Dr. Eyepatch: So further deduction would say that while ROM saves are looked down upon explicitly, those sort of hacks or slot-2 devices are the norm? Or just sticking to in-game hacks, wifi tricks, etc? I'm just trying to get a hold on the norms of the community :) Would it be more likely that someone would, say, catch a Dialga and then hack the IVs, or RNG sync to get the ones they want? Or neither, and just soft-reset until the cows come home?

a few problems are that draco meteor doesnt enjoy good coverage with any of jirachi's stab moves, along with the 10% less accuracy, no 20% chance to freeze, and it becomes very weak after one use, I just don't see draco meteor being too useful.
The only use is for countering any DD kingdra, the jirachi has to be scarfed, or physically bulky for it to work as well.

Ice Punch doesn't hit steels hard either. . . I think it needs some testing.

I will not say I understand much, but I will tell you what I do know.
In-game hacks for items are normal. Some also use cheats such as Quick Egg Hatch, while others frown upon it. Everyone frowns upon hacking IVs, so most people soft-reset. RNG synching seems also to have become popular.
In summary, some things are accepted, others are not, and some are things about which people have mixed feelings. Mostly, one can use their better judgement to figure which is which.
I think that's reasonable. I have 4 copies of Gen IV games at this point, so I could theoretically keep wiping my wife's old copy of Diamond to get items over and over. The duping of those same items seems less egregious to me. The plain soft-reset seems the most genuine, RNG is meh (plus it seems like a LOT more grunt work for a video game), and the nice thing about soft-reset is that if I end up not caring anymore or get bored, I can simply stop and do it later without feeling like I've lost out on tons of work.

I use Shoddy Battle for that, lol. But, there probably is some online Hidden Power calculator that isn't Serebii's that I don't know.

Yes, except in the case of the Ditto being different nationality than your game (for example a German Ditto in your US game).
It's not your game's nationality that counts, it's both parents. If both Ditto and the other Pokemon are both German, they'll still work on a US game. They'll just have US kids, and they won't be able to Everstone breed with their parents because the parent is German and the baby is American.

When are the stats/natures/etc. set for the Legendary Birds in Platinum? Is there any way to influence them?
I want to mention I want to abuse Water Spiut and other of Wailord's great movepool without wasting EVs on it's poor speed (IMO) and wasting that fantastic 170 base HP.
Water Spout AND Hydro Pump? At least use Surf if you want another Water move. Is this on a Hail team or not? IMO, use an attack which provides more type-coverage, STAB is not the most important thing in moves.
So my question does not fade into obscurity...
