Sunny A-Team

Sunny A-Team [Uber]
I’ve never used a Sunny Day Team, but can definitely see the appeal. However, I understand basic team building and am hoping to build this into a successful team to tear apart most opponents in uber battles.

Deoxys-A @ Focus Sash
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 Atk / 4HP
Nature: Naïve (+Spe,-Spec Def)
· Stealth Rock
· Extreme Speed
· Superpower
· Mirror Coat
The Deoxys-A lead is unexpected, especially compared to its counterpart, Deoxys-S. However, Deoxys-A already has an incredible speed stat and is able to rip apart most leads after setting up stealth rocks. The EVs and nature boosts it’s speed stat and enforce its extreme Atk stat. Extreme Speed is used to outrun faster leads, and Mirror Coat takes care of most special sweepers. Superpower underlines the Atk stat and helps Deoxys-A to physically sweep.

Groudon @ Choice Band
Ability: Drought
Evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Nature: Adamant (+Atk,-Spec Atk)
· Dragon Claw
· Fire Punch
· Stone Edge
· Earthquake
Groudon’s Drought ability is self explanatory on a Sunny Day team, and th Choice Band boosts its bulging Atk Stat. The Evs and nature simply push the atk stat further, Which makes him a force to be reckoned with. Dragon Claw, Stone Edge, Fire Punch, and Earthquake allows him to cover virtually any type, and Sunny Day would practically be wasted without a fire type move of some kind.

Ho-Oh @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
Evs: 252 Atk / 40 Spe / 216 HP
Nature: Adamant (+Atk,-Spec Atk)
· Sacred Fire
· Roost
· Brave Bird
· Substitute
Ho-Oh’s EVs, Nature, and Life Orb boost an already superior Atk stat. This makes Sacred Fire a must have, especially with the sun. Substitute, with the base 154 Spec Def stat, allows Ho-Oh some breathing room to Roost and hopefully more time for predictions. Brave bird is helpful in case the weather is turned against Ho-Oh.

Jumpluff (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Chlorophyll
Evs: 252 Spe / 188 Def / 68 Spec Def
Nature: Timid (+Spe,-Atk)
· Leech Seed
· Sleep Powder
· Substitute
· SolarBeam
Jumpluff, with Chlorophyll and sun, is incredibly fast, which is only more apparent with the Nature and Ev speed boost. Its defensive Evs and leftovers give it time to use sleep powder and substitute. After using Leech Seed, Jumpluff simply has to stall out his opponent. However, with SolarBeam, which has base power of 120 and no charge time in sun, Jumpluff is able to drain his opponents quickly.

Shaymin-S @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
Evs: 252 Spe / 252 Spec Atk / 4 Spec Def
Nature: Modest
· Seed Flare
· Hidden Power (Ice)
· Earth Power
· Air Slash
Shaymin-S with Choice Scarf, Spec Atk Ev, and Modest nature all make it a powerful hitting opponent, especially with the STAB off of Seed Flare and Air Slash. The 252 Speed Ev also makes it quick enough to hit most opponents hard AND fast. Hidden Power Ice and Earthquake give Shaymin-S a well rounded moveset.

Mewtwo @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
Evs: 4 Atk / 252 Spe /252 Spec Atk
Nature: Hasty (+Spe,-Def)
· Aura Sphere
· Thunder
· Fire Blast
· Self Destruct
Mewtwo, with its already outstanding speed and Special Attack, can easily sweep with an Ev split for Speed and Special Attack and a Life Orb in hand. It’s Hasty nature also increases speed, while Aura Sphere does massive fighting damage, and Thunder and Fire Blast help with move set diversity. Self Destruct, although suicidal, is a crucial move, due to the massive amount of damage it easily hands out to opponents during a desperate situation.

Closing Comments:
To reiterate, I have never been particularly fond of Sunny Day Teams, but I find this particular team to have a lot of potential. If anyone has any suggestions for improvement, they would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading.

Ok, Mr. Rubiks. Just a few small things.

You might want something with Rapid Spin to take away apposing stealth rock, as that can seriously mess up Ho-oh and Jumpluff. Forretress would work very well for this, and he can do things like toxic spikes. And blow up.

Speaking of Jumpluff, you might think about replacing Solarbeam or substitute with encore, just to annoy anything and everything.

Skymin doesn't really need the Scarf, its fast enough. Maybe LO so you can switch moves and abuse that Serene Grace.

