Metagame [SPOILERS] Scarlet & Violet OU Discussion [BAN LIST POST 626]

Not open for further replies.
I don't think it makes a lot of sense to drop former Ubers into OU before the DLCs since the best mons from past generations aren't in the game yet. Lando-T and Heatran and many OU staples being gone will probably make it a lot harder to check a large portion of the meta, and hazards being everywhere makes Pokemon that were broken in past generations even more broken. Can you imagine dropping Zama-C in the tier with Lando-T not in it or Heatran not available to deter Future Point? Zama-C, if it gets tested this generation, should not be a priority right now when the meta is highly unstable.
When Zamazenta gets into the game, Lando-T also will at the same time though, they are both in Home. Same for Heatran (who is the main reason I wish moves from prior Gens can't be transfered). I do agree that they shouldn't be immediately retested (after all, 600 BST is big) but when the meta settles down, both Zamazenta forms and Giratina-A should be given a chance.

I really like the fact that now hail has been replaced by snow and boosts by 1,5 Ice Pokemons phisical defense. I think they need this buff and I Hope we could have a decent aurora veil user in this meta. (Haha 1'5+ screens goes brrrrrr)

Glowking will get a lot better now, one of the only things that held it back was the lack of Teleport. Now it can Teleport + Future Sight as well but isn't held back that much without Scald as the regular Slowtwins (Slowbro even lost Teleport sooo ...)

I've been building a bit, and this offensive pair looks very good for breaking defensive cores

Hey people, today I bring you Iron Viliant with the question;

What's everyone's thoughts and opinions on Iron Valiant?

It has 130 Atk, 120 Sp.A, and 116 Spe, meaning you could use it as a Special Attacker, Physical Attacker, or a Mixed Attacker. One of the good things about this mon is that it 2hkos a LOT at +1
With access to Physical Moves such as, Close Combat, Knock Off, Night Slash, Leaf Blade, the Elemental Punches, SD, Drain Punch, Poison Jab, Zen Headbutt, Shadow Sneak and X-Scissor.

I don't know how to get the button with the drop down stuff so,

It looks very strong and versatile. It has the stats to get a boosted attack, special attack or speed under electric terrain (or energy booster) depending on what you want to do with it. It's typing is also excellent and it has a very good movepool. It honestly might be too strong and get banned down the line but it's hard to tell right now.

Corv still gets defog as an egg move
I know, but he is the only viable one unless Giratina gets to OU or Scizor recovers Roost somehow.
Being the only Defogger also means offensive teams (both Screens and Hazard centered) have it way easier to prepare and prevent Corvi from doing his job. In SS they had to prepare for Corvi, Torn, Lando, Scizor, Zapdos and a couple more, now it's just Corvi. Taunt is still a move many Mons learn, Goldengo exists, Sun and Electric Terrain will probably be common due to Paradox Mons. If everything else somehow fails, Zone is still a thing.

Don't take me wrong, I do think Corviknight will still be OU this gen, but his job will be much harder without other Defoggers around and with huge meta changes.

Well, gholdengo is a problem to every hazard remover, inmune to Spin and defog is very huge. Also the only electric Terrain setter of this generation is pinchurchin so IDK how much is going to be used, knowing his stats

If you have any suggestions for sets, please feel free to leave a message on my wall. I will update this post regularly and add sets for more niche Pokemon such as Lokix, Orthworm, and Typhlosion-Hisui later. Didn't see the need to prioritize them right now. I thought it'd be a cool idea to have everything properly formatted and compiled into one post for the playerbase. I got the idea after watching blunder on stream last night talking about wanting a resource like this. Agency agency. Enjoy!

