I really don't think we can call City's rise to the top a quick change. They've been spaffing away millions on transfers in both windows for 4(?) years now? So that's hardly a quick rise.

I just don't see how they can promise certain things to these players they want to sign without the manager in place. Di Matteos Chelski is a lot different to what you'd get if they had a Pep Guardiola at the helm, and that uncertainty might put a few people off. Then again, I could probably forget about such a minor detail with Romans big fat chequebook infront of my nose.

The line-up is from City's last game against United. As you can see, 5 of the starting 11 were acquired either in 2011 or 2010, while 5/7 on the bench were 2010 or 2011 acquisitions. The 2010/11 season is also around the time when City started being seen contender for the league, finishing tied second with an inferior goal difference to Chelsea. That was essentially the change I was referring to, seeing as it's the of a similar scale as the one Chelsea is currently attempting.

*Dances with joy* Can't say I'm surprised though.City were out of the race from the moment Hazard revealed he'll choose his destination based on game time. From there on,it was just common sense.United can offer game time and Chelsea can offer game time and more pay;it's a no brainer. You can argue that United is in a better position to win the league next season than Chelsea but being relatively better doesn't matter since City's squad is better as of now imo and Fergie doesn't have the resources to bring in all the players he'll need to beat City and avoid a CL group stage exit again. As for Chelsea, getting Hazard is a huge boost and if we capture the rest of our summer targets then we could easily be challenging for title. If we don't,we'll probably finish third, buy more players, sell the useless ones and challenge for the title after that. But as I see it,the only thing keeping us from challenging for the title is a solid striker. Our league finish next season depends on whether or not Torres starts scoring regularly. Then again,we are chasing Falcao,Hulk and Higuain among others.

EDIT:And Havak lets not forget who won nothing last season.Another thing that must have convinced him to join the Blues.

I still think United are and will still be in a far better position to win things than Chelsea next season. We had a bad Champions League run but that rarely happens to United. Three finals, a semi-final and quarter-final in five years shows how well United can compete in Europe. Losing Vidic, Fletcher, and playing a lot of younger / squad players in group games cost us this time. We'll see a stronger Champions League showing next season with added experience and a bit of investment. I don't think we'll win it of course, but with the luck of the draw I can't see any English team other than Man City getting further. Fancy Real Madrid though.

I don't think the fact United won nothing last season (albeit only on GD) was a factor in Hazard's decision. It's purely the fact that Chelsea have probably made him the highest paid player in the Premier League to acquire him. Maybe Man Utd couldn't afford him, but when we'll be getting rid of some of the deadwood at United this Summer, the wage bill would have been reduced a lot. So I believe United could have afforded his wage demands and the agent fee, but he would have been perhaps the only signing we could have afforded at over £32million and over £200,000 a week. Plus a £6million fee for his agent. He had City, United, and Chelsea by the balls with this transfer saga and I honestly believe United decided not to be held ransom. We would have offered him over £100,000 per week, but not wanted to meet his agent fee because that was ridiculous lol. He's 21 for Christ sake and must be on at least £220,000 a week. He's unproven in the Premier League and he's on as much, if not more than Wayne Rooney and Yaya Toure. As soon as he was allowed to announce his signing on Twitter (lol how ridiculous) I knew it was Chelsea. They would be the only team to allow this because they have no manager in place yet - so no press conference.

He'll be a great player I'm sure, but I don't foresee immediate success in regards to winning things at Chelsea. I would have if he went to City or United. But yeah, money talks. United will sign Kagawa and a couple of other players instead of only getting Hazard + a youngster like Powell. Have to wait and see whether this was the correct move.

I fancy Chelsea to give Torres the chance to be their focal point with Hazard behind him. So while I originally thought they'd sign another striker, they may not now. It's the same with United. I thought with the possibility of getting rid of Owen, Berbatov, Macheda, and Bebe we'd see another striker sign. But we might just rely on Kagawa playing behind Rooney, and in some games play Welbeck / Herandez with Rooney in the hole instead. Chelsea might just do similar with Torres / Sturridge / Lukaku & Hazard / Mata.

spending that sort of money on an unproven player from a subpar league is just plain stupid. we paid about £10m in total for Cabaye and Ben Arfa...i don't follow european football as intensely as some of the others here but when did this Hazard guy become so sought after? 200k a week? I'd have laughed in his face.

