By a council vote, Mega Gengar has been Unbanned from the 2v2 Metagame.

UnleashOurPassion: Unban
Ransei: Unban
FIREEEE: Unban
Pokesartoolcay: -

3/4 members voted and with that, a majority was reached

The next matter we'll probably be taking a look at is Jirachi, that one will definitely not be decided by a council vote, but instead some kind of suspect process will be used.

Edit: Rushed posts are rushed, I forgot to explain why it was unbanned.
The main reason Mega Gengar was banned from Doubles OU is because Shadow Tag was very oppressive. This problem doesn't at all appear in 2v2 which leaves Mega Gengar as a Pokémon that is at best on par with good 2v2 threats, and at worst offensively and defensively lacking

They're meant to be teams that are easy to use, rather than the best teams available.
It's also impossible to counter the +- 80 viable Pokémon to use atm with just a single team: with team sizes of just 4 there will be always be specific sets/Pokemon that a team has difficulty dealing with.

Hello. I just wanted to write down my thoughts on what the course of action should be on the plethora of different subjects that we should work on.

Suspect Testing:
When it comes to suspect testing, I believe that there are 3 courses we can take in this matter:

  • Do what we have been doing, which is have some discussion and have the council just decide after that.

  • Having Public suspect tests, using tournaments on Pokemon Showdown in order to give requirements.

  • Do absolutely nothing for the rest of the generation.

In my opinion, option 2 is the best as it allows for community input into the tier.

Things to start with (suspect wise)

My first thought is to review everything Rumplestiltskin banned in this post

  • Z Moves: I do not have much to say about this. I just feel a public suspect will put this subject to rest once and for all. As Chloe said some time ago, hastiness has been something that has not allowed the former 2v2 council to settle this matter to the best of it's ability
Banning a concept that has been in the metagame for months and discussed thoroughly for weeks is hasty but rushing to suspect unbanning it hours later isn't?

Stating the obvious, it's easy to say with absolute certainty that the execution here was the absolute issue. If you wanted community input, you should have suspected it initially. But you already know this, haha asking for six opinions in a chatroom. It doesn't help either that the null hypothesis is that Z-moves should be permitted, but oh well, what's done is done.

Conducting a suspect test claiming council approval when Rumple wasn't even alerted of it? That's really concerning to say the least. It seems weird to have a council if you're not even going to consult them on large decisions. Even if you decide you're not going to consult them, don't claim you did zzz.
Accuracy Drop Clause: I don't believe banning every single accuracy drop move is necessary. A good amount of them should be banned for their lack of competitivity, but I would like to look at Leaf Tornado and Muddy Water.

  • Leaf Tornado isn’t really that viable, only targeting one foe (correct me if I’m wrong) and having a 50% chance (the same as hitting a zap cannon) to lower the target’s accuracy by one stage.

  • Muddy water has gotten some discussion within the places in which 2v2 doubles is discussed, due to its viability not being based off the fact that it lowers accuracy, but due to the fact that it's a competitively better alternative to surf. The chances of getting an accuracy drop are even worse than Leaf Tornado’s, with a 30% chance of an accuracy drop.
Sleep clause: I completely agree with its implementation.

A bonus:

Swagger: Hear me out, alright. I’ve done some research on Doubles OU, and the primary cause of it’s ban was its use in conjunction with Tapu Fini with allowed for many dangerous sets to rise and terrorize the tier, not because of swagger + play or something of that sort.

Resources:

I do believe we are improving in the resources department. At the moment I would like to get some things implemented and get people on board for a possible VR council. Tagging UnleashOurPassion to implement this into the front page.

Thank you for reading, and have a nice day.

I disagree with the inclusion of clefairy HO in sample teams,it gets clearly 4-0d by mega metagross as it has been pointed out MULTIPLE times
its not 4-0'd by metagross u click icy wind on clefairy, protect on volcarona and then k/o with Life Orb Heatwave the next turn.
0 SpA Clefairy Icy Wind vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Metagross-Mega: 9-11 (2.9 - 3.6%) -- best move ever
252 SpA Life Orb Volcarona Heat Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Metagross-Mega: 283-338 (94 - 112.2%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

Saying that also means that the Metagross is running Rock Slide, which is not optimal considering the coverage metagross needs that doesn't leave room for rock slide. Metagross cant even touch kart w/o hammer arm. So ur telling me ur metagross runs Protect, Meteor Mash, Hammer Arm and Rock Slide and still has to 50/50 between rock sliding and killing clefairy. That's not a 4-0 love.

