What we have to realize is that something game changing happens every generation

1:Start

2: Introduction of new types and breeding

3: Created Abilities and Natures, as well as the introduction of double battles

4: Physical/Special split AND STEALTH ROCK

I may not even have everything there, but the pattern still stays the same; something's going to happen.
Fixed that for you. Humor aside, the introduction of new moves is also huge. In the first gen, many types didn't have any good moves (or even any moves). In second gen, that started to be fixed, but many types came across as subpar in the face of Flamethrower and its 90+ BP kin. In the 3rd and especially 4th generations, though, new moves brought many types previously thought to be offensively utterly useless into the spotlight. Bug got U-Turn, Rock got Stone Edge, Steel got Iron Head and (!) Bullet Punch, and so on. In 5th gen, we can expect to see many new moves that can really change the way the game is played. Who knows, we might even get some good Poison and Flying moves!

lol. Stealth Rock isn't that big a change for anyone besides competitive battlers. It's forgotten in casual play.

Everything fell in place in Platinum. Many Bug Pokemon got the long awaited STAB (even if it was Bug Bite, better than nothing). Many Other Pokemon got very reliable STAB as well as a usable move pool, i.e. Gengar, Misdreavus, Hitmonchan....

I want to see Fog as a new weather condition....

I don't think a Castform evo will happen.....If it did, that would be awesome (and I would abuse it on almost all of my teams, lol), but I don't think they will, IMO.......

A 5th moveslot / 7th Party slot won't happen. IMO, battling is nice w/ 6 vs 6 and keeping Infernape / Pory Z / Gengar / Lucario from being too uber....

Contests and the Pokelathon need wi-fi.....Pokelathon is great, and contests would be worth the effort of getting special Pokemon for if there were others to play w/.....Maybe add it to the new Stadium game for Gen 5 (and if the stadium doesn't have mini games, many will be upset. The origional stadium games were praised for them.....).

It is nice, but at some point it wont work anymore.

They need to include it at some point, perhaps not next gen but it's a must in future gens.

You know how hard it would be, perhaps even impossible, to cover hundreds of competitive pokemon when you're limited to only 6 Pokemon and 4 moveslots?

Why would it be impossible? There could be a million Pokémon but as long as you have a team of 6 Pokémon, each of them covering 1/6 of the mon in the game you have all 1 million mon covered. They don't need to add more team slots to maintain the balance of the game.

A combination of 8-10 moves should be enough to SE(Except Dark/Ghost mons) the whole metagame. 3-4 pokemon can resist everything and 2-3 moves should manage perfect nuetral coverage forever. It shouldn't be that hard to answer everything likely to show up.

As far as adding extra moveslots I think it would do terrible things to the metagame, a DD Mence with Draco Meteor, Outrage, Earthquake AND Fire Blast isn't a very fun thought.
However, I think if you could have 5 slots it would help in-game as an HM slave would be able to do its job better. They could implement this without changing battling by allowing you to choose the 4 moves you wish to take into battle.

That could work, selecting 4 of the attacks before going into battle.....

The thing is, I really don't think 7 move slots or 7 Party Pokemon b/c it isn't required. and as mention, some Pokemon would gain uber status (Lucario, Electrivire, Ape) b/c they can already cover a plethora of types, while others will suffer (can't think of any OU Pokemon, but loads of NU Pokemon would become even weaker).

I've thought they should nerf Stealth Rock in the new generation by just not making weakness or resistance apply, sort of like Spikes. Spikes is a ground move after all, but Fire-types and Poison-types don't receive extra damage if they come in on spikes.

Just a thought.

Salamence and Gyarados. The consensus opinion is it should only be increased or reduced by a factor of 2, not 4, as losing half health is simply too brutal to most 'mons.

I think teams of 8 might help. My view is currently full singles teams are on the edge of being able to handle all threats. You can just about cover all the major and many lesser ones, which is a good situation - it makes teambuilding challenging, but rewards getting it right.
Gen 5 will bring many new threats. Unless it also brings some Pokemon that are very good general-purpose checks/counters, like Blissey stopping pure special attackers, then 6 Pokemon can never cover everything, and matches will almost always be decided just because your opponent happens to be using what you can't deal with - and if your team could deal with it, it couldn't deal with something else, like trying to put a carpet in a too-small room.
On the other hand, Game Freak don't seem to see this issue. All evidence is they consider three Pokemon enough in singles, and 4 in doubles.

Looks like we're going to get our starters info come this weekend from CoroCoro.
We've come a long way since early this year when Gen 5 was announced!

