The gears could become part of a giant robot . . .

You mean like this guy?:

Also, didn't Budew, you know, give Roselia the Status Powders? That's enough for me to appreciate its existence.

Why? why couldnt they just guve them to Roselia? It just doesnt make sense for me, it seems prevos are just there because theyre cute.

and that is the damn fucking reason, dont you know gamefreak is a company that make pokemon for KIDS? sure they care about the competitive value, but they are FORCED to add cute pokemons for the little kids, dont complain about pre evos ok? at least it add something for us to use in LC.

yeah they are pretty cute, if you think for a sec a 6/7 years old boy would LOVE elekid, and a girl would think budew is cute(heck, i think elekid is cool and budew is cute for god sake).

Someone already said that adding Budew made it so that you could catch the Roselia line early game without it being broken. Prevos also work well for LC and are cute. They have more pros than cons. While they shouldn't give something a prevo just to give it new moves there are legitimate reasons for their existence.

As for Arcanine, he's a mono-fire quadruped. His movepool is always going to suck. Infernape has an awesome movepool because he is a fire/fighting biped. Typing and anatomy determine movepool.

I don't care if they make pre-evos, I just don't want hem spamming a lot of them. Some pre-evos actually helped like Budew and Happiny (move wise). While you could argue why they wouldn't give them to their evos in the first place, pre-evos are there for reasons people have mentioned before me.

I think everyone can agree that Chingling was useless.

You know, the only reason Wobbuffet can have Encore is because of Wynaut. I don't think they would have given it Encore if Wynaut wasn't there (especially because it can't learn it as a Wobbuffet and needs to learn it before evolving). And Encore is one reason why Wobbuffet is banished to Uber, isn't it?

I think only big Pokemon with decent stats should have prevos. Like Lapras, Kangaskhan, and even Pinsir (just examples from the top of my head).

they dont say we put your pokemon to fuck on a place full of old mans now do they? these days pokemon is getting a more mature audience, but regardless of this gamefreak still make pokemons only for the cute factor, and cool ones like infernape and Lucario for the competitive value.

... Really?? Breeding mechanics alone should indicate that they have no true target audience.

i don't think those were meant to be know, i'm guessing they were just there so that 2 pokemon were completely different (even if same species/nature/color/gender/sexual orientation/religious affiliation/etc) just for the sake of 'every pokemon is unique' shit (meaning their stats would be different)

Same point. They could have just given it to wobby.

And i´m not against prevo themselves, but theyre just wasting developing time :/

There is no reason to keep filling up slots in the Dex that could have been used for really cool Pokemon in Gen 5 (Think of Gen V's Electabuzz/Magmar example.) in order to create a pre-evolution that would give 1-3 moves. I would just reccomend that they change the base movepools of the old pokemon before giving them half-assed prevos or evos. I believe I raised this point earlier with an Agility Heracross example.

TLDR: No more prevos, just update the old guys/gals.

Because they forgot the other end of the equation: an excellent evolution. Hopefully they'll fix all this for 5th-gen.

You're assuming they have limited Pokedex slots. Why would that be the case?

No, because GameFreak at least seems capable of putting together coherent sentences without trying to impress everyone by saying "fuck" every other word.

Also for flavor and the fact that most animals begin life as babies.
and cool ones like infernape and Lucario for the competitive value.
And also for kids who want to use cool-looking Pokemon on their teams.

I really like the idea of Gearu's final evolution being something made up of a bunch of Gearu's to make some sort of animal-like machine powered by clockwork. It'll probably keep Plus/Minus as Abilities though.
I'm guessing Gears has that Plus/Minus ability not because of any affiliation with electrical charge, but because of (counter)clockwise spin. In mechanics, we often denote the direction of spin with +/-, so this would make sense for a clockwork Pokemon. I hope it doesn't keep that ability though.

I'm calling it right now, this Pokemon or its evolution will get Rapid Spin.

Each generation usually has around 100 or so new Pokemon. I would personally like to see none of those be pre-evolutions that we would only use for Little Cup, just for the sake of getting their evolutions a new move that a simple base movepool change could fix.

the pokemon revealed so far from gen 5 look awful.
I actually haven't seen many people complaining. The starters did take some getting used to for me, but I instantly liked the pigeon, chinchilla, fire gorilla thing and zebra. I haven't thought "Wow, that is a terrible Pokemon" (like I did for female Wobuffet) yet. Munma is pretty creepy, but I think for the most part the new Pokemon fit in pretty well.

Plus I've wanted a zebra Pokemon like, forever. Now we just need a true lion and a more elephant-looking Pokemon than Donphan.

Errr... did you quote the right post? I didn't mean to imply Gearu had anything to do with electricity.

Even with these things turned off to the player, they are still in the system itself and without proper testing a glitch could form and go unchecked. Anyway, those little changes were present between DP and Plat so it is my theory that this is where the glitch formed and since, to my observation, nothing changed between Plat and HGSS, the glitch continued. It is possible that GF didn't know about it in time, or it is possible that they did not care. In either case I find it very hard to believe that something so ridiculous could have been intensional.

Well, I never said it was intentional. But I agree with you, the only possible reason for the glitch to have appeared are the new forms. There really isn't anything else that has any relevance to in-game battling that could have done it.

My mistake.

Anyway, my point in my original post was that we have seen changes in the battle system between Gen 4 and Gen 5 to go so far as to suggest that the program has been rewritten as opposed to coded on top of.

Not really. What we have seen until now is that the sprites are animated, the moves go faster, Intimidate is informed more clearly, etc etc. There isn't any change yet as big as the physical-special split and the changes in end-of-turn events from ADV to D/P, and remember that, even with those changes, there was a Pursuit glitch that got carried on.

Of course, I really do not want to see the Acid Rain in B/W, but I'd really not be surprised if it were carried on to 5th Gen.

Anyone else think that Gear is just another worthless version of Magnemite and it's respected evos?

:|

Bronzor and Bronzong would like to have a word with you.

*Doesn't understand why Roserade wasn't enough and they had to waste space for Budew*

It wouldn't be nice to have wild Roselias before Roark. So they went with Budew.

And seriously guys, we may say pre-evos are useless, but do you really think they are a "waste of space"? Do you realize that not having Budew created would NOT mean we'd have something else to replace it? They didn't have to "create 107 pokémon" and put Budew there just as a filler. They put it because they wanted it. End.

Really, think of this outside of a competitive aspect, and into game design. Should we remove everything but final evos, so that we aren't wasting space for inferior Pokemon? Should we remove all NU Pokemon because they aren't good enough for UU or OU?

My thoughts exactly. C'mon guys, this is Smogon, but we shouldn't think competitive full-time. Specially in a thread about a game that we have no idea of the new mechanics and competitive features yet.
