Tips and General Information

A Few General EV Training Tips:

  • Pokémon gain EVs whenever they gain experience; if you're not starting with a freshly hatched Pokémon, you'll probably need to reset its EVs with a Reset Bag first.
  • Pokérus doubles the EVs gained per Pokémon defeated.
  • Macho Brace doubles the EVs gained per Pokémon defeated.
  • Power items add +4 in a specific stat to the EVs gained per Pokémon defeated.
  • With Exp. Share ON, all Pokémon in the party gain EVs.
A Few Horde EV Training Tips:
  • Using Sweet Scent or Honey initiates a Horde battle 100% of the time on the routes listed below.
  • Common Sweet Scent Pokémon include Combee (Route 4) and Bulbasaur (Pokémon Lab).
  • Sweet Scent Horde battles will not activate on rainy routes.
  • If it is currently raining on a route you were going to use for EV training, choose another route from the list below.
  • To defeat all five Pokémon in one turn, use a powerful Pokémon with a move that hits all opponents.
  • Common choices include Pokémon with Surf, Parabolic Charge Heliolisk, and Petal Blizzard Venusaur.
  • You gain EVs for each Pokémon defeated in battle. In Horde battles, you gain a total of five times the regular EVs.
  • Power item, Macho Brace, and Pokérus boosts are applied to each Pokémon defeated.
  • With Exp. Share ON, a Pokémon who does not participate in battle can gain additional EVs by equipping the aforementioned EV-boosting items.
An Explanation of Horde EV Math:
  • The total number of EVs gained from defeating every Pokémon in a Horde Battle can be found at the end of each line below.
  • Pokérus doubles the total EV gain per Horde Battle.
  • Macho Brace doubles the total EV gain per Horde Battle.
  • Power Items add four EVs per Pokémon defeated.
  • All multipliers are cumulative (e.g., Pokérus + Macho Brace = 4*EVs).

You rock! I was working on something like this on my own today, but didn't know the frequencies.

However, I suggest listing all of the stats (HP, etc.) and the optimal place to train at the top of the post.

I don't think the average player quite grasps just how amazing this is. Thanks so much.

Do you mind if we repost these around the interwebs with all credit to you?

I'm in class but can someone confirm if Carbink is one special defense / one defense or two of each? I know it gives both, just not how many of each. I don't think any Pokemon gives four, so it is probably one of each.

because of the way the exp share works now, could I for example; turn exp share on, give X a power bracer, put it in the back of the party, have Y at the front of the party and kill a horde of Axew, Y get 1 attack EV and X get 5? Or does X still have to fight to get the EV's from the power bracer?

EDIT: immediately after posting this I realised this doesn't make sense

Potentially dumb question: Is there any normal patch of grass on Route 19 that can initiate horde battles? I kept trying Sweet Scent and Honey in the flower fields but they failed.

Edit: I think that initiating horde battles fails when late at night. Not sure.

Orange Islands
Combee or Ivysaur both learn it via level up iirc... Combee is probably easier to get (Route 4 Wild encounter) unless you picked Bulba at sycamores lab or have one through a friend safari :)

Can anyone tell me how to trigger horde battles?

I know it's with Honey and Sweet Scent, but how is it done?

Single-stat (5 EV) Horde battles yield 50 EVs per battle with Pokérus and the appropriate Power item equipped.
Single-stat (10 EV) Horde battles yield 60 EVs per battle with Pokérus and the appropriate Power item equipped.
I see only 5 EVs for each listing. Where does the 10 come from?

Apologize in advance, sort of getting back into the game after a while.

I need a double confirmation on this

I think now mareep give 1 Speed EV instead of SpAtk ...Tried earlier today but It dint give SpA at all

And also farm SpA in Frost cavern at the eeveelution rock area somehow give more smoochum den cubchoo to me.

If you fight a horde of Axew, they all give 1 Attack EV, so you get 5 per battle (5x1). If you fight a horde of Weepinbell, who give 2 Attack EVs each, you get 10 (5x2). There aren't any hordes with Pokemon that give 3 EVs on any stat, but if there were, you would get 15...
