I'm a grown man
well that's uh impressive and all, but you're just one person and much of the demographic will not (surprise surprise) be grown

or, you know

won't actually let such a minor addition affect them negatively in any way because they'll be too busy playing the game yeah

a goddamn sticker collection is and will continue to be a huge turnoff to 99% of men and women over the age of 5.
if you're suggesting that this game will not sell as well for adding a feature then I'd have to say you're not setting a very good example for the rest of the community you grown man you!!!

nobody in their right mind will not buy a game because of an addition. If Barbie was a playable character, I would still buy this game, and so would most people despite the fact that that is a much, much more extreme example.

Now, I noticed you promptly jumped to the conclusion that I didn't like the trophies from SSBM... well, I've never even owned the game, but if I did I would enjoy collecting them. They're trophies, and trophies are a worthwhile prize for a job well done. I never even mentioned trophies, so try reading before you rant.
actually I assumed the opposite, but the sarcasm in my post kind of mucked with the point, being that the stickers in SSBB are pretty much, as far as I can tell, just the trophies in SSBM, but two-dimensional. Amusingly enough I was correct in my assumption and you do in fact think that trophies are a good addition but stickers aren't, when you basically made that choice based completely on 1) the name and 2) the number of dimensions

Well DM, i certainly think a sticker album is very dumb, well, some adult people still enjoy it not making them nerds-retards or automatically non-social beings.I don't believe on generalizations,is just my point.

Of course the trophy system was cooler, very similar, but the trophies were at least 3-D!, i liked to collect them (was very easy since they popped on your way on the game). I don't know about the stickers, seems pointless...

Apparently, not as much as your post.

Now listen to me you fuckrod, I haven't had a sticker collection since I was 3 years old, and I sure as shit don't want to start another one now, not even in a virtual world. I'm a grown man, I don't need this preschool nonsense. I don't give a damn that it's from Nintendo, a goddamn sticker collection is and will continue to be a huge turnoff to 99% of men and women over the age of 5.

oh no not fucking stickers. jesus i can't believe they put stickers into this game it will completely ruin it because that's all i'll be able to do. collect stickers. instead of ignoring them and playing the damn game.

Seriously though, I don't get how they ruin the game because it's just another stupid add on that you can either get into, or just leave the fuck alone. No one is forcing you to collect stickers, calm the fuck down.

I'll give you that, I will still play the game.

No! I'm not! Stop putting words in my mouth.

Oh did I? You're right man, I dislike stickers because they're flat. It has nothing to do with the fact that they're for preschoolers.

God, this is exactly why I hate this thread. Let me have my opinion, and you can keep yours. Me complaining about the stickers will not affect your enjoyment of the game, OR mine, so just shut the fuck up about it.

well then what the hell was that statement supposed to accomplish? 99% of men and women over the age of 5 will be turned off from the game but will still play the game? so?

no, you see

this is a video game

and in a video game, there is essentially no discernible difference between a sticker and a trophy other than 1) the name and 2) the number of dimensions

me complaining about your complaining will not affect your enjoyment of the game or mine etc

also, if you hate this thread so much, why the hell do you keep coming in here and complaining about it? Jesus.

Siphai summed it up pretty well. Just ignore the stickers. :\

Personally, I was a little disappointed by the update since I took it as meaning that they were replacing trophies. It all depends on how you take that trophy statement...it could go either way.

The reason I prefer trophies is simply because of the information that each trophy contained. I could seriously spend an hour just flipping through the trophies and reading about the descriptions...but then again that's just me.

lol rock hawk assist trophy would be awesome

I don't think the stickers will replace the trophies. Trophies were a huge part of SSBM, and I feel they are almost guaranteed to return. Also, the quote about the stickers being easier to find than trophies also gives me some hope.

The stickers look stupid.... I pity whoever is excited by stickers. Honestly, I didn't even expect any posts in this thread today :/...

Of course I don't think they will make the game worse though.... they're just stupid.

Edit: DM, no one is making you read this thread...

Edit again: Umm... zerowing... no one knows anything about the stickers... except that they look stupid. :p

people just generally need to calm down in this thread...

Right there you are wrong. Trophies added so much more than that. They brought insight to and introduced older games to the younger generation. Like I said before, who in the hell remembers Kid Icarus if not for the trophy in Melee. I would even go to say that Pit would not be in Brawl if not for the exposure he gained in in Melee. Every trophy provided a back story and the game the trophy was originally in. Stickers provide a 2-D image, thats it.

