Also, did anybody notice the arrow from the HGSS and Pt playable characters to the new characters? Can somebody tell me what that text there means? Does it just say that the new trainers will be older, or does it say something else? If anybody knows Japanese, I would appreciate if they told me what it meant.

My japanese is a bit rusty, but I could give it a try. The only thing is I don't see the other characters on either of the Serebii scans. Are there scans of the whole page floating around?

I gotta say, until this generation I always went with either the Grass or Fire guy, but that water starter looks fucking weird in a good way, I'm probably gonna go with him.

POLL RESULTS SO FAR:

Grass starter: 457
Fire starter: 298
Water starter: 1

Wow.. did we call it or what? I'm pretty sure we had guesses that looked just like these. I'm so proud.

Fire Starter ftw though. Love the color scheme.

Water looks like crap as I expected.. and Grass.. has potential to be badass.. depending on colors later on.. and eyes.

Yeah Smogoners were spot on with the grass lizard/ fire pig/ otter predictions. I hope the final grass evo isn't to similar to sceptile

Rough translation from /jp/:

>Pokemon Black and White starters!

>In the Isshu region a new adventure awaits!

>3 new starter pokemon: Tsutaaja a Grass/Fighting pokemon of ivy, Pokabu a Fire/Dark pig pokemon and Mijumaru a Water/Psychic pokemon that can roll into a ball.

If this is true, the typing is VERY cool. Everyone knows that the grass > water > fire triangle exists, but if you look at their secondaries... The triangle is reversed.

DAMN those are some weird-ass types imo. they look nothing like that at all!!!

How often does Corocoro make these magazines.

If it's monthly does that mean we'll have too wait another 31 days before we get the chance to see any evolutions or any Legendaries?

+ What difference will it make having older character sprites?!?
Do they get to drive cars, or start with trained pokemon or or anything like that O.o

That grass type starter's a straight up pimp. Look at its slight grin. Pure confidence. I dig the shoulders.

The water type looks like a pussified Zangoose. Kinda cute though, I don't understand why people are saying it's ugly.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, the fire pig is adorable. I might honestly end up loving it more than Charmander.

Overall, beats the shit out of gen 2 and gets gen 3 by a hair imo.

Also, is it confirmed that the secondary types of fighting, dark, and psychic are fake? I could see it because it's like fire, water, and grass all over again, just reversed. I'd be pissed if I used like flamethrower on the grass one and got outsped and CC'd though.

The more and more I look at the water starter the more I like it.

Never never never. I just cannot figure out why it's head is white and it's body is blue. It doesn't look right at all. Even if they fixed that it would just look like a blue Bibarel. It will need an amazing evo for me to pick it, right now I'm thinking grass but fire is growing on me so fast.

Oh actually, I said it in an earlier post but the picture of the fire pig looks horrible whereas the sprite looks really nice, so maybe when I see the water type's sprite I will change my mind..

Zoroark has the Illusion ability apparently, which lets it change into other Pokemon, so we were right about it being something similar to Transform. I wonder if this means it'll be screwed competitively.

Well I absolutely love all the grass starters (except Chikorita) so I'm still going to pick the grass starter, and the fire starter is still sweet, it's just it doesn't look as bad anymore.

If this is true, its worse than Quiet Eruption Heatran.

I hope not..but is there any possible way it won't be with an ability like that?

A move called Trickery (イカサマ) seems to allow the attack to be calculated using the opponent's stats
Another move called Claw Sharpen (つめとぎ) raises the user's Attack and Accuracy

Source: serebii.net

First accuracy rising move (besides Acupressure) sounds nice. On the other hand I don't get what Trickery is about.

If the mechanics of Zoroark's are as simple as Transform (transforming into the opponent's active pokemon) then it will be a shame. If the mechanics are more complex, like allowing you to look through your opponent's team and transform into one of those pokemon, it would be infinitely Uber.

If I showed you a picture of Torchic before it came out and told you it would evolve into a Fire and Fighting Pokemon, you'd laugh at me. They don't need to look like those types because (I assume) only their evolved forms are going to gain those types. I think if they do go with Dark/Psychic/Fighting, they would go with Grass/Dark, Fire/Psychic, and Water/Fighting since I can see a snake being Dark more easily than one that's Fighting.

Predictions for Zoroark and Illusion:

Works exaxtly like Transform and activates when it switches in:
It will have a tough time competetively, unless it gets massive HP or comes in on something like a sleeping DD Gyarados.

Makes Zoroark appear to be another Pokemon:
It would be gimmicky, but it could allow you to play mind games with your opponent, especially if you make it look like a Ghost Pokemon.

Lets you choose which Pokemon Zoroark turns into when you get it and it stays that way forever:
I'm not really sure how they could impliment this, but it would completely destroy Species Clause, since you could just have Zoroark transform into anything and (most likely) still have it count as Zoroark.

Edit: I don't think we'll know exactly how Trickery works until we can get the ROM but I think it could work by using your opponents Atk/SpAtk to hit them. Claw Sharpen seems like it won't be too useful outside of the Battle Tower, since everything that gets it will most likely get Swords Dance and any attack that would be made 100% accurate by it, already has decent accuracy.

The whole.. starter triangle advantage being reversed makes me believe even more how the creators said, " the game will make you question, is this even pokemon?"

I'm officially going with Grass though. It will have X-Scissor to deal with the Psychic's.. so fuck yes.

edit: DDRMaster, I know what you're talking about, on the starter evos.. the creators can and have made drastic changes for the final evos. Piplup to Empoleon is a perfect example.

I can see both ideas though for dual typing.

But Grass/Dark would make me pretty bummed.. I don't want a "better" Cacturne.

The Grass Starter is called the Grass Snake Pokemon?? Ehh..

I'm already picking up the Grass starter. That thing looks so damn awesome.

Also liking the new moves. Trickery sounds like it could be useful in a Seismic Toss-like way, and Claw Sharpen is just... wow, I hope Tyranitar gets it, as I can see a Claw Sharpen / Stone Edge / Aqua Tail / Crunch moveset being not as frustrating.

Here you go:

Cool. Thanks!

Judging just from the yellow text at the top of that box, it seems like CoroCoro is just highlighting the fact that the new protagonists are older in comparison to those from D/P/Pt and HG/SS. I'd like to do more, but I honestly can't make out a lot of the smaller text. It's too blurry.

We've seen Zoroark launch attacks, if he transformed on switching in that would be impossible. My bet, if you switch in on him he transforms. That way he switches in on something he counters. You switch in something, an unless it's a scarfed dragon/ghost risk a speed tie/likely resisted hits. That said, scarfed dragons/ghosts will have their own set of problems with him. Like obvious switches/revealing what they are holding, etc.