Scarlet & Violet Set Compendium
by advaita
If you have any suggestions for sets, please feel free to leave a message on my wall. I will update this post regularly and add sets for more niche Pokemon such as Lokix, Veluza, and Maushold later. Didn't see the need to prioritize them right now. I thought it'd be a cool idea to have everything properly formatted and compiled into one post for the playerbase. I got the idea after watching blunder on stream last night talking about wanting a resource like this. Agency agency. Enjoy!
Some thoughts:
- klawf does not actually get shell smash.
- I think you are overrating booster energy. Definitely doesn’t make sense on hazard control sets. Should only really be on set-up sets designed to win the game immediately. This is because you lose the boost when you switch out.
- leppa berry pawmi will probably be a meme, I can see choiced items getting use with revival blessing.
- heavy duty boots will definitely see play on cyclizar

a few goofy sets I thought of:

Arghonaut CAP (Quaquaval) @ Leftovers
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Roost
- Liquidation
- U-turn

Can take hits from Chien-pao? Kinda?

Slow Shed Tail (Orthworm) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Earth Eater
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
0 Speed IV
Sassy Nature
- Shed Tail
- Spikes
- Metal Burst
- Heavy Slam

invaluable sub support for hyper offense, allowing a sweeper to begin a turn behind a sub without doing anything is insane.

Don't take me wrong, I do think Corviknight will still be OU this gen, but his job will be much harder without other Defoggers around and with huge meta changes.
oh ok i thought you meant that corv lost it with the cries in corviknight. No way giratina is coming to OU tho, it's way too fat and splashable for that, even if Chien-pao stays it will be too hard to get around

tera as a mechanic might just wind up overbearing and need to be banned, but i feel it has some solid potential to give scarlet and violet OU a unique identity and rushing to ask for it to be banned or assuming it will be banned is premature. needing to identify what the tera targets on the enemy team and their potential types are, whilst figuring out which of your tera targets are best suited to being preserved for the endgame and when the optimal time to pop the tera has a lot of potential merits. mind games, risk assessment, and rewarding you for knowledge of the meta all seem like big pluses for the mechanic.

it also has more complexity to it than stuff like gems or z-crystals because it's not just a offensive question. sometimes changing for a clutch resistance or immunity can be more impactful than terastalizing for an attack, and that factor gives it a lot more depth and skill testing than "open palm slam that attack button!!" without being the blanket 'oops, 2x hp and all your moves are superpowered' that dynamax was.

My opponent loads HO, with 6 potential Tera abusers. I successfully identify the Volcarona as being Ground Tera when it OHKOs my Heatran switchin after setting up to +1. Thankfully, I have Rotom-Wash in the back for exactly this situation. I take nearly 80% but I win the 1v1, which is what matters. Unfortunately, the opponent then switches into their SD Chien-Pao and sweeps. I am truly grateful for the endless unique interactions Tera will provide.

This literally just sounds like how z-moves work on HO.

Gholdengo's impact on the metagame might be extremely interesting. It influences heavily, which hazard setters (and which defoggers) are viable. Those who can kill Gholdengo will be really valuable, those who can't will just be setup fodders.
Not even Chien-Pao is safe, it gets obliterated by Make it Rain.

That or Psychic Fangs. Or Infiltrator Pult. Or Defo... Never mind *sad Corviknight noises*
Infiltrator could be huge this gen, Specs Pult with Flamethrower might be a great weapon against Veil Snow teams, albeit the Ice weakness could ruin it's day, especially as the guy will be unable to outspeed some slush rush mons

Do we have any other special mons with infiltrator?

Part of the reason why Great Tusk or Iron treads will likely see a lot of play. Really flexible ground type hazard control with offensive pressure and defensive utility.

With the reduced Knock Off distribution, the debate beetween Boots and Hazards will start getting warmer, in my personal opinion boots are fine and healthy due to them increasing the viability of some mons, and also because it makes teambuilder easier, while yes, a defog/rapid spin user are still mandatory, you can now use one that maybe does not have the best self sustain in change for something else, and Knock Off is so good your still gonna put them on your set even if boots are ilegal because its an attack and knocks the items of almost anyone

But I can see more heat on the debate due to less defoggers, less knock off, this means that people are gonna be using some more especific mons instead slaping in to literally everything, that means, theres gonna be more especific and clear ways to counter them, and in return, use mons that counters those mons that counter your mons, whew lad

My stance is, lets all be friends and wait untill home, if action must be taken, then at least some clear outline will be out there
also, just because this seems the case, its no excuse to unban giratina, for the love of god please no, what are you guys doing aaaaaaaaaa
