Welcome to the ADV Other Metas Hub!
ADV OM is a collection of various modded variants of ADV that has been more established in newer gens, but has begin to see more play with the growing popularity of ADV at large. The purpose of this thread is to introduce players to ADV's exciting Other Metagames and foster further growth for ADV. ADV OMs are a bit different from OMs that exist in later gens. Here is a full list of mechanics that are specific to ADV;
- Lack of Physical/Special Split - Whether a move is physical or special is entirely dependent on the move's type. An easy way to remember is that all of the Eeveelutions typings + Dragon are special attacking moves, while the rest are physical attacking moves. For certain Pokemon, this can be very limiting offensively when their dominant attacking stat does not match their STAB-type. Other Pokemon, like Salamence and Tyranitar benefit greatly from the lack of a Physical and Special split and function well as Mixed-Attackers in ways they never really do in later gens.
- End Of Turn - Turns end as soon as a Pokemon faints which allows for some interesting scenarios. Using Explosion to deny your opponent a turn or sacking a Pokemon to Spikes. This also means that the Pokemon being switched in will still take passive damage to Sandstorm, Burn, and Poison.
- Offensive Tidbits - ADV is limited in regards to outputting damage compared to later Gens. A smaller selection of Held Items limits both offensive and defensive options. Damage boosting items are limited to Choice Band, Stat-boosting Berries, and Type-based items like Charcoal that boosts Fire-type attacks and Magnet that boost Electric-type attacks. Additionally, many Pokemon lack strong STAB moves resulting on reliance on Hidden Power reducing coverage. Other Pokemon suffer from their Type's STAB not match their dominant offensive stat. Gyarados for example, as it cannot take advantage of its stellar Attack stat through Water-type moves like Waterfall and also needs to decide between running Hidden Power Flying or Hidden Power Rock.
- Critical Hits - A critical hit will ignore the Defense boost of your opponent and ignore any of your own offensive stat drops. (Damage with a critical hit will have a 4× modifier.)
This thread aims to foster discussion, and keep a well documented list of Gen 3 OMs and other modified unofficial formats Due to being such an explored and untested mix of formats, there are plenty of things to discover in ADV OM! Please, feel free to join the Discord to discuss these fun formats!

Gen 3+
Gen 3+ is a unique format where mons from Gen 4-9 that are related to Gen 1-3 mons in any way are added to the ADV metagame. This means no later Gen items, Abilities, moves, or mechanics are included, making the mons somewhat stripped down. Illuminate is given to mons with no Gen 3 Ability, and Normal type replaces Fairy. Megas are usable without Mega Stones. Also of note is tradebacks moves are given to Gen 1-3 mons.

Hoenn Gaiden
Hoenn Gaiden is a Gen 3 pet mod that aims to devamp Gen 4-9 Pokemon, moves and items into the Gen 3 mechanics, while also buffing weaker Pokemon from Gen 3 to create a unique, but still distinctly Gen 3, metagame. It is a Pet Mods format centred around gen 3 battle mechanics, and it is loosely based off of the tier of ADV OU as a reference point. Because of this, Hoenn Gaiden is a tier which strongly resembles ADV OU, but with some key notable additions + minor changes. Hoenn Gaiden, on top of its gen 3 engine, provides access to new custom content, such as buffed gen 3 Pokemon, later generation Pokemon, and even buffed later generation Pokemon. There are also a small few notable new attacks and new items as well that have been added to the mod as bonus content.

ADV Tradebacks
ADV Tradebacks is a what-if scenario where NatDex Pokemon can be traded back to Gen 3 to use moves and abilities they learn later, if those moves and abilities exist in Gen 3. This means stuff like Sacred Fire Entei and Superpower Tyranitar is now legal.
