Alright here goes. I did click the link in the OP about movesets but it says its no longer valid.
So. Long story short, I am creating a dragon team to be used as a Gym Leader in a pokemon league up here in Alaska. I can't use legendaries and they have to be dragons (so no charizard). I figured out a team and used movesets from Smogon but I am just wondering if my final move selection is...good. I know dragon has a weakness to ice, and being a gym leader and all people are suppose to be able to beat me but I want to just make sure I am not gimping my team because one pokemon has a horrid set up.
1.) Flygon: Toxic, Roost, Fireblast, Earthquake
- I like the Idea of having a pokemon with Toxic to help against people that stall, plus it can cause switching. It lacks dragon attacks though, roost seems nice. This is called the Toxic Stall spec on Smogon.
2.) Altaria: Dragon Claw/Aerial Ace, Roost, Heal Bell, Perish Song/Haze/Roar
- This is called Support in Smogon and I liked the idea of having a pokemon with heal bell. Altaria doesn't seem to be a very offensively strong dragon so the more defensive roll seems better. I am not sure about using Aerial ace over dragon claw, and can't decide about the last spot. The argument was made mostly for Perish Song, since if its down to the opponents last poke and he/she is a wall then it would pretty much end it.
3.) Kingdra: Unsure.
- Kingdra is a tough one for more. I actually like the pokemon and he was the first one that I went over moves for. Initially I picked one of the rain dance specs on smogon such as Rain Dance, Dragon Dance, Waterfall, and Outrage. The only issue I found later is that SEVERAL pokemon specs I picked/looked at (such as flygons) uses a fire move. Rain Dance lasts 5 turns and with Swift Swim makes Kingdra fast, but it would hinder my fights against Grass types or Ice types who would take less damage from my fire because of it. I am really unsure of what to do for him.
4.) Garchomp: Sword Dance, Outrage / Dragon Claw, Earthquake/Crunch, Stone Edge / Fire Fang.
- This is called Sword Dance on Smogon and looked to be the strongest one barring the use of berries and stuff (which I don't want to deal with). I added the possibility of a Crunch since several of my pokemon have Earthquake already and it would be nice against ghosts.
5.) Dragonite: Unsure but possibly Draco Meteor, Fire Blast/Thunder Bolt, Extreme Speed, Earthquake OR Outrage, Earthquake/Water fall, Fire punch, Extreme Speed.
- Dragonite really depends on the others. Looking at the specs he can cover quite a bit of rolls. The first spec is called "Attacking Lead" and the second is "Choice Band" which as its name implies, uses a choice band. I don't know if I like the idea of being stuck into using one move though. I did add Thunder Bolt to the first spec (its not there on smogon) just as possibly something to counter a water type pokemon since they are more common then ice and usually have 1 ice move.
6.) And finally...Salamence: ???
- I'm up in the air about this guy. Both of his specs on Smogon are meant for him to be played with the mighty green snake lizard, which I can't have on my team. So what do I do with this guy? Possibly Dragon Claw, Earthquake, Thunder Fang, Crunch? I am really at a loss here.
So that is it. That is my team. I would really appreciate any and all help regarding moves. I am VERY new to the whole online fighting and while I won't be using this team much outside of "Gym Battles" I do want to make it as good as it can be. I am unsure about using Kingdra with rain dance because several pokemon use fire moves and I am at a loss with Salamence. So yeah...any help would be appreciated. :)
P.S. If I should have posted my own thread about this let me know and I will delete this and do so. I am unsure of where to put this but I really would like help on it. Just want to make sure I am on the right track before I invest a lot of time into breeding this team. :x
