gastrodon

:ss/Gastrodon:
Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Scald
- Recover
- Toxic

:gastrodon: is a check to toxtricity because it can come in on its overdrive and volt switch and thus block the latter of these moves to drain out momentum, which volt switch usaully offers. however gastrodon has a bit of a tough time to come in on boomburst, but even with that in mind gastrodon is still an effective threat to toxtricity and it doesnt get stalled out by toxic that easily because gastrodon has recover in its moveslot and earth power is a ohko.

calcs:
252 SpA Choice Specs Punk Rock Toxtricity Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 221-261 (51.8 - 61.2%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Gastrodon Earth Power vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Toxtricity: 484-576 (165.7 - 197.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Gastrodon Scald vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Toxtricity: 109-129 (37.3 - 44.1%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Flygon makes a solid check to Toxtricity. It can come in on Volt Switch and Overdrive + it doesn't really care that much about Toxic either. With blocking opposing Volt Switch it drains momentum from the opppontent and provides own momentum via U-turn. Flygon hates Boomburst. In fact that is the reason it's only a check, since you really really need a safe switch.

  • move it over to checks and vice versa.
  • Please only post Pokemon that are viable in the UnderUsed metagame. Check out the viability rankings if you want to see what’s usable in the metagame. I will make exceptions however if you provide a ton of evidence (four or five high ladder replays that show that this Pokemon is able to accomplish its job along with a few calcs and a brief description of what that Pokemon does in the metagame) to back up this Pokemon.

Golurk @ Kasib Berry / Colbur Berry
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Shadow Punch
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

Golurk is a COUNTER to toxtricity. It takes every one of its moves with ease and volt-blocks it. Kasib Berry allows Golurk to revenge kill Chandelure in a pinch and better deal with Doublade, while a Colbur Berry allows Golurk to have a mildly better Incineroar matchup and have a higher likelihood of checking Machamp, and Colbur is better to use if Jolly. I prefer an Adamant nature because it allows Golurk to 2HKO Rhyperior, but a Jolly nature can also be used to outspeed Modest Sylveon and max Speed Adamant Machamp, though you don't OHKO either. The item and nature do not matter for checking Toxtricity. I'm merely pointing out what Golurk's most useful sets are, and the reasonings.

Hey guys I'm your friendly neighborhood cohost back to support this gen's victim of the week. Also will participate for the hell of it. I also created this aesthetically pleasing archives if you want to take a look.

Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

- Sucker Punch

My husband is a solid enough check to punk daddy Toxtricity. Outspeeds and absorbs all of the Overdrives one angsty reptile can throw at you. Unfortunately my husband gets tired very quickly especially at the blasting of one Boomburst. Despite being a Steel-type, my husband is a fragile and delicate flower that could even be OHKOed by such a move if the highest of rolls were to occur.

Congratulations to Luirromen for winning this week of victim!

This week’s victim is Reuniclus!

:sm/reuniclus:
PERFECT PLACES (Reuniclus) @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 212 HP / 252 SpA / 44 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Focus Blast
- Psychic
- Thunder
- Recover

With the combination of Magic Guard Life Orb and great coverage, Reuniclus has cemented itself as a dominating breaker in the metagame. Additionally, good bulk and access to recovery set it apart from the likes of Gardevoir and Espeon, who often compete for a team slot with Reuniclus. Which threat of yours will have a perfect place facing off against such a devastating threat?

Celebi
:ss/celebi:

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Giga Drain/Leaf Storm
- Psychic
- Recover/Earth Power/Protect
I would really like to say that Celebi is a counter to LO Reuniclus, due to resist Thunder, Focus Miss and Psychic, however, we dont have to forget that Reuniclus has acces to another 2 viable coverages on Shadow Ball and rare Signal Beam, being both able to hit super efective Celebi and other stuffs like Bronzong, Doublade and Espeon. So, Celebi is a check, as I said is able to resist most of Reuniclus coverage (any move in this case), access to Recovery and also be able to use Reuniclus as a Set Up folder with Nasty Plot
:reuniclus: -> :celebi:
252+ SpA Life Orb Reuniclus Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Celebi: 101-121 (29.6 - 35.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Life Orb Reuniclus Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Celebi: 90-107 (26.3 - 31.3%) -- 13.2% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Life Orb Reuniclus Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Celebi: 242-286 (70.9 - 83.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
:celebi: -> :reuniclus:

