I haven't played competitively since before Platinum came out. I stopped playing right when Garchomp got banned from Standard play. Any other big controversies happen (a la Garchomp)? I'd appreciate it if someone filled me in on what I missed out.
 
I don't know if this question has been asked or not (there are, after all, 88 pages in this thread), but in what ways can you earn a badge?

FAQ. It's not as simple as "Do X, achieve badge," so don't be hellbent on trying to earn one.

Latias is OU, platinum introduced some new forms/movepools/mechanics, and there was some controversy over Shaymin-S' tier position (ultimately uber).
 
Latias is OU but no Latios? That seems odd to me. Does anyone mind explaining the impact of the new Rotoms on the metagame? I've noticed a decent amount of these new Rotom forms on Shoddy and I know nothing about them.

So Shaymin and/or Shaymin-S are uber? That'd be a relief for me.

What are some of the Suspect pokemon now (IIRC suspect meant they were being tested for bans)?

Latias is a lot more manageable with a lower special attack stat. Rotoms are one of the most OU Pokemon. Add the forms together and they're 13th.

Shaymin is Limbo (UU but up for UU suspect testing), while Shaymin-S is uber.

Stage 3 is going on right now, so Garchomp, Latios, Latias, Manaphy, and Shaymin-S are all in the OU metagame for the Suspect Ladder. Deo-S was found Uber by even the mods.

Are there any moves, outside of Metronome, Assist and Sleep Talk, that allow a Pokemon to use a second move in the same turn? (This is in reference to the latest riddle posted in the Pokemon riddle thread, by the way.)
 
on a sleep-talking snorlax, should I use persuit over crunch? I know I'd be trading power, but this way, I'd get the chance to hit a fleeing gengar or starmie

Well Pursuit loses it's Priority when you use sleep talk, making it much less effective when asleep. I would keep Crunch.

Suspect Research thread? Uh...there's a research thread and a suspect thread, don't know what you mean if it's neither of those.

Oh, and Scizor started absolutely dominating the OU tier since platinum, rapidly becoming the most broken pokemon around.
 
if I use Detect, and then Protect, and then continue this way, would I have a fail-safe way of never getting hit?

Oh, and every scizor always has exactly the same moves. They're SO PREDICTABLE.

To an extent, usually only SD and CB Scizors are used, but I've seen Life Orb, Screen Support, Rain Dance and *sigh* Special-based Scizor, with all but the last option being quite successful.

You mean moves that use other moves? There's Mirror Move and Copycat.
 
I have a Sassy Claydol.

What should the EV spread be on it?

I was planning to use these moves, or something like it, anyway:

-Explosion
-Earthquake
-Stealth Rock
-Reflect/Light Screen


I would assume I would just use the Careful natured spread?
 
With the imminent arrival of HG/SS, is there really much point in me keeping and playing through Colosseum still?

And also, is it possible to use breeding incenses and an everstone in the same breeding situation? Like, they don't both need to be held by the mother, do they?

Putting incense on the dad works. Same with Light Ball for Volt Tackle Pichu.
 
If you attach an everstone to a female pokemon and breed it with a ditto, do the normal effects of the everstone (50% chance of the egg hatching with the same nature as the female) still apply?

Yes,it applies,and the nature passed on would be the Ditto's
 
What are the mechanics for bounce? As in, why do I sometimes avoid the hit on the first turn? Is it an evasion boost or is there are a set chance of being hit?
