swift is available via Platinum/HG/SS move tutors. Not that I would actually use Kecleon to rely on SpAtks...Just curious as to how it's ilegal.

Before Platinum was released, Swift was only available from a Tutor in Emerald and Nasty Plot was a 4th Gen only Egg move. The Analysis for Kecleon must have been written before Platinum came out and they haven't gotten around to updating it because Kecleon isn't very good. Also, if they have updated it, they may have simply copy and pasted the old Other Options section into the new one.

I've checked around but can someone confirm if the roaming latias in HG comes back after beating the elite four, if you beat it previously. And if so is it reactivated by talking to steven outside the clubhouse bit?.

No. IVs work somewhat like EVs, they don't add directly onto your stat, but they effect it by a percentage. Like if your Pokémon has 252 HP EVs, the HP stat won't increase by 252 specifically, it increases by a percentage relative to your Pokémon's IVs, base stat, and nature if that stat is effected by the nature. The same goes for IVs

Oh, is it me or is thins confusing? But thanks! I do understand parts of it.

You mention base stats, what is this?

Every pokemon has base stats, and these are a huge factor in determining the final stat value of a pokemon. For example, Scizors base stats are 70 HP/130 Attack/100 Defence/55 Sp. Attack/80 Sp. Defence/65 Speed. This means that Scizor has great attack, good defence, decent sp. defence and HP. but no matter how much you invest, scizor will never have outstanding speed or sp. attack, simply because its base stats for those stats are too low. Blissey on the other hand, has 255 HP/10 Attack/10 Defence/75 Sp. Attack/135 Sp. Defence/55 Speed. Blissey's Sp. Defence and HP are gargantuan, but its attack and defence will always be pathetic, and there is not really much you can do about it. This is why Blissey is murdered by physical attackers. Hope i helped :)

Ok, so the base stats are determined for every single pokemon race? It doesn't change from the first Scizor I catch to second Scizor? Nothing like IVs, if you know what I mean? :)

Ok, so, I got to thinking. Even if time count on blocks in the Safari Zones resets if you change the clock on the DS, how would the cartridge know if it's not in when you change it? I.e. shouldn't it work to turn the DS off, remove the cart, turn on and change the date/time, turn off, insert cart, turn cart on, and reach whatever day requirements needed?

I.e. place the blocks in the rocky beach required for Gible, turn off, remove cart, turn on, set date to like August 28 (Gible's time requirement is 120 days), turn off, insert cart, turn on, and obtain Gible?

Or is there actually some way the cart would know even if it's not in when the date/time is changed?

Base stats are fixed for a particular species. They can be found on that Pokemon's Strategy Pokedex set. IVs vary from one individual to another, so that first Scizor you catch may have 12/31/4/3/25/31 and the 2nd 3/6/17/31/23/30, meaning that despite having the same base stats their stats will be different.

Hi, everyone. I've got this on the right sections of the forums this time; should've asked a moderator for help. Oh well.

Ok, I'm looking to train some pokemon up, that I've already got EV'd. I'm just wondering if anyone knows any locations in-game (that are not the Pokemon League) that have a team with a high-levelled chansey or something, that would get me a lot of EXP fast. At the moment, I'm using Pokemon HeartGold, and I can't transfer to my other games, wi-fi is down and we don't have another DS at home.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone would be able to help. :)

My best advice would be to look here:

http://serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/rematch-monday.shtml

Go through all seven days and see who's got the highest experience that you can readily beat.

A guy on ShoddyBattle claimed that I only won because I was using a banned pokemon. I asked what he meant and he said that Breloom is getting banned at the start of next season.

Confirm/Deny?

I don't think it will work (but you should try! :D) because I think the cart automatically updates the Pokegear time to match the DS's clock. I also think it has its own internal timer which controls events such as waiting for the Safari Zone and such, and if it senses an inconsistency it balks.

But you never know.

Greetings,

My Question for you today is:

At which point are the IV or a fleeing Legendary determined:

1. Upon Release (You know, the point where it starts running and you have to chase it down)

2. Upon First Encounter (Which would seem to be sickly unmantipulateable due to overbearing randomness)

I'm trying to catch the best possible Mesprit on Platinum atm. That's me reason to ask.

It means rubbish basically. Not stated because it's not considered relevant to the Pokemon.

IVs of roamers are set on their release. http://www.smogon.com/ingame/rng/dpp_rng_part4

Or is there actually some way the cart would know even if it's not in when the date/time is changed?
Yes. The exact method is unclear, but the cartridge does know. That's how the Pal Park frequency limit must be enforced, even when transferring from FRLG which lack clocks.

My guess is the DS firmware stores something when the time is changed. It could be the actual time set to, a checksum of the time set to, or a psuedorandom number. The game can check that. If the DS's value doesn't match what the game has stored from when it was last played, the game knows the clock has been changed.

Anyone got some ideas on a mix Lucario moveset? Same goes for a MixScarf Blaziken for OU.

Lucario
-Extreme Speed
-Vacuum Wave
-Close Combat(?)
-Dragon Pulse(?)

Blaziken
-Flamethrower/Flare Blitz
-Superpower/Focus Blast
-Thunderpunch/Stone edge(?)
-Brave Bird(?)

Sometimes, in trade threads and such, IV's might be listed something like this: 31/31/x/31/31/31. What does the x mean?
An "x" means that the IV doesn't matter at all. Such as a 31/31/31/x/31/31 Machamp, since nobody cares about Machamp's Sp.Atk. Usually it's only Attack or Sp.Atk that are "x"ed. Defenses shouldn't ever be "x" unless it's a Shedinja.
