Zoroark

Does anyone know how the move 'foul play' works?? According to serebii, the higher your opponent's attack the more power it does. With so many sweepers focusing on attack, this seems like a decent option to use. It would be interesting to do some damage comparisons.

Question?

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but has anyone tried using nasty plot crobat and zoroark?

Like, with team reveal. Because that seems awesome.

The main problem is SR (and to a lesser extent any other hazards). That, and NP crobat is fairly mediocre. SR will hit your disguised zoroark neutrally, making it clear that it isn't crobat. It will also be hurt by spikes and toxic spikes, further making it clear that it isn't crobat.

Zoroark should always be paired with things that are SR neutral at the very least.

The best way to use Zoroark is to attempt to imitate the Pokemon he is copying. I have seen a lot of idiots using Night Burst when Zoroark is still disguised. (I mean, how obvious could it be if you see crap like CHARIZARD USED NIGHT BURST!)

Not to mention Azelf gets neutrality from Stealth Rock. However it does get Spikes immunity, so if you see 'Azelf' getting hit by Spikes then something must be seriously wrong.

I also want to point out: with the team-showing thing, it can still be a guessing game. Is it Zoroark, or is it the real Poke? And if it's the real Poke, Zoroark can pull a nasty sucker punch (no, not the move) later in the match.

The most ideal Zoroark disguise should take neutrality from Stealth Rock(No Charizard/Doryuzu copies), be hit by Spikes(Azelf/Skarm is out) and Toxic Spikes(Honestly why would you even do so). Zoroark should also run a moveset that the original Pokemon can also run(NP Azelf as SharKing suggested was a good idea but Zoroark has no Spikes immunity).

Seriously. I found so many people screwing over with "CHARIZARD USED NIGHT BURST! SALAMENCE USED NIGHT BURST!" seriously...? I ended up sacking my current Pokemon just to shove Techniloom into their faces.

Spiritomb :0

You can further confuse the opponent in the way I (and others, I'll assume) wield Zoroark when it comes to team reveal. I always slap Zoroark on the last slot of my team, and change the order to what I think will be most effective against the opposing team. Bunch of Fighting types? Go as Rankurusu (Magic Guard messes the surprise up, but it works cause people don't want to take chances with their precious Roobushin). Lots of opposing Psychics or Steels? Come in as Heracross. When Zoroark is last on your team slot, your opponent has no way of predicting when you'll come in as - just make sure you don't forget to move him to a different slot, which I've done on occasion; Zoroark coming in as himself, while still threatening, isn't nearly as fun.

You can also purposely disguise something during the reveal as what Zoroark will appear to be, and switch that up. Zoroark is best for making your opponent's mind jelly before the battle even begins!

That's real nice, Reliking. Spiritomb's Ghost-typing discourages people from using super-effective Fighting-type moves. And it could run Dark Pulse for disguise; it only loses 5 points of power and the accuracy drop in exchange for accuracy and flinching. Unfortunately, the trollish speed would tell it all.

@Seth: Yeah, that totally looks like a nice strategy. It's gonna be fun foolin' with the foe. It completely fits the deceptive nature of its typing!

You know, it's not like you can't run measures to stop entry hazards. It's just like a sweeper weak to Stealth Rock or other hazards, you need to prepare accordingly. Xatu + Zoroark + Tentacruel have decent synergy, just as a quick example. Xatu prevents hazards, Tentacruel can be a quick switch to remove Toxic Spikes (letting you use something like CB Scizor in tandem). I don't know, people just think the only support this guy needs is Illusion targets but in reality he's just like any other Pokemon (barring Magic Guard).

What? You're just going, "Oh, if I use Zoroark to SURPRISE the opponent, they'll know it's a Zoroark, but if I make Zoroark do the exact same thing its disguise would do, they'll never know it's a Zoroark!" >_>

The heart of the Zoroark problem right here. XD

The entire Zoroark bluff usually lasts 1 turn only, 2 at the very best. You always want Zoroark to DO something, not just to basically be a carbon-copy of another Pokemon in your last team slot. When I was in a Double-Dragon craze, Zoro did perfectly disguising as Garchomp or Ononokusu (minus the Mold Breaker announcement when AxeFace comes in, but it didn't throw off as bad since Rivalry is kinda-sorta viable), using Swords Dance as they switched in something, and roasting Steels with Flamethrower or Sucker Punching their Scarfers. The idea is to use Zoro to clear the way for OTHER sweepers, not meld with something so perfectly in a disguise that you have 2 of the same thing.

I hope that makes sense. As I read over, it seemed odd in some places...

Here's what I'd do. It's rather risky, but it has a nice reward.

Place my most switch-worthy Poke in the last slot, and use it to disguise Zoroark. Let's say that's Gengar, since it has immunities to Fighting, Normal, and Ground, and a bit of a scare factor. If the foe gets done using Superpower from Choice Band Scizor, I switch in Zoroark disguised as Gengar (assuming no Spikes are on the field). The foe switches, giving me a free Nasty Plot.

Um yes. That's the gist of it. Considering how you need to even damage Zoroark directly to reveal that its a Zoroark, you can play some serious mind games with the opponent: is it a Spiritomb I'm facing? Should I DPunch it? etc etc.

Considering that not every Pokemon can learn every single move in the game(Smeargle doesn't learn Chatter, so shut up), its obvious something is wrong if you do something that the Pokemon that you are imitating can't do.

Actually I find this thing extremely annoying. For example:
X Pokemon switches in on Nattorei.
me: lol this thing gets murdered by gyro ball hahaha
X Pokemon used Flamethrower! Nattorei died!
me: FFUUUUUUUUUUUU

In essence, Zoroark can basically cause a KO every match if played right. I would use Shanderaa as a partner, because once its disguise is broken, it's basically Fighting-type fodder. Thus, switch in Shanderaa on the [INSERT FIGHTING MOVE HERE] and kill the Fighting-type. Even better, if the Fighting-type attack is choiced, you can set up to a +6.
