my entire pokemon game tier list is a hot take so I think it fits here

Steak's pretty shit. Like even if its perfectly medium rare, super tender with meat juices squirting out, the flavor is barely there. It has some beef flavor and that's all. And the feeling you have after having eating a fatty steak is the absolute worst, I have no idea why it's served with butter on top and fries as a side

I don't like meat all that much but juicy chicken breast is much better to me

Here’s a new one following yesterday’s Nintendo Direct? That Thousand-Year Door remake everyone was going crazy over? Provided I haven’t really followed the Paper Mario series that well, I’m just going to say it… it doesn’t look that great. To the best of my knowledge, these older Paper Mario games kind of have a bit of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon syndrome where the nostalgic novelty the games have for many people take heavy priority over the games’ other shortcomings. These older games may have a good story and decent gameplay, sure, but when so many turn based RPGs exist in 2023-24 that also have these same qualities, it becomes harder to stick out in an over-saturated crowd.

as a mario and luigi fan, i can tell you that if your favorite mario rpg is being remade, be prepared for the worst

Unfortunately there’s no one true answer to this predicament. Eastern and western audiences traditionally have very different views on this kind of thing, and either way at least one faction of the audience of this game will be upset. If you decide to censor, you’re running the risk of upsetting the trans community, but if you don’t censor, you’ll have people complaining Paper Mario has “woke content”.

I know I sent a “Haha” react on your post, but the sad truth is, there’s probably going to be more people that will fall under this distinction than I’d care to admit. And the really sad part? There’s other pros and cons that this remake will have that have absolutely nothing to do with a singular character that might ruffle a couple feathers. If we’ve seen anything from international audiences in the last year or so, though, it’s that they can find ways to get upset about pretty much anything. I am fully expecting a morality war to develop between die-hard TTYD fans and “modern gaming activists”, so to speak, and said conflict will end up being this remake’s downfall. Mark my words.

Hey, this wouldn’t be the “Hot Takes” thread if I didn’t have opinions like that, would it? All jokes aside, you’re probably right. And for future reference, the phrase is touch grass, not smoke it.
 
I've definitely felt unexcited about both the TTYD and SMRPG remakes even coming from the perspective of someone who hasn't played them before. The visuals and dialog don't feel like much of a selling point when I've already seen a playthrough or two in the years since their first releases, while the RPG systems don't seem like they get to the level of synergy-building I've been looking for elsewhere. So I'm not really sure of anything I would be getting these games for.

I never played Paper Mario 1 as a kid, never had any connection with it during my youth and when I played it last year as an adult, I adored it. Amazing RPG

Never experienced TTYD but I am certain it will be a similar experience
