The Everything NHL Thread

I'm probably in the minority when I say I love the antics of the green men. The league tells them they can't touch the glass and handstands. So what do they do? They bring a cut out of themselves doing a handstand. Also honorable mention to Carrie Underwood in a Nucks jersey when Fisher was in the box.

the green men are amazing, but rooting hard for nashville at this point

also vin yeah its pretty old lol, but i love how many posts/views it has, lets new people know hockey is the most important sport on smogon HEh

also jeez that was back when my favourite player was gaborik yeesh luckily ive moved onto toews...

EDIT: also gaborik had 83 points that year and the wild won the division with 98 points so it wasnt a bad call at all :)

so im all kinds of new to this and all but

why are canadians using a joke from its always sunny in philadelphia???

am i the only one confused or??????

ps nashville rules vancouver drools

I'm not sure about some of these comparisons.

First, AHL attendance doesn't mean much. For years, neither Toronto nor Montreal (both obviously large hockey markets) could sustain Junior teams because people weren't interested in a sub NHL product... and I'd buy tickets to a Junior game much before I'd buy tickets to an AHL game. Winnipeg tasted the NHL, it is likely not interested in anything less. I know I wouldn't be. Besides.. 10k for an AHL game doesn't seem that bad at all to me.

15000 tickets sold in Winnipeg is probably going to get them more money than 15000 tickets sold somewhere where tickets are nearly given away. Some teams do use very desperate tactics to boost their attendance - I remember the Kings earlier this decade promising the playoffs or money back for season ticket holders.

15k seems right for Winnipeg and aren't there plans to enlarge the MTS Arena anyway?

Looking at the AHL statistics for the regular season and playoffs, Manitoba is second and third respectively. However, the Marlies do have below average attendance at about 4700 people per game in the regular season.

Maybe we can support an NHL team. Looking at the Thrashers prices, they are much higher than what I paid but not terrible. The small arena still scares me.

I don't know of any plans to enlarge the arena itself. According to Wikipedia they are expanding the press boxes, and I believe I read somewhere that the arena can be expanded, but I haven't heard anything definite.

I'm going to buy tickets either way, whether it's Moose or "Jets" (I have a joke with my friends that the team is going to be called the Winnipeg Roughriders). We'll see what happens, as it appears that whether we get the Thrashers or the Coyotes, we will get a team one way or another.

I typically have a lot of respect for the Sharks because I enjoy the way they play, to the point I watch them more than anyone but Detroit because I find them to be the most interesting team that has the late starts on home games in the regular season, but after Thronton's ultra classy cheap shot on an injured area of an injured player immediately prior to a dive that made Sidney Crosby and Henrik Sedin complain that Thornton was acting like a soccer player has turned me against them... obviously I'm rooting Wings hard as a hometown fan, but I'll be in the Canucks/Predators corner next round for sure. Don't want to see him lifting the cup. Which is a pity because I dislike rooting against Boyle and Couture.

Though with Boston and Tampa in the East, I don't think I need to worry.

As much as I wish that this serious was a foregone conclusion, nothing scares the fuck out of me like a Wings team that hasn't already been dead and buried. I for one don't think this series is over until the 3rd period horn goes off with a Sharks lead.

Pretty sure there's a shin guard in that area. All I know is that I see hockey players block slap shots in that area and look less bothered than Thornton attempted to appear after that one handed stick whack.

not sure why people are calling that play a dive by Thornton, it looked pretty serious to me

hahahahaha, give that man an Oscar

he may have fooled you, and at full speed he made it look pretty good, but he sure as shit didn't fool the ref

I'm rooting for the 'nucks to win the series, but i want the preds to push the series to seven games. There's a little bit of history for teams making the conference finals by winning two straight seven game series, something that if the Wings can somehow pull off the impossible could take advantage of.

yeah I know, I was just making a joke about the gif

edit: god dammit why do all my gifs always die
edit2: fix

talk about hyperbole I mean Henrik hasn't been a huge factor in a while but don't you think that's kind of overkill?

Because the fact that we haven't been to the WCF since 1994 isn't a cause for celebration? Making an issue out of a non-issue.

Where's the hyperbole? I was 6 in 1994. That's the last time we made round 3. We're known for blowing it by the end of round 2. Christ, can't even make a joke+celebration post anymore.

We should do what we do on another forum I'm on and have an off-season thread so you can talk to yourself and leave those of us with teams that didn't blow it to discuss without swatting gnats =)

Is that dickish enough for you to justify your petty grudge ;D

Ohhhh I thought you were really happy that henrick started doing his job for once in these playoffs

it must be nice to be successful for the second time in 30 years, I know it felt good to be a flames fan in 1989 and 2004
