Protect IP Bill is WORSE than Bill S.978 and being RUSHED

oh noes guys hurry we must sign an online petition without reading it or even having a synopsis of it presented to us because otherwise congress will eat our babies or not eat our babies depending on which of the two options you personally find less preferable

Yeah, if you want us to sign it at least tell us what the hell it does. Youtube videos don't count, you're going to have to use actual text here.

Next time try google, and if you're too lazy to read it, then you'll have to deal with biased synopsis, since everything is seen through some bias.

Also, I would care much more about this if the guy in the video hasn't such a condescending asshole who says shit like "Our own government is keeping this away from us, okay" Just that condescending tone, can we please have someone else as a spokesperson for this

Chickity Check It.

The IP lobby - "Hey, our industry is suffering because of piracy its costing jobs and we're going down the drain! We must pass a tighter law to crack down on copyright infringers."

Report compiled showing that the IP industry is doing better than almost every other industry in almost every regard.

The IP Lobby - "This report shows we must pass a tighter law to crack down on copyright infringers or we can't maintain our excellent position!"

I don't see how anti-piracy laws or the implementation of them are helping the economy, If anything it's only making the situation much worse than it already is. Sure the guy in the YouTube video was bias but I agree with just about everything he said.

If you don't agree then give me a legitimate reason why...

FIX MY PC FIRST BILL YOU SON OF A BITCH

Are we yelling at

or

?

It seems like the OP is overreacting to this. I personally think that this anti-piracy bill isn't gonna do much but waste the government's time actually enforcing it.

This is another one of those things like the last OMG GAME BILL that people took way out of proportion and have no actual idea of how government or bills work. Don't lose sleep over this. Ignorance at its finest.

so, basically, i should go ahead and torrent every program i've ever wanted ever for free while i still can?

at first I didn't give a fuck until I actually watched the video.

DSP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Real talk, this bill is a pretty big deal...

As a DJ, if it wasnt for Torrents i wouldn't have been able to get myself started. So in conclusion, fuck this bill.

Edit: I may be Australian but we tend to copy you guys way too much so...

too lazy to watch the video; only care half-heartedly

if it denies free speech, it will be struck out against as unconstitutional by the supreme court, no?

Listening to the video and sort of glancing at the information provided, yeah this bill seems pretty serious. Though, I actually agree that this bill is pretty ironic to how America has criticized China of censorship, and it is POSSIBLE with this bill to have it actually done.

I'm sorry that you think the government is fucking awesome and they cannot do wrong, kingofkongs, but after what I saw happen in Michigan, I think having any faith in our government is pretty naive of the situation at hand.

If you want people to petition the bill, at least give them the right link...

Also, I'm really growing to hate America (I live there btw just in case you were about to flame me or somethign). I mean, the government "loves" freedom, but they demonize people against them to the point where change becomes almost impossible since people follow the government so blindly due to its saintly nature that they pretty much take their word as god.

I take it the reason why the U.S. Government demonizes their own people against their rights as an American citizen is because they have taken the U.S. Constitution for granted? Wow, and to think they would have enough common sense to understand that this bill is an illegal violation of the 1st Amendment.

Everytime they try to pass a bill like Protect IP through the House and the Senate they have to make the wordings on the bill so vague to the point that they think we're stupid enough to not understand just how big of a threat it is to some of our free rights. It astounds me how politicians in Washington could be this stupid...

Congressional approval is about the lowest it's been in a century, presidential approval is mixed, and people do not regard our government as saintly anymore.

And we're in an economic downturn.

And two oppositely polarized movements (Tea Party and Occupy movement) have risen to channel general frustration about government on both the right and the left.

Demonization isn't the problem, apathy is.

(sorry, just had to comment...)

Sorry to bump this but it's important. I found some more info regarding this bill:

Watch this video please:

So what can you do?

If you’re a citizen of the United States, call your local representatives. Calling and letter writing will always work better than email. If you don’t know their number , use this site:

http://www.contactingthecongress.org/

Read up on the law so you can be informed of what is going on:

Also, on a closing note, please don’t think that these bills have no chance of passing, because they do. They have some powerful people backing it, and they’re trying to push it through as quickly as possible. Even if these bills are only used to target 'rogue' foreign sites as it states, it will establish a precedent for future bills. If we don't stop these bills now, how can we ever hope to stop them in the future?

Would you rather possibly overreact now, or have to worry about the possibility of these laws passing and what it could do to many of your favorite sites down the line?