Sky Sports News are reporting that Brendan Rogers has cut his holiday short to speak with the Norwich Swansea chairman about his future...........Liverpool?

So glad Hazard went to Chelsea instead of either of the Manchester clubs.

I'm sure every other team in the PL not named Manchester feels the same.

nah i'm sure every other team in the PL would rather he wouldn't turn up at all
and all this based off twitter? guy has been trolling for weeks, so i'm not believing a word until a club confirms it tbh.

I hope Brendan doesn't make the switch. Most Liverpool fans are fickle and expect major success quickly. It doesn't work like that, I think he'd get sacked half way through the season because the majority of players Liverpool have simply aren't good enough. I can't even imagine what realistic target the owners could set for a new manager at Liverpool..

Finish a place or two higher and fob off the Europa League is what it should be for a squad like that. But obviously they'll think they can finish fourth and win some cups again.

HAHAHAHA oh lord. Brendan Rogers leaves for Liverpool of all places. Poor Akuchi. Got to laugh though lol!

We all know the questions that will be asked: what on earth are Swansea going to do now? I'm sure Sigurdsson won't be overly happy either, who do you think he thought he'd be working under? This fucks over Swansea big time. Damn, football is a funny business...

Also inb4 Rogers delivers solid but unspectacular results and gets sacked before the season is out. They sacked Dalglish and Hodgeson, what do they expect of Rogers? 4th place and 2 cups? I really don't know what Liverpool are thinking these days.

It's strange that he'd want to leave Swansea, with them finishing only 5 points off of Liverpool. Sure their budgets are quite different, but it seems to me that Swansea have the resources and commercial potential (as the only Welsh team in the Prem) to be as established as Everton. So if he stays he gets job security and less stress than if he goes to Liverpool where he'll be sacked when his players don't perform. Guess the risk is worth it to him.

As established as Everton? You mean the team that hasn't been relegated from the top division since 1951? Ok.

We all know the real reason.. money. Swansea are reportedly getting a 4-5m compensation deal, and Rogers himself will be on much more than he was at Swansea. The American's aren't tight with their cash.. as long as you don't make fools of them.. like Dalglish did (and not to mention the whole Suarez debacle..made everyone look like a fool). Rogers at least plays football the way the old Liverpool used to; keep the ball and press high up the pitch to get it back when they lost it. Just need to see who he brings in, and chucks out. PS don't see Suarez being there in August...

But I can see Swansea maybe picking up someone like Chris Hughton? WBA were interested in him, but has a 2m buyout on his contract.. something Swansea might be willing to pay considering how much Liverpool will end up paying them.

smh. smh. smh.

actually bizarrely now it's happened i feel less gutted than when i realised last night that it was actually happening; the biggest thing i'm worried about is losing gylfi over this. plus brendan raiding swansea's squad - please lord don't let him do that. obviously he's had his head turned by the money and prestige - can't really blame him, but i bet he gets sacked by christmas. he's going from a club that love him to a club that are ambivalent about him at best who expect way more than we ever did.. swansea don't expect fuck all, haha. Chris would be an alright choice actually, I've been wondering who we're going to get.. yeah he'd do nicely. Even if we get the full 5mil as compensation it's fucking ridiculous, he had like four more years left on his deal AND this is gonna throw us into chaos - how the fuck is this not worth more than 5mill?

that aside, whilst i'm devvod to lose brendan we played sexy football before brendan and we'll play sexy football after brendan - i have faith in huw jenkins to choose a decent manager. we played 'the swansea way' since martinez and we'll keep on doing the same!

p.s. 'the only welsh team' doesn't have the commercial potential you'd think it does - the only people that hate the welsh more than the english are the welsh

fucking liverpool... it's fine though, i doubt even rogers will save them from sucking again, and he'll get sacked pretty soon.

also, i think chelsea need to buy a striker (hulk does poorly as a striker, he's mainly a winger), they shouldn't rely on torres for their main goal scorer...