Just for a fun prediction:
Grass Starter: Based on a Sphenodon. Grass/Psychic. (The third eye)
Fire Starter: Based on a fire ant. Fire/Bug
Water Starter: Based on a mantis shrimp. Water/Fighting

My predictions:

Grass: Four legged reptilian creature with a plant on its head or back.
Fire: Dual typed with Fighting (at least, its final evo is). Two legged, standing somewhat upright.
Water: Will have legs.

The Grass starters have always been reptiles, huh? I wonder if this generation will change that. I think we have enough Fire/Fighting Pokemon. I'd like to see a change. Something cool but not weird like Fire/Ice. We haven't had a starter Pokemon without legs so I'm going to agree with you there...unless they make like some fish Pokemon.

Truth. Face it, fire and fighting is a 6 year old kids dream. A fucking chicken who kicks people?! FUCK! A monkey on fire?! FUCK YEAH!
Anyone over 10 is not GF's main audience so they arent gonna change stealth rock nor are they gonna make us have 5 moves so your god forsaken generic OU team can earthwuake its way to victory over people who are trying to have fun. Meh.

Oh, I'm so excited to see the starters!!

I'm hoping for these:

Fire Starter: Fire -> Fire / Ground -> Fire / Ground, based on a Lion with a burning mane

Grass Starter: Grass -> Grass / Electric -> Grass / Electric, based on a hart with sparks between the deer's antlers

Water Starter: Water -> Water / Fighting -> Water / Fighting, based on ... I don't know, but a Water / Ghost would be very interesting, too, imo

Another Fire/Fighting? Man, I sure hope not. It's hard to see how Gamefreak could top Infernape...I guess they could go for a bulkier, more defensive Pokemon, but Fire/Fighting would be a pretty bad defensive type. But yeah, the Grass type will probably end up being a reptile. I don't really have a problem with that, since I think it kinda makes sense...plants absorb the sun for photosynthesis, and reptiles have to bask in it to elevate their body temperature. As long as it's something cool (flying dragon lizard please please please) I don't mind.

Good point about the water evo. I think it's safe to predict that all the starter Pokemon will have four limbs. There's plenty of precedent for that. Also, we know Ash and Co. are going to get the starters in the anime sometime or another, so whatever form they take they'll probably look like as if they can walk, fly, and/or perch cutely on someone's shoulder. I've seen a few DeviantArt sketches of starters that look like dolphins and the like. Cool idea, but it's probably not going to happen.

What's a flying dragon lizard, you ask? Check it out: http://magma.nationalgeographic.com/ngexplorer/0703/images/articles_gallery_2_0703.jpg

My hopes for the starters are a Grass/Fighting Koala with high Attack and Speed, a Fire/Dark Tiger with high Attack, high Speed, and usable SpA, and a Water/Psychic... something with mixed sweeping stats. Physical waters besides Gyarados are farely rare, so a mixed offensive Water could be interesting.

lol... no one gets this.

Exactly the same as DP xD

I personally LOVE the grass starters, well Meganium is ok, but the other three are very cool. I'm hoping gen V continues the trend with reptiles for grass starters, but I could also see a gila monster as fire/dark. A true lion would be cool as well for the fire starter.

I don't usually play OU, so that actually makes sense. Max 25% health from Stealth Rock would be painful, but you could actually survive. I could actually use Charizard as a competitive Pokemon again.

I'd really like to see them make HMs separate from moveslots. It's so lame having to go around with two pokemon devoted exclusively to HMs ALL OF TIME. It'd be good if you could still teach them as moves, because Surf, the single useful HM move, is such a staple of water types.

Waterfall isn't useful? :p I see what you mean, though. It's annoying to have to have HM whores, but the sacrifice is necessary!

They should make the water starter a Poliwag clone.

I want a Poliwrath with 535 BST / 110 Base Attack, damnit. Even if it has to swap Water Absorb for Torrent.

lol. What in the world could their abilities be?

Magainium just happens to be my favorite Grass starter....Him and Charizard (I love Pokemon who aren't great competitively, and as such, will probably never be able to make a team of all my favorites...."sigh").

I don't like the idea of a fiery lion.....I saw a Pokemon MMORPG advertisement here on Smogon and there was some fake fiery lion there....And I think it would look kind of cheesy seeing just about every other game w/ monsters has broken it....

(flying dragon lizard please please please)
Tropius says hi.....

....But I see what your saying....A grass type who can use DD better than Tropius.....

sigh....has long the starters are not the same piece of shit(both sprite and stats) has gen 1 and 2 starters i am fine when then, gen 3 and 4 starters were the best because they are competitive viable(yeah, even torterra and blaziken) different from the shits that are meganium, blastoise and charizard.
