Ask a simple question, get a simple answer - mark 24 (READ THE OP)

I am trying to use RNG abuse to catch a near flawless Azelf on Platinum, but appear to be having problems with my target frame. The target frame for my spread and seed is 237. According to the RNG abuse guide Azelf has a monster frame of 1 and my only wandering poke is Mesprit. This leaves me with 235 required frame advancements, or 115 journal flips and 128 steps with 5 poke's in my party. After hitting my seed I performed these actions and caught Azelf but did not get the nature and IVs that I wanted so I checked which frame I hit using RNG Reporter.

The frame I actually hit was 244. So I tried to do some testing to see if this was a repeating and predictable difference. Without trying to hit my seed I simply SR, flip through a constant number of journal pages, capture Azelf, and then check the frame that was hit. Note that the date, time, and number of journal flips does not change between tests. However, the frame that I am hitting is constantly changing. I've read that your starting frame can change depending on your situation. Is that the case here, and if so can I expect the same 237 to 244 offset when I do hit my seed?

Much appreciated!

After again hitting my RNG seed, to account for the 7 frame difference discussed above I performed 114 journal flips, assuming a starting frame of 7, so that the frame would advance to 235 and ultimately to my target of 237. Again I did not get the nature and IV spread that I wanted and upon performing the seed check with RNG Reporter, the seed was confirmed but my frame offset was 349. Am I missing something here? With 114 journal flips that would imply a starting frame of 119...

I have been using a Gyarados on this team, but due to the nature of often times letting SR get up, I'd like to get a different set-up sweeper with some defense...TTar's Sandstream hurts Azelf, but if it gets hit it dies anyway. Will SS hurt Pory2's bulk too much or should I got for it anyway?

Due to Recover, I think that with leftovers negating sandstorm life removal, tyranitar's ability won't hurt porygon2 too much. But if porygon2 dies too often, then you might find that you'll like leftovers recovery.

In regards to using a setup-setup lead like Jumpman16's We Jammin' Mesprit for the Battle Tower, why use Mesprit? On his team it makes sense because Mesprit is only weak to Dark, Ghost, and Bug, two of those being resisted by Drapion. But why use Mesprit over Uxie in his case? Uxie is not only faster but also bulkier.

Either way, I'm going to make my main sweeper a pure Water type, so Latios appeals to me over Uxie, but those are my two candidates. I decided not to go with Mismagius, Gardevoir/Gallade, and Drifblim. Which would work better as a lead? And is this a good lead? Latios has better typing, more HP, and more Speed, but Uxie has much better Defense and better Special Defense. Keep in mind this is Latios not Latias.

Movesets:
Latios
Choice Scarf
Calm
0 Atk
252 HP 88 Spe 168 Def
Thunder Wave

or

Uxie
Choice Scarf
Bold
0 Atk 26 SpA
252 HP 208 Spe 48 SpD

Stats:
Latios
364 HP
166 Attack
238 Defense
278 Speed
296 Special Attack
281 Special Defense

Uxie
354 HP

325 Defense
278 Speed
186 Special Attack

Thoughts? Suggestions? Improvements? I'm very inexperienced when it comes to the Battle Tower so any help is appreciated

How come the Suicune analysis doesn't mention a set like this?

Surf
Ice Beam / Hidden Power [Electric]
Calm Mind
Rest

Would this set not be viable?

It could end up being setup bait for a Swords Dance or Dragon Dance user, Sleep Talk is just more practical usually in terms of Rest

Got a Question about Heatran

Been Soft Resetting Heatran for about 30-40 mins, looking for a choice scarfer (preferrably Naive nature), and i finally got one that was Naive and Alert to sounds. I'm assuming that it has a 31 IV in speed, which is great or so it seems (should be important for a choice scarf set to have max speed even though its originally slow right?).

I'm wondering how I can tell wether or not the other stats are 31 in IVs without lvl 100 wifi battling (because then id have to save and then I wouldnt have the option to reset if it wasn't what i wanted). Can anyone tell from his stats if he has decent IVs for competitive battling as a choice scarf heatran?

Here are his stats:

Level 70
Naive
Alert to Sounds

HP 209/209
Attk 140
Def 173
Sp.Atk 208
Sp.Def 139
Speed 147

feedback on how heatran stands in this meta, preferred movesets, and teammates (putting him with a lifeorb starmie, which will be my lead atm) is much appreciated too, thanks.

I've been wanting to get into the double's metagame.

