  • Hey Pinkacross, I took your advice regarding my pert and ttar team suggestion and this is what I came up with. Hoping for some feedback but personally it's a fun team to use. Reached 1500s with it https://pokepast.es/0d72372cc35f00ff

This team certainly has some solid cores and interesting ideas, but I don't think it would have much success in high ladder. This team lacks speed control, and notably has no solid answers to a Swords Dance Kartana. A Nasty Plot Tornadus, Swords Dance Weavile, and other fast setup sweepers are alos extremely threatening. I'd restructure to make the team more offensive since you already have Aurora Veil.

P.S. for this much info it'd be easier to start a Conversation for future reference.

Thank you!! I'll take your advice!
Hello Pinkacross, I'm kinda new to Pokemon Showdown(started last week), tried some OU sample teams and some of your teams, enjoyed playing them. Was hoping if you have a team with Bisharp in it (Love that Sword Blade Pokemon). And what kind of team would you recommend for new players (like HO, BO, etc.). Advance thanks for the help.

I do have a Bisharp team, though I currently have to keep the sets secret as it will likely be used in some upcoming tournaments. Once those have passed I'll let you know. As for playstyle, I'd highly recommend balance for newer players. Learning to play aggressively while also sustaining walls is great for teaching the basic elements of the game. For VERY new players I'd recommend HO or Rain as it is easier.

Hi, thanks for the recommendations. Excited to know your Bisharp team.
Hello, Sorry to bother you but I've been using several of your teams (thanks for them btw!) and I've especially been liking your flame charge blacephalon team. However, IK it's from an outdated time, so I'm wondering if you feel that it could do with any updating (didn't want to necro the thread). Thank you!

I'm glad you enjoy my teams! I think I'll get around to updating the Blacephalon team eventually, but if you like you can also attempt it yourself. The starting core of Blacephalon + Specs Lele is definitely still viable I feel, and Flame Charge Blacephalon can certainly still sweep teams. It ws a fun project and I'll be sure to contact you if I'm able to find a good, working version for the current meta. :)

Looks mostly pretty good, though I'd personally restrucutre to avoid using Corviknight. It's quite bad on balances generally, and it does a mediocre job of removing hazards.
Hi Pinkacross. Happy New Year. Hope you are well.

I had a rain team that done well on ladder for me until now (took me from 1400s to 1762). Do you mind rating it ? - https://pokepast.es/1877893f6fe45118

This is a solid rain, I'm very impressed. I can't find any big errors. One small criticism is that a lot of your team can be dealt with individually and with different checks-- a Weavile for the Garchomp, a Spdef wall (Hippo, Tar) for Zapdos, and a Slowbro for Barraskewda, for example. Crawdaunt and Skewda pressure nicely in this regard, but Zapdos and Chomper are independent.

Try testing and see if it continues going well. Overall, I really like the team. :)

Thanks for the feedback. I could perhaps try Yache on Chomp, and so far Ferro has done a good job vs Weavile. As for Sand, I agree that the setters wall Zap, but outplaying them worked so far. But yeah, since I'm in 1800s now, some things may or may not work. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the rate, and looking forward to your next RMT
Hello! I used to play PS (and mostly ou) religiously, but took a break for most of gen 8. I have been struggling to climb the gen 8 ou ladder, though I have found your teams (especially your rain team) to be really fun. Do you have any recommendations for teams that will do well on the ladder?
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Well the rain is great for ladder, it got me to #1. I'd advise patience, and focusing on having fun, and your past skills will return as you learn the metagame. Focusing on reaching higher ELO can make the game stressful. Still, if you really want to climb ladder, I'd use HO from 1000-1700 (the OxTheFox sample would be good) and use solid balances/offenses for 1700+.
Hey, I am a pretty new player. Started playing pokemon showdown like 3 weeks ago and i really love creating teams, it feels much more rewarding then using samples. I post them on the rating teams page and i appreciate the community for giving constructive critiscm and stuff, but alot of them say to use sample teams and i don't find it as fun..do you have any basic team building tips? Thanks!

No HO team is all that good right now, they're extremely inconsistent. That being said, this team seems decent. You've got some cores that can threaten most teams, though I'd give Alakazam Shadow Ball over Dazzling Gleam. Helps against Lele and Shedinja.

