@ Mario With Laser: At least Ice is good offensively , grass don't and defensively speaking capabilities is not anything to write home about barring some useful resistances to water (which most carry an ICE move anyways) and ground and grass itself ...

That's my point. Grass is a pretty meh typing, but it has a few crucial resistances. Ice's defensive type match is so horrid no one uses Ice-type pokémon (except for Weavile and Mamoswine but no offense, those who make them OU still are the same who use Electivire and Ninjask), only Ice-type moves. Getting STAB on it simply doesn't compensate that completely unfavourable type chart.

@ PKMN Trainer Mansion: *facepalm* Once again we saw that sarcasm on internet is a fail thing... Whatever XD.

@Mario With Lasers: hai,hai and the useful resistances get completely outclassed by the very common weakness it has (the water poke, that carry ice moves is a perfect example :/), BTW i lol'ed at the mamo and weaville part... so true.

What's with all the hate for Grass-types? It's by no means one of the worst types (at least not defensively). Resistances to Ground and Water? Huge. Electric and Grass? Significant.

Weak to Fire and Ice? Pretty irritating, but can be worked around; Bug is rare, and you never see Flying or Poison (lol Poison) attacks. If only Grass had better neutral offensive coverage, instead of GF deciding that everything and it's mother should resist it...

I admit I am one of the most biased people on this topic, though. Grass types FTW!

Exactly. Grass sucks horribly, but it's slightly better than Ice because at least its members are used in OU/Uber (even if by being extremely good (Celebi/Shaymin) or annoying (Breloom/Skymin)).

Well, I guess we agree on that at least lol.

I don't think Tsutarja's evolution is not going to be Grass/Dragon.
It's just too unfair to the other starter's STABs.

They have never done final forms where a starter with the disadvantaged primary type is not weak to the other's STAB.
Infernape may beat Empoleon 1 on 1 due to Speed and Fighting STAB but it can't switch into Empoleon's Water attacks.

My money is on Grass/Poison, Grass or the more unlikely Grass/Flying if they go crazy and "wingify" the yellow collar.

Weavile was so good on paper, too... an ice-type that doesn't care about the horrid defensive typing due to frailness, and strong attack and speed stats. If it was specially offensive instead, perhaps it would have been better...

Well of course, everyone wanted Sneasel to be Special rather than Physical ever since it was introduced because it couldn't use it's STABs, and now even after the Physical/Special split that saved it, it still wishes it had Special attacking stats so it could use Ice Beam / Dark Pulse instead of Ice Punch / Night Slash. The only problem with this is Weavile would lose it's most useful feature: a strong Pursuit.

It would appreciate higher-powered STAB moves, too ;)

That's what really made it suffer. If Weavile got Crunch or something else and maybe Technician it'd be a whole different story. But it's not powerful or bulky enough to stay around for long. Which is a shame to be honest :(

I've been reading this forum and I have just one question. Why is it that no one thought that tsutaja might just be a mono-grass type and not any other type coughdragoncough?

Not trying to hate on Wotter more than I already do, but wouldn't it NOT be /Fighting if turned out to be a samurai? I believe the type in Japanese translates to "Hand-to-Hand" (note: I could have mistranslated it). So, if this were true, and it turned into a samurai, wouldn't its typing be different? (I'm not expert on samurais, but I thought they used swords, not hand to hand)

@grass-ice discussion: I personally grass is better as it actually has good resistances and gets stab on Water (which is great in the current metagame). With ice, on the other hand, is by far the worst defensive type and would probably be on par w/ psychic and poison as an offensive type if it weren't for being SE against Dragon. Just my $.02

Because that would suck horribly and not make justice to awesome Smugleaf, the best design for a starter since glorious Bulbasaur.

Well it would be pretty much Sceptile all over again. Oh and it'd be coughredundantcough to the point of boredom. Seriously if Tsutaja will only be monotype it'll be unfair since it happened before. Its sad to see that happen while the other starters gains a second type. Thats just 3rd gen repeating itself. I will take any combo rather than mono.

glorious Bulbasaur.
I agree with this statement.
we wont be getting a pure flying for god sake. it would cause roost to make him become ???.
I've always wanted a ??? Pokemon... it could finally get STAB on Curse.

On a serious note, we won't be getting any pure Flying types in the future, that's a given. Although I never understood why there was no pure Flying type before Roost existed... I guess GF figured Pidgey & co. deserved STAB on Normal attacks too.

Hey now, I've swept entire teams with Jolly LO Mamoswine just because they didn't have a Bronzong or Skarmory. Most powerful Earthquake in OU is nothing to scoff at. That said, I agree Ice is a probably the worst type. I think the most comparable type is rock (offensively speaking) and it is much better off defensively with resistances to Fire, Flying, Normal, and Poison. Ice resists... Ice... :L.

Is no one considering the possibility of it becoming Grass/Dark? The coloration of the evo in the sketch is, from what I can tell, getting darker, and the Pokemon has always looked "tricky" and confident, befitting a dark type. Grass/Dark is unfortunately walled by Steel (although not by Jirachi/Metagross) but at least it can get past Celebi and Dragons and fire types not named Heatran/Houndoom. It's not much to write home about defensively, but it's a bit better than Grass/Poison and doesn't come with a useless STAB so...

What game do you guys play?
Mamoswine is great. Weavile has its uses (especially if it gets past Scizor). Rock is an awesome offensive type, as well as Ice. (Of course, Rock is also awesome defensively while Ice sucks beyond compare in this regard.) And if it wasn't for the odd Breloom and Smogon's not exactly well-designed tiers, our only OU Grass pokemon would be a Grass/Ice type. What does that tell us? lol
