5th Gen PRNG Help / Info - Latest: RNG Reporter 9.96.5, PPRNG 1.15.0

I do realise that the stupid timer0 keeps shifting around a bit, but I've never been able to use a seed more than once ever.

I am doing everything exactly the same as before, doing "calibration" hatches to see how far the RNG is being advanced so I know how many times to do chatot. But either I'm hitting completely the wrong seed because the timer0 is just being a bitch or its advancing really far, sometimes in excess of 30 or 40 frames. I'm quite sure that can't be just down to the teacher, who is the only NPC in the area I'm aware of that actually advances the RNG, so I have no idea what's changing.

I guess it must just be my timer0 playing up, seeing as I'm now struggling to hit the correct seed with my latest breeding, but that doesn't explain why it's messing up so frequently now, considering I've done countless perfect RNGs with both these carts in the past. :/

are you doing 1 chatot chatter (as verification of your Shifted starting frame)? Maybe you need to rapidly hit the x to bring up the menu screen, once you get in game. Or you may consider calibrating again. Before i was told my timer was C7E, but when i started a new game, i keep getting C7F. so i changed to C7F.

I always rapidly hit X to bring up the menu screen, always. Ironically I get the same two timer0s, C7E and C7F, but from experience C7F is by far my most common one, so I use it when I'm RNGing.

I generally only start checking my seed with chatot chatters once I can safely assume I'm on the right seed, so I've done so less for the times when I've been frame shifted higher, but whenever I have I've gotten a pattern of results matching a set of higher frames on the seed I want.

Do you verify your seed by catching a wild pokemon in victory road, inputting its ivs checking its ivs on pokedex iv checker and matching them with pidrng frames 14-20 on the menu in rng reporter (by changing breeding bw to GEN V IVs standard seed)? That can eliminate the process of hatching eggs. maybe do trials, and if you still don't hit your seed after several attempts you may want to consider changing your timer to C7E. I assume you've already seen this.

edit: you seem to hit higher frames? given that you rapidly hit x, most frames are recommended to be in the 50-60s range.

Thanks for the idea, I'll try that some time, although I think it's quite obvious that's not what I do right now.

Just something I've noticed by the way; apparantly I'm hitting different seeds between whether I press A to load the game or if I tap it with a stylus on the screen. Do we know if that should happen or am I just having rather coincidential luck?

Np. I haven't encountered that, i don't know why you hit different seeds. I suggest that you press A to load the game, and as quoted from voodoo, if you have keypresses, it is better to press them before you press a to load the screen, and if A is part of the keypress/es you should hold a after you press it on the menu.

edit: oh sorry, you check the ivs, using pokedex iv check after you catch something in victory road, as it will give you a fairly decent range to match with those generated in rng reporter. xD!

Ok, in answer to all your edits...

Most of the searches I perform turn out frames in the 50s or 60s, but in the frame shifting instances I'm getting frames around 80ish.

Why would I check the PIDRNG frames 14 - 20? Doesn't the PIDRNG start on a certain frame anyway depending on the seed?

not PID, IV frames. If the pokemon you capture has the IVs from any frame (14-20) that means you hit your seed

Ok... I think I understand...

So I do this when I'm trying to verify I can actually hit the seed or after I've picked up an egg or what? Excuse my lack of knowledge but I've never had to do anything like this before to get it right. :)

you get pid frame 80+ after 1 chatter?

Edit: thanks cereza, ninja'd. xD

after you pick up the egg. if the Ivs match, you can hatch the egg and verify what PID frame you hit..if not..then what for.

Nope, I was getting 80+ after no chatters. When I first start an RNG breed, I do an egg with no chatters to see what effect the teacher might have on advancing the RNG, so then I know about how many times to chatter to get the right frame.

Are you sure? Try chattering once, so you can verify somewhat accurately what you hit. Keep in mind that it would be (target - initial frame) +1 after chattering once. Check ability, gender ratio ..

Argh! Preliminary tests say that my timer0 is fairly even between the two, but its barely in favour of C7F over C7E. Done 12 tests so far, 7 are C7F and 5 are C7E, should I continue to see if one becomes more obvious?

I have done that a fair few times already, which is why I was able to say I see a pattern of higher frames on particular seeds.

I always check ability, gender, nature and IVs to check what frame it is, although I'll admit that's been slightly harder this breed seeing as I've been using an everstone.

then go with c7f, oh i see, try without everstone. Finding ssf is easier imo.

Hold on... is this what the Adjacent Seed tool is for? I just accidently opened it when I was researching for a seed, and it showed frames 14 - 20 for the correct seed, and the seeds 1 second before and after.

If it is then thanks a ton for helping me realise what this tool is actually used for, and for helping me become a better RNGer :D

Seconding trying it without the Everstone. It still won't take long to find a seed unless the parents have garbage IVs, and it makes it a lot easier to tell what frame you landed on.

It's little quirks like this that get me confused...

I've started afresh without an everstone this time, and I was doing the whole capture a pokemon and check its IVs to determine the seed thing.

First egg, I do no chatots and get the right seed, I hatch to find a Modest Lileep, which matches with the frame 7 from the initial.

Second egg, I do one chatot and get the right seed, but it strikes me as odd that I caught exactly the same pokemon when I went to victory road. Turns out when I hatched the egg I got exactly the same Modest Lileep.

I believe I know what's wrong, but its still annoying that it seems to not want to be bred >.<

your initial frame is 7? have you hit the calculate initial pidrng? you should start looking from there.
