It's because it learns Chatter, which lets you make a custom sound when it is used. They banned it because they didn't want people recording anything inappropriate and going online with it.
I thought as much. Amazing how trollfreak actually trolled the poketrolls ._.

I wonder if there's more to it than that. Not that too many people miss Chatot, but why not just ban Chatter like Dark Void and Sky Drop were?

Does anyone know where I can look at last year's nationals final standings, like a pic or file or something? I kinda wana know how I did but no one I know has any info on it. I was 3-4 so it most likely have to be a full picture of both pages.

Just a quick one;

How much speed would it require for Medicham to outspeed Excadrill, when;

Medicham [Adamant - Under Tailwind] Vs. Excadrill [Adamant - Under Sand Storm with Sand Rush]

Medicham [Jolly - Under Tailwind] Vs. Excadrill [Adamant - Under Sand Storm with Sand Rush]

If it is possible for Medicham to even outspeed Excadrill under Sand Storm/If Excadrill isn't banned from VGC (Didn't see him on the ban list)

VGC ban list is pretty much just version mascots + event legends, TPCI doesn't really care about Smogon's tiers.

Adamant Excadrill hits 140 Speed max, which Medicham can only outspeed with Jolly and at least 228 EVs.

It really depends if Excadrill is running 252 Speed or not. Assuming it is, Adamant Medicham cannot outrun it, and Jolly Medicham will need at least 228 Speed EVs to outrun it.

Hey guys, I'm planning to attend the Toronto regionals on April 15th. This will be my first VGC and I have some questions. Basically, my only copy of BW is a Japanese copy of Black, and I don't have an English account for anything (only Japanese ones) but the rules say that I must have a North American copy of BW. I can borrow a friend's North American copy of White and put my team there temporarily for the tournament. Can I do this or would there be problems? Thanks.

You can. But to do that you have to trade both of your Pokemon throught the GTS, you can't do it wireless or IR.

Question about Hitmontop:

My Hitmontop is an Intimidate support Hitmontop.
237.png

~Intimidate
Adamant
252 HP / 252 Atk
- Fake Out
- Close Combat
- Sucker Punch
- Wide Guard

Now what item would be most appropriate?
44.png
Coba berry (to weaken super effective flying type attacks in hopes of surviving Acrobatics from Scizor, Tornadus, Gliscor, etc.),
Bag_Fighting_Gem_Sprite.png
Fighting Gem (to temporarily boost CC making it strong),
Bag_Dark_Gem_Sprite.png
Dark Gem (To temporarily boost the power of Sucker Punch, giving it a chance to OHKO Latios),
45.png
or the rogue Payapa berry (to let it survive Psyshock from the likes of Latios, Reuniclus and Starmie)

Thanks :D

Fighting Gem.

Chances are, you won't be able to do anything to an Acrobatics user even if you survive.
Dark Gem is too situational.
Papaya Berry... Ehh...

I don't think it's that simple. Pick what fits your team, eg if you have difficulty KOing things with CC, fighting gem. Theres no need for a boosted sucker punch if you already have good Psychic/Ghost coverage in it's team mates. Think what extra your Hitmontop needs, and build from there.

NEW UPDATED QUESTION:

For those who didn't see the old post :

Alright. So what I'm getting is that Coba and Payapa are a no-go.

darkgem.png
Dark Gem: My psychic and ghost coverage isn't that great at all. Sucker Punch could really come in handy.

fightinggem.png
Fighting Gem: What are some examples of pokemon that Hitmontop would have difficulty KO'ing without the Fighting Gem?

With Fight Gem, Hitmontop kills Chople stuff.
And hits miscellaneous stuff like Ludicolo or Rotom.

I'm currently running Fighting Gem. Dark Gem Sucker Punch isn't a guaranteed OHKO on Latios (you can Fake Out for extra damage, but it could always Protect), and common ghost-types like Chandelure and Gengar are commonly Sashed in my experience, so they're 2HKOed by Sucker Punch either way. And if you're looking for psychic and ghost coverage, there are definitely better options than Hitmontop. Meanwhile, Fighting Gem OHKOs Chople Tyranitar, as stated above, and just gives Top some extra juice. But that's just my opinion, you really should test for yourself.

I also have a question: Anyone have any general tips for counterpicking Goodstuffs or other mixed teams? Most of the time, I don't have problems with Team Preview. I know that Fake Out/Follow Me users are normally leads, I can spot setups such as Tailwind lead combos and Terracott, and I have solid plans against weather or speed-based teams (Tailwind, Trick Room). However, when I face teams that don't seem to have a theme, I sometimes get overwhelmed and have problems picking the "right" leads.

I read the Team Preview WIP guide, but that mostly covers the different types of teams and somewhat common setups, which I already know about. Any help? I'm running Goodstuffs myself, if that helps.

I've got a question: Do people think they are on route to the number 1 spot if they DC before every loss? Seriously I have more than double the DC wins than legit wins. I don't get what people think they are avoiding if they DS instead of simply lose.

I guess if anything this tournament is just great first hand practice for april.

Hey how does the timer work at the actual events? Will the timer display on my screen and warn me when I'm about to run out of time on a move? Does it also show the 15:00 minute cap? If not, are stop watches allowed?

On the team preview there is a timer for selecting your 4 Pokemon. If it runs out, you automatically send out the first four Pokemon listed in your team in order (so the leads are the first 2). There is a move time and a match timer. The move timer turns red at the 15 second mark. I can't remember when the match timer turns red.

I would start with something really standard (latios/Metagross/Rotom-W/Tyranitar/Garchomp/Cresselia/Hitmontop/Zapdos/Chandelure) and proceed to make changes as you go along to fit your play style. That's the easiest way, in my opinion, considering this is such a huge meta.

If you haven't played a lot of doubles before, focus on learning type synergy. Offensive combos like Rotom-H/Mamosine(or Garchomp) or defensive combos like Rotom-W and Metagross or really defensive combos like Metagross/Cresselia are good places to start the team. Spread moves should be looked at, and make sure you don't use many innacurate moves, as a miss is hard to make up in the 5-12 turn games you have in vgc.

Otherwise, good luck! Building a team in this meta can be lots of fun if you find a team you like, just because so many people use entirely standard teams they're easy to counter by playing properly.

I have a general formula that I usually use for making teams, though it's certainly not the only way to do it.

1. Pick your team style.
2. Pick the core Pokémon for your style (Politoed for rain, Tailwinder for Tailwind, your favorite goodstuff-friendly Pokémon for goodstuff, etc.)
3. Pick a good partner for the first Pokémon - either something that can take advantage of the effect it brings or something that has good offensive and defensive synergy.
4. Build the rest of your team around supporting the core pair. More sweepers, counter-setup, Pokémon to hurt the stuff the rest of your team can't hurt, etc.
5. Test it, find out what doesn't work, and fix it as necessary.
