3-3, eh? So did andrea actually battle and lose to Havak or their week 5 sub or did we get an inexplicable activity loss against someone who posted dropping out of the event because they couldn't participate...? Couldn't find a post on it.

He drops out of the tournament and doesn't respond to her vm and you flip for it? How does that even make sense?

Anyway I'm too lazy to battle this week with exams and halloween and everything hoping for a good flip I guess

don't respond to vms

drop out tournament

???

win

strong strategy

JAA: skarm vs. zarator tbh this is really just a guess, either of them could win it
VGC 09: mattj vs. tennisace Once again, either could take it
VGC 10: Firestorm (C) vs. TDS TDS has been consistently pr. damn good
VGC 11: dtrain vs. B-Lulz so has dtrain
GBU Doubles: Tyler vs. muffinhead and tyler too

JAA: evan (A) vs. DeagleBeagle (C) fuck Deagle, why does he have to be the only one who can play this meta
VGC 09: andrea vs. Danukes Too close to call :/
VGC 10: TTS (C) vs. drcossack <generic anti-sankey comment>
VGC 11: Synre (A) vs. twash Not an activity threat
GBU Doubles: Fishy LOVES DRAGONS OMG vs. Human (A) The Jew with a tude

JAA: Ninahaza vs. Maestrol Well he beat iss, so that counts for something right?
VGC 09: Havak vs. Sixonesix Close game
VGC 10: Evan Falco vs. Fish151PKMN he's been pr. much dominating this tier.
VGC 11: rubeNCB92 vs. The_Wolf Mui Fuerte
GBU Doubles: OmegaDonut (C) vs. Sandman If he's not an activity threat, he'll probablywin

JAA: iss vs. theamericandream38 /me taunts iss
VGC 09: AlphaOmegavs. makiri (C) Fan2win
VGC 10: Cybertron (C) vs. GEC Champizheng
VGC 11: JRank (A) vs. Sapphire Birch We should really have solace in this spot, /me taunts Jrank
GBU Doubles: KingOfKongs vs. Infinity Cypher tbh, we've probably played each other with the exact teams we're going to use against each other 100 times. That isn't hyperbole, we've just played that much. This should be intense, can't wait to play it

Won 2-0.

Game 1 was a real gg. Nothing much to say about it.

Game 2 I won on a last turn double Protect + Quick Claw Selfdestruct.

GGs tad. Sorry about the hax :x

Yeah this >_>

I should really start playing around my opponents getting absurdly lucky, I should have won game 2 regardless but I was overconfident and didn't see his out

yeah got haxed twice by dtrain lol, 1st one i had 100% and quite confident i could have won game 2 without all the luck...oh well ggs man

dtrain, you must be the luckiest Pokemon player alive? Seems every time you post a win it's the same thing. It amuses me to no end.

Really? We're going to do this here? I guess I figured with the tournament mainly being the pretty tight knit VGC group, we might get through without the usual bitching.

The thing with Andrea was Week 5. Both were inactive that week. Yeah, she VM'ed him, Tuesday morning AFTER the deadline at the start of Week 6. He dropped out at the end of Week 6. He was correctly given an activity loss for Week 6 as a result, and the commish had to make a decision from a match two weeks ago where BOTH parties were inactive. Sucky decision to make, but I think he handled it appropriately. Sorry, but after my experiences with running tournaments and having shit flung at me undeservedly, I felt the need to speak up.

That might be a good argument if Duy had actually enforced activity any other week of the entire tournament, but a good fourth of the matches every week happen after the deadline BECAUSE it's the VGC group and people are pretty lax about this shit. One party was willing to play late and the other wasn't. Given the rest of the tournament this is a mind-blowingly bad decision and why even play the tournament at all if the season is potentially decided on shit like this? At least andrea actually tried to get it done. Not fun to put time in and lose weeks to shit like this regardless of who is playing in the event.

Oh man, requisite old man flashback. I am remembering the good times in my old internet days when I would argue with Jumpman in a furious clash of stubbornness that usually got nowhere, until I finally realized they were futile and stopped. Gonna have a throwback moment and continue this little verbal judo with you assuming it will be equally fruitless, just for funsies.

I am going to go out on a limb and assume that had the coin flip gone your way, you wouldn’t be upset at all? I mean, even if it had, you should have been equally morally outraged that it even came to that given the circumstances you outlined. But something tells me that wouldn’t have been the case. This is all irrelevant and theoretical though… Bottom line, sorry you lost the coin flip.

Yes, a lot of matches get done after the deadline. The difference is those matches ultimately get done. There is usually communication during the week the battle is supposed to take place showing at least some effort to finish the battle in a timely fashion, or an intention to see the battle through at all. There didn’t appear to be any in this case. After the deadline sure, one party was willing to play LATE, the other wasn’t. But isn’t that the problem? Neither party expressed any interest in actually doing the match, you know, when it was supposed to be done. All it would have taken is an activity post in the Week 5 thread at ANY point, or sending that VM a day sooner, or whatever the case might be to express a desire to battle during the allotted window. Waiting until the deadline passes to see if you need to even battle (since this format allows your team to win a week without even playing your match) and then seeing “oh, my battle is necessary since we are tied at 2” and only THEN deciding to make a small effort at playing should not be rewarded.

also Spoinks 2nd place

Had the coin flip gone our way I wouldn't have a problem with the result, you're right. I would, however, have a problem with the fact that it needed to be a coinflip. Andrea would have deserved the win not because she would have won the flip, but because she exerted more effort in trying to get a match done. Yes, both were inactive during week 5. However, once you give an extension you are extended the amount of time that must come into consideration. You say you don't want to reward people waiting until a week is done to even think about battling, but the flipside is: do we want to reward people who don't make an effort to get their battle done at all? It's obvious to me that neither is particularly healthy behavior for the tournament but that one is healthier than the other. Andre proved her ability to battle during the extension by playing paul while Havak never responded to her VM and then ultimately dropped out of the tournament.

It's unfortunate that we have to have this conversation, but this decision impacts the future of the GSWartortles' season. It deserves review. If it's a strong decision, Duy will uphold it. If, as I believe, it's a weak decision, it should be revised.

If any extension was formally made, then I agree with you 100% Evan. However, I can't seem to find any mention of an extension being made beyond the October 24th deadline stated in the Week 5 thread. Wasn't that the week the deadline was changed from Sunday to Monday, and in effect that one day was the extension? If that is the case, then the activity you mentioned took place still after even the extended deadline. I am not ruling out the possibility there was an extension for Week 5 into Week 6, but I cannot find any information about such a thing in either the Week 5 or Week 6 threads, so I am continuing to post under the impression no extension was made beyond October 24th.

All that said, it sucks. I just feel bad for Duy because I know how much of a pain in the ass it is to run internet tournaments. Yes, maybe he should have had a detailed outline from the get-go describing the process for when battles aren't completed, but I'd prefer to think we all (instances involving myself included, specifically whoring All-Star week to battle TTS late) could do a better job of getting our stuff done so such things do not become an issue. I just don't think her expressing interest in battling AFTER the deadline should have any relevance in making that decision. Yes, he was flexible before, but when stuff gets excessive like it did starting Week 5 specifically, and even worse in 6, you have to adhere to hard, fast rules to make decisions, which he did.

Also this no longer entertains me so I'm done.