In an effort to bolster activity and help create a standard for teambuilding that can be further improved in the generations coming forward, I’d like to announce the in-thread project called the 2v2 Doubles Community Teambuilding Workshop. In this, I’d like to have ourselves as the community to work on creating basis in which people, newer to the community can find teams and the basis in which teams can be made. For example: “This balance should carry a water resist in order to help their matchup versus rain, preferably a grass type which can double as an electric resist. I think I will go with Amoonguss as it has redirective capabilities, and helps this team’s Choice Specs Volcanion take on Electrics such as Tapu Koko and Zeraora”. I hope to be able to make successful teams with everyone. I will be looking at cores, so I'm open to suggestions about what I should choose.

Just a quick question, should teams be based off cores or singular pokemon? I personally think cores would be better. Would be nice to also know some your thoughts on the matter. Thank you and have a nice day.

Teams can be based off both cores and singular pokemon. Also just a suggestion but would be cool to see something like teambuilding frameworks so people can see how successful teams are made, the process behind it, and what works together and what doesnt.

The core of choice this week is Metagross-Mega + Kyurem-Black:

:sm/metagross-mega::sm/kyurem-black:
Kyurem-Black @ Assault Vest
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Atk / 76 Def / 8 SpA / 80 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Ice Beam
- Fusion Bolt / Rock Slide
- Earth Power
- Icy Wind

Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Bullet Punch
- Earthquake
- Thunder Punch

As the most used core in 1v1PL, it can deal with significant amounts of the metagame. This makes it easier to build around than other types of cores, that might require specific things. Kyurem Black's Assault Vest set makes it a good special tank that has a utility option in Icy wind, and Mega Metagross is a powerful steel type that has good coverage and a good base power STAB to complement its ability, Tough Claws. This isn't perfect, however; it still struggles with things such as Sand and Sun, but that's what the other team slots are for.

Submission Process:

  • Submit two pokemon of your choosing to be included with this core. Make sure that they are viable and explain your thought process into why you chose them.
  • If you disagree with my set choices, please explain why your set is better; Include the other two pokemon as well.
  • Submissions close on the 4th at 10 pm EST. Voting will take place until the 6th at the same time.
Happy Submitting!

Looking at this team, I see a weakness to the likes of cores such as Venusaur / Charizard, and Trick Room teams utilizing a Fire-type. For that, I would like to bring a water type that doesn't fear the common Ground / Grass coverage these teams would run. This is where Volcanion comes in:
:sm/volcanion:
Volcanion @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 216 HP / 152 SpA / 16 SpD / 124 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Steam Eruption
- Heat Wave
- Sludge Bomb
- Protect

Utilizing a Shuca Berry, Volcanion can be quite effective against Fire-Based trick room builds, as Shuca Berry takes the likely ground coverage that they would have. It also does not fear Venusaur, which allows it to do well versus sun. Sludge Bomb is a coverage move meant for faires such as Fini and slow Bulu, and protect is protect.

Although we have volcanion, our means to beating trick room are still quite weak. Hoopa-Unbound solves this problem.

:sm/hoopa-unbound:
Hoopa-Unbound @ Sitrus Berry / Wiki Berry
Ability: Magician
EVs: 248 HP / 28 SpA / 232 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Trick Room
- Hyperspace Hole
- Drain Punch
- Dark Pulse

This spread took WAY too long to formulate. This, using Hyperspace Hole, can break protect, which makes it a great countermeasure to the very viable trick room strategies that run around in the metagame. The EVs allow HoopaU to get Trick Room up Against Sand, given that they aren't running very bad sets such as X-Scissor Excadrill.

As always, thanks for reading and have a great day.

Here are the core stats if you would like to know what cores might be good to build around / prep for / use as examples for this tb workshop

A bit late on this, but this cycle's submission process is now over!

In order to vote, just proceed with one of the two:

"Vote: Kaif"

"Vote: Pokesartoolcay"

Voting should end on around the 16th, assuming I'm not colossally bad.
Turns out I'm colossally bad, but It seems that I've won this in a landslide. The next round / project (maybe) should come out in a few days tagging Knuckstrike to help me with vr changes, and As of this post, there will be no more Nominations for this cycle.
