Thank you. I think I have a decent team planned out for it now. I'll put it up in RMT once I tweak things a little more

New question: I'm trying to breed a Treecko. I am locked onto a Timid Male right now. I am trying to breed it so it has 31/x/30+/30+/30+/31, using parents that have 31/31/31/31/31/x and 31/31/31/31/x/x. I do not have access to Heart Gold or Soul Silver, so I can't lock any IVs. The probability program only covers 31 and 0 to 30, so I can't use it to find out. So, what would the probability be?

To help make it easier:

Parent 1: 31/31/31/31/31/x
Parent 2: 31/31/31/31/x/x

Bred on Platinum

Chances of getting a spread of 31/x/30+/30+/30+/31 = ?

For comparison's sake, you can also include the odds if it was done in Heart Gold/Soul Silver with the parents holding a Power Weight and a Power Bracer, but it is not needed

Just reposting my question. I remember past simple question threads allowing it, so I don't see it not being allowed now

Read the OP.

"7. This is already in the Smogon and Stark forum rules, but I will reiterate again do not discuss ROMs or other illegal things. Also, don't ask for AR codes here. Use google for that. "

So I'm not sure Smogon allows it.

But (to my knowledge; IANAL) emulation is not illegal despite what the console manufacturers may try to say. (They of course have a vested interest, since emulators compete with their consoles). It is possible to obtain ROMs legitimately.

We really need a mods word on this though. I think I have come across a previous mention that discussion of emulation is OK, but I can't find out now. This should probably be clarified in the simple questions OPs IMHO.

Calculate the value for with 31s, then multiply it by 35/32, to take account the chance of getting an otherwise identical spread except with a random 30 IV. The chance of getting more than 1 30 IV is so small that I think you can neglect it.

I may produce an accurate analyses, but the calculations are a real PITA.

can a specially defensive Empoleon be a decent Counter to specially based grass pokemon? in particualr, roserade and sceptile? (especially specs roserade and sceptile)

Not really.

A Leaf Storm from a 252 Timid Choice Specs Roserade will inflict between 63.7% - 75.3% to a 252/252 Calm Empoleon. After the Special Attack drop, 31.7% - 37.9%. Combined with prior Stealth Rock Damage, the chance for a 2HKO is guaranteed.

Even with max HP and SpDef, Empoleon's taking 63-75% from a specs Roserade Leaf Storm. If Roserade lacks Leaf Storm however, it can't do much - even HP ground fails to 2HKO. Sceptile is in a similar situation, though with less power.
The thing is, you can't OHKO with Ice Beam with no SpA EVs.
So I'm not sure it's going to work that well.

lovely...there goes that idea. trying to build a mono water team, and i have the weaknesses pretty much covered...except for roserade and sceptile. can anyone make any suggestions as to what water can do that...decently well?

Does your team have to contain 6 Water types?

Won't a specially defensive Gyarados work?

Quite commonly 'mono-type' teams have one 'wildcard' that's not of the given type. Since I think general experience has been that it makes the team a lot more viable.

Roserade will need Specs to have a chance to 2HKO Calm 252 HP / 136 Sp Def Tentacruel with Leaf Storm. If it's 252 HP 252 Sp Def Calm Tentacruel, then even Specs Roserade will need to roll max damage twice, with stealth rock (or other prior damage) to 2HKO with Leaf Storm, assuming Tentacruel's holding leftovers, of course.

EDIT: Mantine takes Leaf Storm even better, by a wee bit.

I just checked, and less than 7% of Roserade carry Specs. Based on the stats, you can expect to encounter a Specs Roserade about once in every 300 battles. Specs Sceptile is a similar frequency. In other words, if you have no good way of dealing with them, just ignore them.

Gyarados has the same base sp.def as empoleon and only 10 more base hp. gyarados is in the same boat, from my point of view.

as far as the wildcard goes...ill look into that.

choice band cloyster can KO back with ice shard. If youo are really that worried just hand something a focus sash and use priority (beware of sceptile quick attack). Otherwise, just ignore them

Has there ever been a DPP / HGSS tournament that only allowed Pokemon from the original 151? (Would be a sure way for Dragonite to get out of Sala's shadow at least for a little while.)

How on Earth do you counter Kingdra in the rain?

Special Kingdra = Blissey can either Toxic it and stall it out with Softboiled/ Wish - Protect. If Kingdra has Substitute, then Blissey can Seismic Toss. Snorlax fairs okay too.

Physical Kingdra = Celebi does a good job at it. It can KO in return with Leaf Storm. Just don't let Kingdra get to many DD's up.

Mixed Kingdra = I usually use bulky pokemon like Metagross to take it out. It can take at least on hit and use Explosion (no Kingdra can survive it). Empoleon is also a good counter since it resists Kingdra's two STAB moves (Outrage - Draco Meteor/ Hydro Pump - Waterfall).

Of course Tyranitar and Abomasnow can come in to stop the rain.

Specially Defensive Tentacruel survives two Leaf Storms in a row without problems. However his Ice Beam lacks power to seriously hurt Roserade or Sceptile. However as a check I can see it working.

The Subseed set for Sceptile says I should have
216 HP / 40 SpA / 252 Spe as the Ev spread
Is the HP Evs for 30 Hp Iv or 31? Or doesn't it make a difference?

EDIT: I also don't want 23 Ivs in HP for 5 subs ;).