With the 290 (293 in Japan) trophies available to be collected, it became bragging rights when you got difficult to obtain trophies. Things like the Giga Bowser, Lon Lon Milk, and Diskun were very difficult to get, but when you did you had major bragging rights. I remember staying up all night for 3 days straight trying for the Giga Bowser trophy, something no one else I knew did. When Melee came out, the trophies were a BIG deal.

Sakurai said himself "Stickers are easier to get a hold of than trophies. Just play the game and you’ll start to earn them as rewards." I don't see any sort of bragging rights or anything of that nature for collecting a Kirby sticker, if you just get them by playing. Trophies are earned, but apparently stickers are given.

Don't ever compare stickers to trophies again.

I agree with DM. I don't think the game will be less of a game, but i do want to know why they spent time on stickers when they could've used that production to either work on something different, or just cut it.

It just seems like mindless clutter. Sure, this game's supposed to be for all ages, but take a look at how complex Melee is, and ask yourself what 5 year-olds will play it.

I just think they're buying time. They want to space out the shit like Subspace Emissary and new characters with things like Stickers, Pre-existing characters' B moves, and items like the Banana Peel, and the Smoke Bomb.

I think we should just accept that this is a once-a-day thing, and as fun as it is to analyze and be kids about it all, that it shouldn't ruin our days when something like this comes out, and we should just say "oh well. better luck tomorrow."

EDIT: Fuck yeah Zerowing. Trophies require you to do ridiculous feats, and god knows it took me forever to attain the mew trophy(beat Classic, Adventure, and All-Star on VH.), and even more to rack up enough games to get the 'play X number of games' trophies. I think we'll get stickers by beating a level in Subspace, or winning an optional mode, sort of like how in All-Star you'd get a gimme trophy every couple of rounds.

And i took great pride in unlocking the Meowth-with-guitar trophy.

honestly I don't think they spent that much time on something as mundane as stickers. Seriously it's not a hard thing to implement in any game, and I'm sure each one took like 5-10 minutes tops. The time they spent on stickers, I'm almost positive, wouldn't really matter if they put it anywhere else.

Eh to me, it almost hinted as that they will be there as well as trophies. Seems trophies will for important stuff like X amount of score on Y mini game, or completing the main game with Z, whereas stickers are for more fun things, like USING CHARACTER A for the first time, or GETTING THE DEVIL as an assist.

Just speculation though ~_~

I'd think only the rarest stickers would have some sort of task to complete...it looks like there will be a LOT of stickers...like 500+?

Hmm, I wonder what could be considered worse than a sticker update for some people?

It just seems you'll just pick them up randomly; I doubt any of them would be super rare. Even if they are rare, I wouldn't be going out of my way in order to get them.

^_^ I'm sure my little cousin's who are about 4 and 5 will love this though.

EDIT:

lol Tmnt Boy that's all we need..

Stickers are fine. About as exciting as trophies, really, just an element of collectible that panders to completionists. And kids, of course.

I don't see what the problem is. Hey, at least it wasn't a music update.

BAM IM THAT ONE FUCKING CHEF

I enjoyed this update. It pretty much implies trophys will be in it to, so trophys will still be there and stickers are just one thing that will extend the replay value even further for me.

And I'm not some fucking 8 year old im 17 if your wondering.

You guys, Stickers are like trophies but you can play with them. I mean seriously. The only thing you could do with the trophies was spin them around and look up Peach's skirt if that was your thing. Really I think its nice that they're mixing things up a bit. And it seems like they still HAVE trophies.

Seriously. I don't see a reason to complain about something like this. When the site started Sakurai talked about how devoted his Smash Bros. team was to playing the game- they probably wouldn't put this kind of stuff in the game if they weren't confident that the multiplayer game itself that we all actually play the game for is not up to snuff.

Basically I'm saying that I'm not worried, and another little thing added to the game is just more stuff for me to toy around with.

Holy shit guys this is something that may belong on Firebot but I know us Smashfags would truly appreciate it:

http://mojo.rick-gardiner.com/index.html

I'm not going to explain it. It requires no explanation, but EVERYONE will love it.

In terms of the last two updates, Devil was okay (but won't affect me anyways since once I start practising for tourny play items go off), and Stickers seem like a great addition to/replacement for trophies, but overall nothing spectacular. I don't see why everyone's bitching about it though, it's not like it's something that directly affects gameplay/tournament play adversely. In after "it's my opinion", I perfectly understand that stance though.

wtf, how do you people hate this:
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/music/music04.html

God. That was such an awesome update. I think I played it like 5 times in a row. Or this:
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/music/music03.html

You people are crazy.

Anyway, I don't mind stickers. It just seems like trophies. I doubt I'm going to do much with them. Just unlockables after all.

yeah, music updates are great IMO, I'd rather have them than, say, assist trophy updates.
