flash games - mark 2

Playing Heir now and I am hooked! Would highly recommend to everyone who enjoys well-designed platformers.

EDIT: Much much too short

At first I thought you'd actually use your sword in action, not just 'automatically', but then I saw the buttons, the whole graphics/music/story/style of play seriously made up for that.

Heir was amazing, but short. but Kongregate's time-based achievement made it worthwhile. Level 15 yeah!

also, this may have been posted before, but Solipskier is the most fun I've had out of an arcade-style game in months. It's seriously got near infinite replay value, and I liked it so much I bought it on the app store.

Heir was a lot of fun. If only because it gave me huge loads of nostalgia about SotC. I think it was the perfect length, because there isn't a whole lot to innovate for new levels other than the scenery. The music when you made it to the top and stabbed the golem was annoying though, it just seemed out of place. It was like, "HUGE FUCKING EPIC DEATH SCENE" except I feel like SotC was more like, "HUGE FUCKING SOMBER DEATH SCENE"

Yeah..

The one thing I hated about Heir is climbing. Jumping slightly solved that problem but it was a pain to move left and right.

But it wasn't SotC. Clearly the thought process was "let's build a 2D SotC", but they play nothing alike and don't have the same kind of story. Or much of a story, in Heir's case. Heir was really weak in that regard.

I didn't care for Heir at all, really. The giant monsters you were climbing were kinda neat -- and even bigger than the ones in SotC, I think -- but the gameplay wasn't very interesting.

Neither of them really had too much of a story. SotC's story existed, but in no way did it command the game. And apparently platformers don't play like platformers?

agreed, gave up after third level

The gameplay for Heir didn't really bother me so much, since there weren't enough levels for me to get tired of it. I didn't really like the ending, though. Kinda made me go "wtf?", and didn't really satisfy the experience.

Are you seriously telling me that Shadow of the Colossus played anything like Heir? I don't remember a grip gauge in Heir. I don't remember the feeling of struggling to hang on to a massive being. I don't remember having to use various inventive strategies to take down the games three diverse Golems. I don't remember riding through scenic landscapes on my trusty steed, I don't remember poking the enemy with my shitty bow, I don't remember a sense of wonder as I flew through the sky on the back of a giant monster or the sense of dread seeing the protagonist slowly become corrupted. I don't remember a third fucking dimension in Heir.

I mean, for a flash platformer it's amazingly fluid. But it's a dime a dozen platformer and compared to SotC it fucking sucks. Balls.

Not to mention that one a 2D sidescrolling traditional platformer and another is 3D real platformer. That's like saying that Super Mario Brothers plays like Sands of Time.

I'm saying this plays like a 2D version of SotC. And my original complaint was that the music was really annoying, so why are we talking about this?

It really doesn't, but you were saying that the music is annoying because it doesn't have the same mood when the games don't have the same mood.

This is a free game made by one guy. You get what you payed for.

Did you miss this?

Heir is truly stellar. It goes so above and beyond what I expect from Flash games.

Mentlegen is whining about how Heir's music isn't the same as an entirely different game. Why not whine that the music in Final Fantasy isn't more like the music in Sonic the Hedgehog while he's at it?

i agree with Ballad here, i got bored after the second level of jump jump climb run jump jump climb run