Fantastic! If you attempt something, I'd be glad to rate it for you here.
Hi pinkacross, your teambuilding is really creative. I was wondering if it's possible to make a viable team with both ttar and swampert on it. I know it's a tough ask considering their shared lack of longevity but I assumed if anyone can make it work, you're probably one of the best people to do it. I've been able to make some HO teams reach 1500 with them but thats it.
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Perhaps try a sand build. I'd recommend CB Ttar + Specially Defensive Swampert, this could be a scary pair. Add an Excadrill for removal and for sweeps, and that gives you 3, a solid starting point.

To summarize quickly: Gravity lets Excadrill (Landorus too but mostly Excadrill) click Earthquake for free and ruin most teams. Often times teams rely on Levitate and Flying Types as Ground-type counters, this ruins those teams. For instance, this lets Excadrill 2hko Landorus, OHKO Corviknight, OHKO Rotom-Wash, and OHKO Skarmory (all previously difficult targets).

ohhhhhhhh tyvm i never knew it worked like that
hey, I'm super new to OU is there any good blacephelon team that's being used rn?
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Blacephalon is a good and scary mon, I don't currently have any OU teams with Blacephalon but ask around the OU room and I'm sure you'll find some.

hi do you have a discord? i'd like to talk to you about something!!! (it's good dw)
welp guess what i'm back and with another question do u happen to have any nihilego teams?
you realize all that math you posted could apply to literally anything with a freezing move, right?

Maybe I missed the part in your original post where you said freezing wasn't the only problem, but later on I think when people started talking about like freeze clause (I don't quite remember when it was exactly) you started correcting people by saying no, freezing is not the ONLY reason Kyurem is strong.
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
My original post was on page 158, my first paragraph discussed why Kyurem was fantastic apart from freezes-- freezing is just what makes Kyurem uncompetitive and a little too good, in my opinion.
hello pinka hope this not to much of a bother, a friend and i did some battling recently and my specs zone dismantled his team so he wants to know if there are any good some what long lasting specs zone counters that could fit on this team Untitled PokePaste

    Pinkacross
It seems like Specs Magnezone isn't a huge problem, although it is certainly scary. I'd recommend trying to work Corviknight out of the picture, however. Corviknight is a lackluster choice on balances as it tends to be easily abused. Restructuring the team with different removal should help against Specs Magnezone. :)
Are you really 61 years old? If so, its awesome to see someone of your age play this game so well. Huge fan of your teams. Keep it up.

Good question. Perhaps I am, perhaps I am not. I'm private about my IRL info even with my closest of PS friends. Still, I appreciate the encouragement and I'll continue working to give people fun, creative teams to play with. :)
Hello! Been getting bored of OU and I could use some intresting team ideas around a not so used mon,do you have any suggestions/ideas? (Sorry for bothering ya)
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
Never a bother to share some ideas. One pokemon I've been experimenting with recently is Choice Banded Sharpedo. With access to Flip Turn, Crunch, Close Combat, and Poison Jab, it can be a scary breaker that can sweep lots of teams lategame with its Speed Boosting.
Hey Pinka, how's it been? Two questions:
    A) Did that Glastrier set work for you?
    B) I built a rough draft of a team I want to post on RMT soon, would you mind helping me smooth it out?
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
    A) I havent had a chance to try it yet, but my hopes are low-- it seems pretty hit-or-miss with little utility, overall a bad sign. I'l still try it for sure, though.
    B) I'd love to help, send it to me in a PM please!

Hey!, i was just seeing some of your RMTs, actually, do you have an advice for do a good-built RMT?.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.
I appreciate your enthusiasm regarding your recent posts on the OU meta discussion thread. I don't agree with a suspect test for Rillaboom but I have a serious question: Have you personally built a team centered around Rillaboom?
    Pinkacross
    Pinkacross
I have built quite a few teams centered around Rillaboom, though I didn't end up RMTing or using any of them commonly. I made some nice Rilla squads, but the problem is, all of Rillaboom's best partners are so standard, like Heatran, Magnezone and Kartana. I just don't get much enjoyment out of standard squads. Yes though, I have used Rillaboom and I know what it's about.