Reserving Escavalier

:ss/Escavalier:
Escavalier @ Choice Band
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 168 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Megahorn
- Close Combat

Escavalier is a check to Reuniclus. It resists Reuniclus Psychic-STABs and due to its typing it doesn't get hit for super effective damage from fighting-coverage.
In return, Escavalier OHKOs with its STAB Megahorn or Knock Off if you don't want to miss.
But even with its good defense and typing, it can only come in once on Focus Blast so be aware of that.

:Reuniclus: --> :Escavalier:
252+ SpA Life Orb Reuniclus Psychic vs. 168 HP / 4 SpD Escavalier: 97-116 (30 - 35.9%) -- 34.9% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Reuniclus Focus Blast vs. 168 HP / 4 SpD Escavalier: 174-205 (53.8 - 63.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Reuniclus Thunder vs. 168 HP / 4 SpD Escavalier: 160-188 (49.5 - 58.2%) -- 98.4% chance to 2HKO

:Escavalier: --> :Reuniclus:
252+ Atk Choice Band Escavalier Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 212 HP / 4 Def Reuniclus: 452-532 (109.1 - 128.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Escavalier Iron Head vs. 212 HP / 4 Def Reuniclus: 280-330 (67.6 - 79.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Escavalier Megahorn vs. 212 HP / 4 Def Reuniclus: 836-986 (201.9 - 238.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Escavalier Close Combat vs. 212 HP / 4 Def Reuniclus: 139-164 (33.5 - 39.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

So both faded and I have discussed on the subject and since Celebi is able to always win against the given set, it has been bumped to a counter. Because of this, we allow Corthius and Luirromen to win this round for their check and counter respectively. Congrats!

For this round, the victim is Escavalier.

FINESSE (Escavalier) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 224 HP / 56 Atk / 60 Def / 124 SpD / 44 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- Megahorn
- Knock Off
- Close Combat

A Pokemon that has gained a lot of traction, Escavalier’s typing allows it to be an extraordinary check or even counter to a medley of offensive Pokemon such as Roserade, Celebi, Gardevoir, and Haxorus. It also possesses ample coverage for most of the metagame. Lets see how you’ll answer this tank.

Assuming we are looking at this in a vacuum (I.e., no teammates, hazards, or other factors), physically defensive Arcanine is a counter to Escavalier.

Arcanine @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 16 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flamethrower
- Toxic
- Morning Sun
- Teleport

Arcanine can come in on any move that Escavalier throws off and heal off the damage with Morning Sun, while usually OHKOing Escavalier back with Flamethrower. Arcanine hates losing its boots to Knock Off, but assuming we are just looking at Arcanine's ability to check Escavalier with all other factors not considered, this isn't relevant.

Mantine
:ss/mantine:

Mantine @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Roost
- Defog
- Haze
Good dual typing on Water/Flying, even if Mantine hates to lose HDB by Knock Off, Mantine is a counter to Escavalier, acces to a reliable recovery on Roost, even if that means lose Bug resist by one turn, also Escavalier does not want to stay on a Scald Burn, Mantine also naturally outspeeds Escavalier.
:Escavalier: -> :Mantine:
56+ Atk Escavalier Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mantine: 94-111 (25.1 - 29.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
56+ Atk Escavalier Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mantine: 87-102 (23.2 - 27.2%) -- 65.9% chance to 4HKO
56+ Atk Escavalier Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mantine: 174-205 (46.5 - 54.8%) -- 62.9% chance to 2HKO (If mantine used Roost)
:Mantine: -> :Escavalier:
0 SpA Mantine Scald vs. 224 HP / 124 SpD Escavalier: 61-73 (18.1 - 21.6%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Mantine Scald vs. 224 HP / 124 SpD Escavalier: 61-73 (18.1 - 21.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery and burn damage

Vileplume @ Black Sludge
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Leech Seed
- Sap Strength

it’s funny because you realize lots of Esca teams think they have a solid Roserade MU but this set actually counters Esca fairly easily.
