Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

A few days ago, I managed to RNG Heatran and Azelf without much trouble. Today, I decided to try out sweet scenting wild Pokemon and RNGing for shininess. However, after a few tries, something was clearly going wrong.

I use Pikatimer to time when to SR and press continue. This worked well with the two legends, occasionally being off by a second because I didn't react quick enough or pressed A too early. But right now, with all but one of the tries, I've been constantly two seconds off the time I need to get and far off my delay. While the delay is more than likely my own fault, what's going on with the time? Pikatimer's timers total to 59 seconds, which is what I need, but after checking my flips, I got 57 seconds everytime except for once. I'm doing the exact same thing I did a few days ago, so I doubt timing pressing Start on Pikatimer and A on my DS is the issue (and even if I was off, I highly doubt I'd be two seconds off in pressing them both). I don't get what I'm doing wrong. Help?

Was your anti-virus or any other software updating while you were using pika timer?

Nope.

Well, here's the thing I've seen though. My DS seems to take it's sweet time switching the seconds hand to 0, while Pikatimer seems to start immediately. This wasn't an issue before (as noted above with my lack of trouble with the legendaries), so I don't know why it is suddenly one. I'm trying to compensate for that by clicking start on Pikatimer slightly later than usual, and I'm now getting 58 and 00 seconds now, but no 59.

Are you using am original cartridge game with/without AR codes, an r4 or something similar?

By the way, the DS doesn't change the seconds, just hours and minutes.

DS Lite, original cartridge, no R4 or AR.

Also, I'm looking at the clock on my DS Lite right now, and there is a seconds hand. Changing the time resets that hand to 0 (the beginning of the minute), but it takes time (about 1 second, I'd say) to do so.

However, if it's of any significance, I had a pokemon edited and traded into the game for the purpose of weakening and making it easier to catch any RNG'd shiny.

No, it doesn't. All you have to do is input the now hour and minute and the DS will automatically pot the seconds to zero.

Say you want time 12:24:58
Pikatimer should have the proper information in it:
The delay you want, the calibrated delay (i don't really used that), the calibrated seconds (usually 14 to everybody) and the wanted seconds: 58

You put 12 hours 24 minutes and when you press A at the same time you start pikatimer. the DS will automatically set the clock to 12:24:00 just turn you ds on again and then you just wait for pikatimer and press A when it beeps

Yes, that's what I'm saying.

I need 2:54:59. Calibrated is what I generally have, delay I need is filled, calibrated seconds is 14, wanted seconds is 59. I press Create Timer, the total of the two is 59. That's good.

I go to my DS. I set my time to 2:54, but I haven't pressed A yet. I place my finger above A, and another on my mouse, where the cursor is above Pikatimer's Start. I press both at the same time. This changes the time to 2:54:00, BUT I notice that the seconds hand doesn't go to 00 instantly. The time itself doesn't show seconds, so I have to rely on the clock for seconds. So either the clock is out of sync with the time, or something's gone wrong, because as I said, when I've pressed both simultaneously today, I've gotten 57 seconds instead of 59 nearly all the time.

With pikatimer and the DS clock does NOT need to be synched. As you update pikatimer with your results and if your wanted seconds are 59 and your time is 2:54:59, then you set your clock to 2:53. Also just roll with it! Dont worry about little things just keep going till you hit a problem and your probably not going to hit your time and delay on the first, second or even 20th try! So just keep going. Also, these guides REALLY helped me and with out them, I wouldnt even know where to start. Make sure to thank Riski. Also the guides are toward the bottom because its her trade thread as well.

Well, I generally only update Pikatimer when I'm on the correct second with a delay that's near what I need (because needing a delay of 657 and then updating it with a delay of 719 because of a mistake wouldn't really help, IMO). However, I'll take a look at those guides. Still don't know what's going on with the time though.

Well, it was never an issue for me. How about instead of pressing start with the mouse you use the space bar?

I'll give that a try too. So far, I've been alternating between my mouse and the thing under my laptop's touchpad to start it to see if there's any difference in reaction time.

Your seconds are off because your supposed to go 1 minute and number of wanted seconds. I.E. your wanted time is 2:54:59. So you set your DS clock to 2:53 then press A on your DS clock and click start at the same time. Then only update pikatimer when your kinda close. Like for example: your target delay is 645. You then hit 647, DO NOT UPDATE PIKATIMER because you are too close and if you update, then you have to press A at the EXACT same time as you did the last time so if you keep updating you will pretty much NEVER hit your time! But say you hit 699, then you update pikatimer and try again and if your pretty close, just dont update. Just keep trying, you will get it! I promise!

I remember seeing that on another page here, but my Pikatimer currently says "Minutes before target: 0". Therefore, I should put my time to 2:54, because Pikatimer currently has a timer equal to 59 seconds. If I set my time to 2:53, the timer would run out at 2:53:59, wouldn't it? That'd leave me 1 minute before my target wouldn't it?

Are you hitting your time? No. Just try it. Also a wanted seconds of 59 is really stupid. You should pick either what you calibrated for or 55 if its a big delay as it makes the seconds less.

Alright, alright. I'll give it a try. :)

Now then, just a few more questions

1. Sweet Scent on Grass is 2 monster frames. I have 0 roamers. The shiny is on frame 22. I need to flip to "caught/defeated" journal pages 5 times then use Sweet Scent right?

2. So I can get Shinies and good IV pokemon with RNG. How does one go for a shiny pokemon that has great IVs? Do I need to search through the RNG Reporter and a high delay range, or is it mostly based on luck depending on whether or not your ID/SID combo just happens to give you the possibility of doing so?

depends solely on your SID an i dont RNG in DPPt

If sweet scenting on grass = 2 frames and each journal flip = 2frame advancements then
22-2=20. 20/2 = 10journal flips needed to a page of caught/defeated.

Shiny with good IVs can be done by everyone via egg breeding. Catching wise, you need certain ID/SID combinations to make it work for you, but some people might be lucky and have good spreads :P

so I've been calibrating and so far I've got 14 seconds with a delay of 598 - 610

but while i was calibrating, i caught a lvl... awww never mind. I'll just post a pic of it.

can someone tell me what's going on here?

You must catch a level 50 or higher to calibrate. Also if your in HGSS then go to mt silver and rock climb then exit the cave and then put a level 50 pokemon in front of your party and use a repel then run around till you get a level 50 or higher

@Adm. Empoleon

It means that the stats you got could have happened at either of those times. However as you said you average seconds are 14 I would say the seed you hit is very likely the second one

Your delay was a little higher than usual that time, big deal. It just means that you reset a tiny bit early or entered the game a tiny bit late.

Does anyone have any methods of RNGing (DSi) that don't require soft-resetting? I think I've heard about starting from Pictochat or something?
I can RNG just fine, but I think my DS buttons are wearing out or something, because when I hold L, Start, Select, and press R to reset, nothing happens...This is really frustrating me, so if anyone has any input I would love to hear it. Thanks.

Go to ebay and buy some replacement buttons.... they only cost $1-2 and it worked a charm for my DS when the buttons had become unresponsive
