Monthly Art Contest 4!

I love the idea! That's very neat, I love the picture book perspective you took. If I'm not mistaken, the bit of text is quoted from the games, is it not?

The only thing I think I need to bring up are the grammatical errors in the text. Fixing them might be good for plus points or something, you never know! ;)

"The Dragon's Den is known for its Dragon Pokémon.
Myths say that there is a cave where all Dragon-type Pokémon live in harmony."

Final Entry

Well, here it is. I'm not exactly sure what I think of it yet, but this whole drawing on the computer thing is far harder than I imagined. I have no idea if a 5th Gen Pokemon is allowed where it never came up in the rules, but Zekrom has been classed as a Dragon/Electric Pokemon... and he was fun to draw. Hope everyone likes it.

neo: an interesting take! Nice markmaking and crosshatching. Love the edit, it really adds a focal point and mysterious, lovely quality with the subtle blue light being cast.

noobiess: now that's just adorable! :'> Nice idea looking towards the outside.

Kukem: Zekrom is my favorite ever. That aside, nice use of foreground/background-- the stalagmite pillar in front really pushes everything back into space! Great.

I think it's time someone posted a lame drawing to balance out all the awesomeness.

Under the mysterious waters of the Dragon's Den, complex caverns snake through and around the bottom of the lake's floor. These caves harbor shelter for the many individual Dragon-type Pokemon that find their way into the Den, such as Dratini. Though many mysteries are still held under the waves of this fabled cave...

Yeah, just a quick picture of Dragonair peering outside of the submerged cave. I tried to pull off some lighting on the cave walls, but as you can see, it didn't really turn out too well. Ah well, practice makes perfect, right?

I love working on a tight deadline so I started mine today:

something unseen is using draco meteor

and poor dratini is like:
ahhhhh

anyway, the backround isn't going to be orange, I just like working on a colored canvas... I'll add some blue and green walls later, which will be pretty hard

also guys I need tips on how to make bubbles :(

shinxe's and icepick's pictures have both won me over...

maybe I shouldn't have rushed mine out so quickly :(

I probably haven't perfected this pic, but it's not going to get better before the deadline. Hope you enjoy.

Dragon__s_Den_by_StevenChong_no_GMF.jpg

Bring a little bit of Japan into the art again. I imagine it more as a shrine than as a temple personally (Japanese design rather than Chinese). More than anything, I envisioned the Dragon's Den as a sort of spiritual place-- a place of somber prayer. Being in a cave, it is cut directly from human ties and connected directly with nature. Thus, Shinto rather than Buddhist. Had to put this one off until my main pics for The Smog were done, because I wanted to put in more effort on this side.

Just to be clear, I drew Lance and Claire as little kids. Claire's little bowe meant to look like a dratini face. :D

Lot of awesome entries so far. My personal favorite of the previous ones so far is Neo's. It's got a unique style and character-- though I would have liked to see Dragonair brought out more.

@noobiess - Now it looks just like it came out of a story book! I love it, I really do! :) Just be sure to take out that one set of quotation marks at the end! I'm being nit-picky, I know, but I just want your entry to look the best it possibly can! :) Again, I think the story book take on this is just oh-so-charming!

@ChouToshio - I'm very impressed with the cultural elements you decided to incorporate. It does remind me of Spirited Away! And I'm loving the Dratini. :)

Urgh, I don't think I can finish my entry tonight. It's okay if I post it tomorrow morning, right?

I live in Japan now (recently moved here for work)-- so it's on my brain. Too bad I don't live in Johto, er, I mean Kansai. Last week was Obon, the village had its furusato matsuri (hometown, "origin" festival). It kind of put me in the mood-- I was tempted to put in fireworks too but decided that made no sense, lol.

Hate to say I'm dropping out..
I finished my image but I don't have access to that computer for a week.
Soo..
Good luck to all,
Zekrom looks absolutely fantastic :D

I might be slightly late in saying this but ChouToshio your entry is soooo gooood! Is the background painted from scratch or a photo manipulation?

I used a variety of filters to cover up the fact that I'm a shitty artist. In hindsight, I should have done Aerodactyl differently as the really rigid style I employed drawing it pretty much can't be seen anymore.
