Aha! I think I may have found the solution... going to try this when I get home tonight. If it works, this info might help you next time you switch DS' so that you don't have to restart your game. :)

From there, select which options that apply to you and follow the instructions. This will ultimately lead you to your DS and game registered and now you may access Nintendo Wi-Fi."

From this it seems like doing the wifi-config process for each game version is needed. Here's hoping that it works. :D

I'll try to figure out how to register my Diamond version and my new DS together first -- I'm wondering if I might have to go through the Start Menu wifi-Configuration option again... I didn't try that. If it doesn't work then tomorrow morning I'll try to connect to wifi through my HeartGold version on my old DS, maybe the wifi was just being finnicky today. If that doesn't work either it would be great if you could transfer the Pokemon to Gen V when you're able, and we could make the trade on the weekend. ^_^'' No rush or anything.

Sorry for the complications. If I can just get my old game connected to my new DS with its perfect wifi access then trading should be a breeze in the future. X'D

I hope I can get a new friend code so that my Pokemon Diamond version can go on wifi with my new 3DS... it allowed me to delete my current friend code and contacts but it didn't seem to assign me a new one yet. When I check to view my friend code it tells me I have to go on wifi to get a fc but on wifi it tells me I can't connect. There has to be a way around this... on Pokemon Black I had a friend code connected to my old DS, and still managed to change this friend code so that I could connect using the 3DS instead...

Worse case scenario, I'll have to trade from my heartgold tomorrow instead of my Diamond XD

My old "fat" DS wifi is acting up and wont connect, I'm gonna try to reset FC real fast to work with 3DS now

guuh... old wifi connection doesn't want to work on my gen4 game.. how do I reset my wifi friend code so that I can use it with my new 3DS? The 3DS wifi works SO much better...