Looks great, and I can't wait to go against it sometime!

Your deoxys lead is horribly outdated and fails against the current uber leads. Try this set:

deoxys-a@focus sash
252spd/252SAtk/4Atk
Rash/hasty nature
-SR
-Shadow ball
-extremespeed
-grass knot

It will stop deo-s from getting 2 layers of hazards and will also still take down groudon and kyogre.

Go ice beam over thunder on mewtwo as it really needs to be able to handle dragons like latias/latios and rayquaza etc. You can replace aura sphere with thunder/GK if you want. Your team must have a dragon resist or else it gets run over by draco meteors every where. Since you have ho-oh, you need rapid spin support and toxic spikes support also helps. So I suggest a forretress over either jumpluff or skymin to balance the team out. Run leftovers with a 192 HP / 216 Atk / 24 Spd / 76 SDef EV spread as it is a must with substitute. Encore is far more useful than jumpluff as it can force the opponent to attack jumpluff while solarbeam can't do crap.

Calze is right in that you should really replace Thunder on Mewtwo with Ice Beam.

Thunder has the meddling accuracy, which is even worse in the Sun (50%?). Regardless, you could do with something to handle the Dragons.

Okay, you NEED a Forretress, single handedly because of Ho-Oh.

Forretress @ Leftovers
252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Sp.Def Careful
Spikes / TSpikes
Rapid Spin
Explosion / Stealth Rock (depending in weather you replace Deo-A or not)
Payback / Spikes / TSpikes

If I were you, I'd replace Deo/Jumpluff/Shaymin with this.

On Mewtwo, Replace Thunder with Ice Beam/Shadow Ball, as Shaymin-S already hits Kyogre and Manaphy.

so if/when Groudon goes down.. how do you get Sunny Day back up? Pray they might have a Groudon as well? Or not a Kyogre/Rayquaza?

I'd look into replacing Jumpluff for something a lot more.. effective. Forretress seems like the best idea.

Replace Deoxys-A with Forretress to help keep Stealth Rock off the field better.

Encore over Solarbeam on Jumpluff, it's way more useful in checking threats. Plus Solarbeam hardly does any damage, and you risk a Rayquaza coming in and owning you.

I would trade in either Ho-oh or Jumpluff for something else like Giratina-O (for spinblocking/stallbreaking) or Palkia (SpecsOgre check), 2 Sun abusers is very risky, especially in a palce with so much Rain.

Thanks for all the advice, you've been a great help. Along with small changes, I switched my Deoxys lead set to calze6's suggestion, and i have this moveset for forretress:

205.gif

Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
Evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Def
Nature: Careful (+Spec Def, -Spec Atk)
· Toxic Spikes
· Explosion
· Rapid Spin
· Payback
I just can't decide whether to switch forretress with Jumpluff or Shaymin. I know Jumpluff is good for annoying people, but is otherwise fairly useless and that Shaymin's serene grace is definitely a plus. But, in general, Shaymin is pretty weak anyway. So what do y'all think? Should I get rid of Jumpluff or Shaymin?
-Mr.Rubiks-

Glad to see more people getting into ubers!

Ok, so you desperately need a Kyogre check, so you will need to find a spot for either Palkia or Latias on the team; I would suggest the former because of its revenge killing prowess (Assuming you use the scarf set) as well as its lack of an ice weakness, considering you are sporting two 4X and a 2X weakness to ice already, you wouldn't want to stack another one on top. I recomend replacing Shaymin-S because both pokemon (Scarf Palkia and Scarf Shaymin-S) serve similar purposes.

Palkia @ Choice Scarf
Hasty 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Spacial Rend
Fire Blast
Thunder
Outrage

Next, I think you should ditch the Deoxys-A lead all together and just replace it with Forretress. I personaly am a huge fan of Deo-A leads, but it does not work well at all with this style of team. Also, with SR crammed on the moveset, Deo can't attain the coverage it needs to perform as an effective anti-lead.

Next, get solar beam the hell off of jumpluffs moveset! It only aggrivates your Kyogre weakness, and grants Rayquaza, Tyranitar, and Abomasnow a free kill should they switch in on its charge turn. The best options to replace it are Encore, HP Ice, and Protect. The first deters set up, the second allows you to damage Rayquaza and Garchomp (As well as Skymin in the sun), while the third let's you scout choice users and gain extra recovery from Leftovers and Leech Seed.

Hope this helped, good luck and have fun!
