lol. What in the world could their abilities be?

Magainium just happens to be my favorite Grass starter....Him and Charizard (I love Pokemon who aren't great competitively, and as such, will probably never be able to make a team of all my favorites...."sigh").

I don't like the idea of a fiery lion.....I saw a Pokemon MMORPG advertisement here on Smogon and there was some fake fiery lion there....And I think it would look kind of cheesy seeing just about every other game w/ monsters has broken it....

Hmm well I was thinking along the lines of a lion that breathes fire, but isn't actually on fire. It would be similar to Ninetales/Arcanine, but instead of the fox/dog design it would be a lion.

I'm not saying a fiery lion is a bad idea, It just looks cheesy IMO....

Something like them would probably be better, IMO....Just keep in mind: Luxray is a lion...
It would probably have to be special based unless they release physical Heat Wave or something like that, considering Blaze Kick probably won't happen, and Fire Punch wouldn't make sense.....

I'd love the idea of a cheetah starter--it would be so fast it would scorch the earth in its wake. Extra awesome points if they incorporated the design of a "king" cheetah into its creation. It would also give GF an excuse for making a fire-typed priority move. :P

120ish base speed, and...I guess 90-100ish offensive stats. Fragile as wet tissue. Maybe part ghost at its final evolution to compensate.

Oh yes, we definitely need more glass cannon Fire types. Really, it'll just end up with one being the best and the others getting consigned to mediocrity, like Infernape and Blaziken. I'd like to see a really, really bulky Fire. I mean bulky enough that -25% on switching in isn't a problem. The Lugia of OU, so to speak.

One thing the game needs is fire priority. take that scizor. Also, a ghost starter evo would be awesome, though if it became ghost in its 2nd form that would be awesome so you would be immune to the ever common normal attacks in the early game.

Torkoal says hi. I am using him as a gimmick on my new team and I out-stalled Walrein in the hail. After I burned w/ Lava Plume, Rested until......it ended.....lol....Amnesia completely stopped Surf from doing anything.....

EQs from Gyarados are a 3HKO after a DD or 2.....And after it's burned....

I also saw someone use bulky Entie w/ Will-O-Wisp + Reflect....Flareon has wish and a pretty good Sp Defense, as well as Will-O-Wisp.....

If a bulkier Torkoal, than hopefully w/ Instant Recovery. Rest can be annoying, and a lot of Pokemon are lower tier b/c a lack of instant recovery (most notable: Weezing).....lol, Fire Type Shuckle!

Remember when Gardina, the Grass Gym leader, was afraid of ghosts and didn't know what she would do if a Grass/Ghost was discovered.....lol....I wonder where that may lead....

I once thought up a Grass/Ghost type. Reasonably fast (Base 90 speed seemed OK, but maybe 110 as not to be annoyed by Infernape) mixed sweeper....It was a floating cactus (I still have some pictures I drew years ago and they look...interesting lol. It looks pretty cool despite how strange a floating cactus sounds)....

Fire type priority has been mentioned several times in this thread. It would be one of Fire's best improvements (That, and maybe a physical attack not limited to those who stand up-right). Should it be physical or special?

Looking at some of the RBY Sprites......It makes me want an 8-Bit mode even more....

l
Tropius says hi.....

You misunderstand me. "Flying Dragon Lizard" is the actual name of the animal in that picture I posted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draco_volans

Basically, they've been my favorite animal ever since I was a kid, when I watched a National Geographic Video on them. So naturally, I'd like a Pokemon based off one, since we don't seem to have one yet...same goes for Basilisk Lizards, Electric Eels, Moose, and Anemones.

What about you guys? What are some animals/plants that you'd like to see made into Pokemon?

Edit: @Rein: Yes! I saw one of those things watching Blue Planet. Definite Pokemon material.

Oh.....My mistake then...I though you just meant a dragon-like grass Pokemon who can fly.....

Vampire Squid....Sounds odd, but it is one of the most insane things I have ever seen....I can't think of a good stat distribution for competitive battling, though....

I also want to see that thing on Slowbro's Tail become a usable Pokemon. Give Shellder a branch evo. Make it a defensive behemoth w/ the same Defense as Shuckle (255 or so), 85-100 HP, 20 Sp Defense and a move pool that's far from limited. I have got some stats I made up a while ago......

But a more likely evo would be a special defensive one, seeing as Cloyster is already defensive....but that would be overshadowed by Blissey....

The inspiration was how all decent walls have barely usable HP (Bronzong, Dusknoir), very small move pool (Scizor, But U-Turn, Bullet Punch, Super Power, and Roost/SD is usually enough to do something) or both (poor Shuckle....).

I think all the starters should be animals with no arms or legs. Their movepools would be amazing.

And those vampire squids look very strange and scary. I love the bony-like tentacles, it makes it look extraordinary.

They look very odd in the pitch black off the deep ocean, but I saw one in lighter waters and it didn't look so creepy....The lights give it a kind of mystical look if you look at it on Youtube...

