Theorymon Discussion and Viability Ranking

I think its safe to say that 3 abilities screw more mons than benefit them. Lots of mons have 1 or 2 abilities that suck. At least with 2 abilities limit u get to pick your poison. Someone should turn this into a othermetagame...

Moving this to Other Metagames was already discussed. We're not integrating every single idea into one metagame, we're theorymonning some Pokemon move/Ability changes together but most are being discussed in a vacuum.

Sorry if i wasn't clear enough. What i meant was that someone should create a 2ability metagame where every mon gets 2 abilities(if they have 2 abilities). I didn't mean moving this thread to othermetagame thread.

It's been tried, we can't implement that on PS!

Maractus: Storm Drain + Chlorophyll
I think this could become an EXCELLENT sun sweeper as it can wall stuff in rain as well as sweep in sun.

Porygon2: Trace + Download
An excellent wall, this allows it good attacking prowess as well

Heracross: Guts + Moxie
Easily one of my FAVORITES. Status absorber + moxie cleaner.

Scizor: Technician + Swarm
Perhaps OP: swarm + technician bug bite is VERY powerful.

What if GameFreak stopped trolling cool Pokemon and gave Rhyperior Head Smash?

Goodbye everything!

Rhyperior has the ability Reckless. Rhyperior is a Rock-type. It has a giant fucking head, and it weighs a ton. It doesn't get Head Smash, but an immobile piece of coral gets it?? Anyways, this thing would still be a bit hard to use in OU because it's weak to like...everything. But at the same time, it's an Aggron on steroids, and on a Trick Room team it would potentially net 4-5 kills until the TR wears off. Recoil sucks, but with Max HP investment, Rhyperior can use Head Smash at least 3-4 times, especially when used on offensive Pokemon. I don't think I need to post any calcs of its other moves, because 99% of the time it will just spam Head Smash, with the rare occasion it will use Ice Punch for Hippo or Impish Landorus-T (Standard Landy-T has a chance of being OHKOed LOL) This thing could potentially break Trick Room lol, let alone UU. I would be interested in using this thing on an offensive sand team with a buddy of mine. I love that it pretty much guarantees you a KO every time it comes in. GUARANTEES.

Here's the set it would probably run:

Rhyperior @ Choice Band
Trait: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Head Smash
- Ice Punch
- Earthquake
- Aqua Tail / Rock Blast

EDIT: Wow didn't even realize this thing could learn Aqua Tail. Why would it when it if it can't even learn Head Smash? Haha thanks alexwolf. Ice Punch is still nice for very bulky variants of Landorus-T, as it hits it harder than anything else. It could easily afford to run both though. EQ will actually hardly ever find much use on it anyway, seeing as Head Smash can 2HKO Ferrothorn just as easily as EQ. Only thing I can really think of is Jirachi and the rare as hell Cobalion.

Actually, Aqua Tail would be the best non STAB move for Rhyperior, as it hits Hippowdon for much more damage than Ice Punch (which has the same BP as EQ against Hippo) and can actually 2HKO physically defensive variants, unlike Ice Punch. Also, EQ is obviously useful to maim Steel-types that resist Head Smash and OHKO them before they have a chance to strike back, as well as Garchomp, while Rock Blast could be a fine option on the last slot to deal with Substitute users.

Good find Gary, this is one of the moves that was made for such a Pokemon yet he doesn't get it, similarly to Slack Off on Snorlax.

Very sweet find Gary! I didn't even realize rhyperior got reckless. Head Smash rock head Eviolite rhydon could be potentially brutal too (especially in the lower tiers). I think the whole family getting Head Smash would shake thing up a bit overall. It would potentially be even cooler if it could abuse some other recoil moves like Wild Drive and Double Edge. Wild Drive especially makes sense-- Imean, it's an angry rhino.

what if psychic was immune to dragon attacks?
While fairy rocks, if this change had been made in gen5 there would have been no need for fairies. Since psychic is so close to fairy, its a plausible change. Just take gen5 chart & add this tweak. So who wins?
Lati@s would be gods among pokemen: resisting water, fire, fighting& being immune to dragon+ground.
Starmie kills dragons-Slowbro walls them.
Celebii & Jirachi get a cool immunity.
Gothetille turns dragons into its bitches
Thoughts?

IMO, Ryhperior would hit pretty damn hard, but it would struggle against HO even more than Kyube, considering it's slow as molasses. As an RP sweeper, it would not appreciate the massive recoil. Not to mention its weakness to priority- yes it has insane bulk and resists Stealth Rock, but when your main move is doing close to 50% to your health, the only thing you'll be surviving are Rapid Spins. These are some major flaws that would make Rypherior D or Low C. It could work with Rachi, with it Wishing, U turning, and Healing Rypherior. It's kinda meh. But stall is in huge trouble. Fucking HUGE TROUBLE. What can switch in on it? nothing. It will be like Darmanitan and Victini.

I think Rhyperior would be a perfect fit on baton pass teams as with its bulk as well as the speed boosts passed(read Ninjask) Rhyperior would easily be able to 6-0 a team

You have a point. Another problem is Head Smash's shaky accuracy :(

On another note, Heracross is a nightmare in the previous 3-ability theorymon:
Guts, Moxie AND Swarm
Kinda OP, don't you think?

More shit regarding the double ability thing, something I've been thinking of myself:

- Cincinno would actually become viable in OU with Technician + Skill Link-boosted Tail Slap. It wouldn't have the sheer wallbreaking force of the previously theorymonned Head Smash Rhyperior, but base 115 speed is amazing in OU, forcing a speed tie with Starmie and only being outsped by Alakazam and Jolteon. Being killed by common priority sucks of course, and Ferrothorn can counter it with ease, but still, it'd be scary.
- Magnezone would become interesting with Magnet Pull + Analytic. Outsude of trapping steels he could also come in on an Outrage or something and wreck shit, idk.
- Specs Reuniclus would become a thing. Magic Guard + Regenerator just SCREAMS hit-and-run. The ability to take some hits while hitting stupidly hard before recovering by switching out sounds really scary.
- Scrafty has three potent abilities: Shed Skin allows him to set up on walls that attempt to status him, Moxie allows him to get extra attack boosts along the way (really dangerous in tandem with Dragon Dance) and Intimidate allows him to use physical attackers as setup fodder. Combine any of these 2 and you have some potent shit (although Moxie + Intimidate would gain some competition from Gyarados and Salamence)
- Sun sweepers might profit from such a thing. Tangrowth would become an amazing Life Orb abuser under sun with Chlorophyll to boost its speed to great levels and Regenartor to keep itself healthy. Lilligant could use Chlorophyll + Own Tempo to spam Petal Dance without drawbacks aside from being locked in (and specs Petal Dance will hurt, trust me)

p. good shit.

Specs Reuniclus would be meh. I would still prefer Life
Orb as being locked into Physic is not a great thing in this meta. Rachi, Tar, Latias, Latios, Scizor, ferrothorn, Skarmory, Forretress, etc. I would use Regenerator as a Bulky TR setter that can come in almost infintely.

I know I probably shouldn't be mixing this up with X and Y, but with Steel losing some of its resistances, Levitate+Heatproof Bronzong would now be weak to Dark and Ghost.
