Gen VII: Pokemon Sun and Moon Discussion MKII

Its been a while since I posted here, and quite a bit has been revealed.

Tortonator looks really fucking cool in a weird sense. Its typing rids it of the Water, Fairy, and Ice weaknesses that would plague it if was either type individually. It'll likely have low speed though. I seriously hope its competitively viable. (At least in RU or NU)

Crabrawler being pure Fighting is weird, but there most be some reason for it. Anyways, a lot of it reminds me of Hitmonchan for some reason. The design's good in my opinion.

Those are best of the revealed Pokemon in my opinion.

Edit: Found out that Crabrawler's a coconut crab and coconut crabs can't swim. And while I'm here, thoughts on the other reveals:

Meowth: That smug-ass face. I just love it.

Raichu: I really wish it was Electric/Fairy, but having an Electric/Psychic is still worthwhile.

Sand Castles: I don't have much hope for either of these being good unless it gets a good hidden ability.

Pyukumuku: Its adorable. I don't know what the Alolan population is smoking. I hope it gets an evolution, but I do have my doubts.

Stuffel: For some reason I wanted its English name to be "Belittle" but whatever. Its a literal plush toy and its cute.

Morelull: Looks generic, but the typing's great.

Marowak: Looks great for PU. Counters Monferno, nice Electric immunity. (Zebstrika and Raichu have to run Hidden Power Water in order to hit it) Will likely get Flame Charge to alleviate regular Marowak's bad speed. Outside of PU though I don't think it'll see use.

Wishiwashi: Great design for the school form, doubt its use.

Do we ever see Sandygast at full HP? What if Shellder didn't do damage? That would be a REALLY powerful ability tho.

Edit- ninja'd; doesn't seem to be the case.

With Water Compaction, its Defense stat will go up by 2 if it’s hit with a Water-type move.

Now, if the sand ghost has the right stats defensively this ability can turn out to be pretty useful.
A full health sand ghost would probably discourage the use of water moves if it gets good defenses; Especially, if it gets recover or slack off.

Also hoping for SR or Spikes on this one.
Are you kidding? This ability is gimmicky trash that's completely reliant on the opponent to work. Also the Pokemon really doesn't look like it'll have over 50 Speed considering it's literally a pile of sand. Not to mention most of the Water moves are Special, and many of them STAB, and the ones that aren't are mostly seen on Pokemon that raise their attack ((M) Gyarados, Azumarill, Crawdaunt, Feraligatr etc) so the Defense boost is just going to be useless anyway.

This thing is already doomed from the get go. At this point I just wish they'd give them Arena Trap as their HA, but I'm not holding my breath anymore.

I somehow realized this when I first looked at Turtonator. The Sugimori artwork and Turtonator model look incredibly similar to Rainy Turtloids' sprite from MMX6.

latest

And they're both turtle-based. How about that?

This was my IMMEDIATE first thought when Turtonator was released. I'm so happy someone has already mentioned this lol.

I seriously hope they give the Ghost type a good Physical move. No physical Ghost move goes over 100 power. (I think Giratina's signature move comes close but its a Dig clone and very easily taken advantage of)

I know of a Pokemon hack where there was a Ghost-type Hammer Arm basically called Monster Mash. I want that to be a thing in the actual games. One that doesn't cripple speed in addition to the Hammer Arm clone would be great as well.

A better special Ghost-type move would be great as well.

Shadow Force is 120 BP, but yes it's a 2-turn move. Phantom Force was just a bad joke.

The fact that Dark-type moves completely outclass Ghost-type ones in terms of usefulness when they pretty much have the same coverage is so frustrating. They really need to do something about that.

With lack of immunity Water Compaction is really situational.
You'd not usually want to take on a physically attacking water Pokemon with a Ground type (and water is rarely used as coverage).

That said, perhaps it gets Will-o-Wisp as even the Water/Ghost, Jellicent, does.
That would shut down physical attackers and make things difficult even for those which rely on Water STAB when Water Compaction is factored in.
Throw in recovery and perhaps we could make a decent set. Basically, the ability is lacklustre but we don't know enough yet to judge Palossand.

If Palossand turns out good because of the moves and stats, it'll be because of the moves and stats, lol. The ability will just be an afterthought, then.

We can judge the ability because we know what it does, and what is does is trash.

Someone needs to draw Crabrawler trying to remove one of Alolan Eggy's heads.
The coconut crab and the palm are a match made in heaven.

Also

Despite all the cuteness, Pokemon is morbid sometimes.

Will you like my Alolan Mantine if I do so? Because I need to draw something, but only have time for one thing!

Better yet, copy Meteor Mash, and call that the Monster Mash. Hammer Arm can be Monster Smash!

People knocking down Pollosand before we even got the stats for it. Have we learned nothing from Gen V Whimsicott or Gen VI Malamar? moves and stats can change everything, lets not pass judgement so quickly.

We are criticizing Water Compaction on it, not Palossand itself, not even Water Compaction itself.

And for that matter... why of all things it increases defense, and it's put on a sand castle Pokemon? It would crumble to water lol

Well, think about it: what do you use usually to make sure that sandcastles stand and don't simply blow away with a single gust? You mix sand with saltwater, so that the sandcastle becomes more rigid and durable. Hence Water Compaction and its Defense-boosting effect.

Blame me living nowhere near any kind of beach.

I feel like they tried to be overly unique with it and didn't really think it through. Like, just give it Storm Drain and call it a day, jeez.

Or at least making it immune to Water. I mean, there are several abilities that give immunities and stat boosts. Except Justified, because who knows.

WE FOUND THE KELDEO COUNTER. Immune to both water and fighting holy dude.

It took damage from the Razor Shell implying that it is not immune to Water.

Also, is it me or is something sticking out of Stufful's butt which isn't its tail. There's this white thing.