The problem is it doesn't do much.....It doesn't move very fast or even puts up a fight (how it reacts when a predator is near was genius.....I have never seen an animal do anything like it, not just curling up, but also when it glows and slooowly dims out to make it look like it's getting away) b/c there is almost no food and even less oxygen as deep in the water as it is, forcing it to move as little as possible and preserve as much energy as possible....

lol. Limbless starters would be sooooo interesting.....It would be as versatile as Shuckle and Luvdisc. lol

A pokemon based off a Camel Spider. That would be interesting.
I am looking it up right now, and it would definitely get Cut and Gastro Acid....maybe Bite/Crunch, Foresight, Rock Climb.....

lol. I can imagine it as a Pinsir evo/pre evo (although he doesn't need one, IMO....).

You know, I think I'd like the starters to be based off of a different type circle, like flying/fighting/rock or dark/psychic/fighting. It would be an interesting change, but still workable. I don't really see it happening, though, since the original circle is what Game Freak and the populous is most comfortable with using. Don't wanna risk too much with a generation change.

The main point of Water/Fire/Grass is b/c it is one of the most easy-to-understand and obvious typing circles. I easily understood that ring before I learned the Dark/Psychic/Fighting one. And I didn't know about the Flying/Fighting/Rock not too long ago. Many younger children like and understand it more as F/G/W.

One of the things we need to keep in mind when running theories is that GameFreak does not care about the competetive metagame. The vast majority of thier audience is mainly children and non-competetive gamers. Therefore, most of their choices will pander to those audiences. They will also not make any attempt to fix broken pokemon/movesets in the Competetive Game, because they just don't care enough about such a small portion of thier market.

We don't know this. Hell, the designers might play competitively themselves. I'm sure they play against themselves and want to keep a certian maximum power level, and want people to play on an even level. I guarantee they know about the competitive community. They hold tournaments. They understand a good deal of the game balance.

Totally agree.

I disagree. Gamefreak may not analyze competitive Pokemon to the extent that we do here on Smogon, and yes, the single-player storyline probably receives the majority of their attention. But they obviously care about competitive play, as many of the moves they've created are so useless in the main game:

Recover/Slack Off - Why bother wasting a moveslot when you could just buy a Hyper Potion?

All of the True Status moves - Oh, Elite Four Member Koga wastes a turn hitting me with Toxic? Fine, I just use a Full Heal. Then we're right back where we started.

Refresh/Aromatherapy/Heal Bell - See above.

Stealth Rock/Spikes - Two of the most annoying moves on Shoddy lose much of their effectiveness in the single-player game, since the brain-dead AI only switches when its Pokemon are KO'd.

These are the most obvious ones, but there are a whole lot of others. Have you ever Leech-Seeded Lance's Dragonite, or Substituted when battling Cynthia's Garchomp? No, and why would you? It's simply not necessary. If Gamefreak was exclusively interested in children, why would it include these moves that a typical child wouldn't understand, let alone use?

Someone pointed out something interesting to me. For the last two gens, we've had a flightless bird in each starter trio. And it's been in the same order that the first two of the commonly recognized "dragon-like" starter pattern was: Fire then Water. Could we be seeing a Grass starter that's a flightless bird this time around?

For those who don't know what I mean with "dragon-like" starter, it's that Charmander, Totodile, and Treecko all evolve to the point where they can learn Dragon Claw. Treecko's stature (two legged, dragon-like) was predicted by many before he was revealed. An avian Grass starter wouldn't be a surprise, I'd say.

Wow, that's an interesting observation. Nice job spotting that pattern. So, a flightless, Grass-typed bird...a Kakapo, perhaps? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kakapo

I saw one of these things watching Animal Planet, if anyone's wondering why I appear to have memorized the names of random animals.

GF obviously knows + cares about us competitive players seeing, as mentioned, there are so many moves non-competitive players would obviously never utilize, as well as items, berries, and herbs that are not only really rare, but the fact that they are single use proves they had us in mind. A 7-year-old isn't brain dead, and will learn that Focus Sash's are a pain to get, are unnecessary when you have revives, and will go away after 1 use. And as such, they will probably resort to different items, in many cases even Focus Band. Can you imagine having to go underground every time you use Flingball Groudon?

Bulbapedia also mentioned in several of their articles, as well as Serebii, that several things like the Battle Tower, Battle Frontier, and Pokemon Battle Revolution were all w/ competitive players in mind.

They will put the casual players ahead of us for obvious reasons, but tend to have a little something stowed away for us.

Does anyone know if they will release final form starters, or their basic forms? Or is there no pattern? I can't remember what was released first in DP....

zombie pokemon anyone? poison/dark with dry skin or whatever you want, resident evil atack the pokemon universe! is up to the pokemon trainers to use they pokemons to destroy the zombies! yeah dumb idea but dream about this kind of stuff is so awesome.

lol. I don't know about your storyline, but aren't Parasect and Bannete both zombies?

Parasect is a lobster-like corpse completely animated by the fungus on it's back (poor, poor Paras has to look forward to this) while Bannete (Or Shuppet, I can't remember which...I'm pretty sure both) are toys that were thrown away. They haunt, looking for their child owners. Bannete's soul will escape if it's zipper is un-done or opened (fainting animation in the 3D Games is him falling as his zipper opens).

lol, Bannete's life is over if it is caught w/ it's fly down.
