Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I've laddered for about 3 years by now, still I don't think I got it as I can't even reach 1500. In the mean time I played some undevelopped other metagames for a while and turns out it doesnt help with this in any ways. Considerable tournament includes a unoffical team tour where I got a 0-7 record on the gen 5 ou slot, which I have ladder for like half a year at the time.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): used to play bw a lot, now play dpp. i like to build my own teams and is my main draw to the game; i can usually climb ladder pretty decent. ive done all the tours i could since i started some months ago and got some wins with sample teams & my own, but i definitely would appreciate additional guidance for how to build viable teams and navigate the new meta post-bans. goal is to make it into dpp pl sooner rather than later

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences):
I've been playing casually since SM's release, but I'm very new to the competitive scene. I've been recently laddering a lot in SV casually at around 1800 elo, and I'm looking to broaden my experience across other generations too. My experience across all 3 gens is pretty limited as I haven't been playing nearly as much then as now, and my goal is to be able to play well in tournaments in the future too. Definitely willing to put in a ton of time.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I feel like I understand the aspects of high level comp but don't have the niche knowledge to really push myself into PL territory. I've been a part of various PL teams for different formats including being a sub during RoA, but I want to actually excel in OU.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I used to play in 2021-2023 in a very casual way without any intention of competing in tournaments, but i started playing mons again and start taking it seriously around 6 or 7 (lmao not pun intended) months ago, mainly playing SVOU, LC and VGC formats in some lower stakes individual and team tournaments. I'm currently trying to get into ORAS and SM since i played these tiers casually on ladder and with some friends and i finded them very fun and interesting.
I also want to improve at GSC and BW since i tried to get into those tiers but without any serious results at the moment

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I laddered quite a bit in gen 4 about 15 years ago (so Shoddy Battle/Pokemon Online days). I peaked around the top 20ish in gen4 UU ladder but never played tournaments. I have barely played for a long time, besides some irregular returns to gen3/4 playing OU with sample teams and a lot of randbats. I want to get into RBY OU and started playing on the ladder. I am rated 1395 as of writing. I am still often making a couple blunders per game (picking an obviously dominated move that I pick up on reviewing the replay) but I'm really enjoying the game and keen to learn.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Despite only starting my journey a year ago, I have played some formats (primarly rby) and I want to get good at RBY OU. I know the RBY basics and mechanics, I now just need to actually apply them. Ive placed top 500 on RBY rands ladder and finished top 8 in the RBY rands open as an example of my experience.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): I played on-and-off for years but recently I've been playing for a year now. I use to be 1300+ in this format but now at 1000 because of a chain of losing streaks everytime I hop on and I'm at a loss of what to do.

Welcome to Battling 101! If you're seeking a tutor for Old Gens OU, you are in the right place. Please read all the rules carefully and fill out every part of the application.

Available Formats:
SS OU, SM OU, XY OU, BW OU, DPP OU, ADV OU, GSC OU, RBY OU

THE RULES

  • You must be able to access Discord, or whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
  • You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown! even if you are being tutored in a cartridge format such as Battle Spot or VGC.
  • You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
    • This is not a strict requirement meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential Tutees.
  • You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for the format you sign-up for; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand.
  • You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
  • Use the Tutee Talk forum to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). These are no longer mandatory, but if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is a complete jackass, COMPLAIN HERE. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the Battling 101 Staff; everything is confidential.
  • Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be moved to the Inactive Posts thread, and can be returned back to this thread by request.
  • Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from B101. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!
Here is the signup template, and an example sign-up post.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): This year represents the 2nd SCL I haven't played in out of 4 total I've signed up for, and it has led me to the realization that being just an SV2/SV3 quality player is not enough to reliably get picked up as a starter every year, just because current-gen OU is so crowded with talent. With this in mind, and SPL as the next teamtour on the horizon, I've decided my best course of action is to diversify my skill-set by getting really good at my favourite oldgen OU, DPP. I have had a couple of seasons going positive in DPPPL, and my best performance in a DPP indiv is Top 16 of DPP Cup, so I already know the basics of the format. Instead, the focus and what I want to get out of this tutoring is to reach an SPL caliber of gameplay and tier knowledge within the next few months to make myself more complete as a player. I am willing to put in the work to achieve this goal and would like an experienced coach to help me in the process.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Been around the competitive community for a couple years, mostly lurking. I have some experience w/ SV OU (peaked 1600 ish) and SM OU (don't remember peak) and joined a couple tours for SM and SV, winning a handful of rounds. I've joined about 5 draft leagues, mostly SV. I want to get better at mons in general, and SM seems like a really fun format.

hi ive been playing pokemon for a quite a while. i struggle with thinking before i click and often find my self overpredicting way too much , or things like failing to utilise my wincon effectively etc. Ive played a bit of oras and sm and they are fun tiers but i cant teambuild properly so find myself relying on others team.It would be really helpful if someone could teach me how to grasp the essentials of using your brain in the game. (Thanks for reading the slop XD)

I started playing super casually about 9-10 years ago way back in middle school, and kept playing on and off until now. The main formats I’ve played in the past few years have been Gen 8/9 DUU, and Gen 3 and 4 OU.

In the past month or so I’ve really gotten back into Gen 3 OU and I’ve been laddering like crazy, but I can’t seem to break past ~1400 ELO and I’d really like help getting better and break past my plateau(s).
