Meh, the Vikings will still struggle mightily in some regular season games and definitely in the playoffs. They now have a much better shot at actually making the playoffs, though.

<-- is tired of hearing about Favre

How about Westbrook signing with the Niners? Bit of a risky move for sure given his recent history of injury, but as Gore should be carrying the bulk of the plays, Westbrook fits in nicely as a veteran option in case Gore gets injured.

Westbrook will make a great checkdown option for Alex Smith to help him be more comfortable. If he's ever going to mature into a good QB he needs to have as many safety nets as possible.

Lol @ Favre, who didn't see that one coming? I'm never going to believe a word he says until the day the season opens and he's either playing or not playing.

I really didn't want to post anything about Brett Favre, because that would give the incorrect impression that I give a flying fuck about anything that (BAN ME PLEASE)y hag does. Nobody outside of Minnesota/the ESPN studios really cares, I mean REALLY cares, so I wish they would just take his dick out of their mouths.

seems to be that Tampa is improving, luckily. I still don't get why analysts have such low expectations for them, the don't have that bad of a schedule at all.

One of the craziest heel turns in sports history. Favre was the golden boy, and no one is ever going to forgive him. Even worse Favre had earned back public favor after a great season (except for the stupid scorn over the actual playoff loss, but whatever), and now he pisses that down the drain and turns himself back into a heel? What a moron.

So...anyone see Favre finally retiring after losing in the playoffs again this year? Honestly, 20 years is a good spot for retirement (not to mention this is his last contracted year for now), if he was in a military branch, he'd be getting all sorts of benefits for 20 years of service. But yeah...who knows, maybe the Niners will put him out of commission this upcoming preseason game if he plays? I know we want revenge for that last second BS TD pass to force a loss...

I gotta laugh here.

First of all I doubt they'd let Favre stay in long enough to have a great risk of getting hurt... I mean he already has an ankle injury.

Second of all... YOU HAVE FAITH IN THE NINERS HAHAHA. Watching the Falcons beat the hell outta them when everybody was like "oshi- niners defense" was the best feeling ever. Almost as good as seeing the Vikings beat the Cowboys 34-3 when everybody was so afraid of the Cowboys. omg tooooooo funny. Preseason means nothing... the Lions go undefeated in preseason... so wat

Niners > all bro. Believe in the hype! Super Bowl is ours!

...ok, that won't happen again just yet, but it eventually will...in a funny irony, their situation is almost comparable to that of the Vikings pre-Favre; a solid defense, good running game (though upgrade that to great running game for Vikings have Peterson, Gore is no slouch for sure but still...), all that is missing is the great QB to help get them there. And Smith is not that guy...

And watching the Falcons get shut down on national television when everybody was like "oshi-Falcons offense" was even more satisfying.

In all honesty though, everything matters about the preseason. Everything except quarters 2-4 and the final score.

Even the first quarter is a stretch because most of the starters aren't even trying that hard

Any outsiders thoughts on the Lions? Around here the hype has me believing 6-10 max this year.
I like the Defense, and Stafford is looking a lot better.

Probably all they could hope for, they're obviously still not making the playoffs and still pretty much doomed to irrelevance I think for a few more seasons at the least. Doesn't help they play in a fairly rough division as well, where any of the other 3 given teams (Vikings, Packers, Bears) at a given time are dominant at some point; this year, all 3 easily outclass the Lions. The Lions really just can't compete within their division, which means at least likely 6 guaranteed losses unless they get pretty lucky.

Below the Lions? There's a bold prediction...we'll see lol.

Honestly, right now they have a solid defense I think (with Ulacher or however is name is spelled returning from injury) plus the free agent signings of Peppers. Cutler is a good enough QB if he can limit interceptions, and they have a few ok options on WR and a decent RB. I think they'll take another year or 2 to mash though, which could ultimately cost Lovie and the GM. Compare this to...uh, whatever state the Lions resemble...hell, if the Vikings didn't get Favre back, I'd be tempted to put the Bears on par with them, with only the Packers being pretty much the #1 choice for NFC North winner likely.

Yeah I still think the Packers will be #1 in the nfc north. I really hate saying that.

Favre will probably have his worst season yet, his Interceptions will be up by say 5-10 for the season.

lol at Bears hype

The Bears have been overhyped for what, 5 years now?

I'm calling my shot now and saying the Lions will finish second in the division. They will not make the playoffs however.

My reasoning is quite simple actually. The Lions have WAY more playmakers than the Bears on offense and a better (but not that much better) offensive line. The defense also will be much improved especially at getting to the QB. Although the Bears are a little better at CB it doesn't matter. They have no DT (Tommie Harris is a bum) and Peppers takes games off.

Now for the Vikings well it's also not that difficult really. Banged up receiving core, O-line that cant pass protect to save their lives (or Brett's) and a 41 year old QB who's due for a bad year AND some more bad karma. Did I mention the league's worst fumbler and the all time interception leader are on the same team? Minny's secondary is actually pretty bad considering injuries/age. Chris Cook looks good though so far. Only saving grace will be the pass rush and a run defense that was actually overrated last year.

Crazier things have happened.

The Bears have always been overhyped. As for Favre, wasn't he due for a bad year after the experiment gone wrong with the Jets? He definitely won't have as good as a year as last year, especially with Harvin's injuries, but he won't have as bad as a year as you think.

Even though they won't be as good as last year, there is no way they will be lower than 2nd in the North. The Lions and Bears are too bad to even think about getting a winning record.

I'm not a Bears fan, but I still say that they're a solid enough unit, I mean they have the potential for a solid defense and all they need is a few more changes on offense. Cutler by no means is bad, I'd much rather have him than quite a few of the other QBs out there. And still saying that if Favre hadn't returned, it'd be a mixup between Bears and Vikings for 2nd...neither of which probably would have made the playoffs regardless, but eh.

So umm, did the Packers actually add any players or are people just blindly hyping them? As far as I know, they still have a godawful offensive line (just like the Vikings!), which is going to be the main reason why they will have trouble in the division. Both the Bears and Vikings have great pass rushes (that's about all the Vikings have though), which will hurt the Packers just as it did last year. I'm not saying that they don't have a chance to win the division (I would argue that it is the 2nd worst divison in the NFL, coming only behind the NFC West, and even that is close), I just don't see how they improved at all from last year.

the packers last year were plagued by relatively minor, but prolonged/badly timed offensive line injuries. IIRC their starting LT went out, and right before he came back one of their guards went down. Im not sure how that situation actually unfolded, but this year they have a healthy offensive line, and they finished last year with the same healthy offensive line and did quite well to finish the year