The questions I wanna ask is, what is banned there, apart from the obvious 680 base stats ubers etc.
Are pokemon like garchomp, latias, shaymin-sky banned? If they are, why are they, isnt double's metagame a completely different play to singles? rtm

Oh I always wonder about this, is bright power banned in competitive battling, I've seen a few people list it in their rtm.

To combat entry hazards, why use Rapid Spin? It gets blocked by ghosts. Defog removes hazards and Screens, along with Mist and Safeguard, and isn't blocked by anything. Aside from a limited number of learners of defog and no damage, can someone explain to me why Spin is used more?

Would it be considered to be breaking the evasion clause (since it lowers target evasion by 1 stage)?

If you didn't ev train, you just need to insert his stats and the calc will do the rest.

Brightpowder? It isn't banned. I think that the double metagame is the same as the single. Same rules with Ubers, OU, UU, ...

no it removes the stealth rocks/spikes on the enemys side thus the ones you laid down, not the one on your side that are damaging you pokemon.
And afaik evasion Clause only affects evasion boosting moves like double team(the evasion boost from accupressure is allowed because its totally random)

It's Lv70, so you can get an accurate reading of it's IVs if you enter them into an IV calculator.

Here, I did it for you:

Heatran - #485 (Naïve)
HP: 3
Att: 13 - 14
Def: 28 - 29
SpA: 30 - 31
SpD: 3
Speed: 31

The following Hidden Power Types are possible:
Dark, Dragon, Electric, Grass, Ice, Water

The following Hidden Power Attack Powers are possible:
66, 67

So yeah, your Heatran does have flawless speed. It may have flawless Sp.Atk too, and good defense. HP and Sp.Def are a let down however. But it's still quite nice when taking into consideration you haven't spent long SRing and haven't RNG abused. Also if it has Hidden Power Grass/Ice, that'd be a plus.

I would like to know about the HG/SS Battle Tower IV checker NPC near the PC (I read about it somewhere but lost the source).
The first part he talks about is the total IV of a Pokémon. The second part about the highest IV in one stat.
If I have 3 flawless stats, does the NPC randomly pick a stat to talk about meaning I have to talk to him multiply times? Or does he talk about the flawless stat in order so I only need to speak to him 3 times max?

He only cycles through in order in HGSS so you only need to speak to him ~4 times to verify that he does loop after the 3rd flawless.

In Platinum he does it randomly so you'll have to do it multiple times.

*sighs*
How does this look? Tyranitar, Rotom, and Heatran are powerful sweepers when coupled with my defensive core of Celebi, Milotic, and Skarmory... Since Skarmory is SO physically defensive, I believe that Milotic should run a calm nature with either max hp + defense or max hp + special defense... Either way, this team has multiple resistances to every type but rock, which it has no weakness to anyway. Help me fine tune it before I go away in four days!

Lead-Celebi- Stealth Rock, Leaf Storm, U-turn, Hidden Power Fire
Subtran Heatran- Fire Blast, Earth Power, Substitute, Roar--I'm considering Explosion or Hidden Power Ice over Roar... what say you?
Skarmory- Spikes, whirlwind, roost, brave bird.
Rotom H- Shadow Ball, Thunder Bolt, Overheat, Trick
Tyranitar- Stone Edge, Crunch, Pursuit, Superpower
Milotic- Surf, Ice Beam, Rest, Sleep Talk

This isn't competitive is it? But with Thick Fat on Miltank, it really doesn't matter what your last Pokémon is, but I personally wouldn't use a Gliscor/Garchomp/Dragonite/Salamence/Altaria or Abomasnow/Parasect.

But really, Scizor is only weak to Fire which is resisted by Slowking, Flygon, and Miltank. Slowking is weak to Grass which is resisted by Scizor, it is also weak to Electric which is ineffective to Flygon, it is also weak to Ghost which is ineffective to Miltank and resisted by Scizor, it is also weak to Dark which is resisted by Scizor. Miltank is weak to Fighting which is resisted by Slowking and Gallade. Flygon is weak to Ice which is resisted by Scizor, Slowking, and Miltank, it is also weak to Dragon which is resisted by Scizor. Gallade is weak to Flying which goes unresisted and it is also weak to Ghost which is resisted by Scizor and ineffective to Miltank.

I think that covers it

Yeah. I am playing competitive. And before you ask, no I don't really plan to change Miltank or Slowking. I sort of despise using just OUs in my team as it gets redudant and boring.

But yeah, I wrote down all the weaknesses and who covers who. And yup, it did leave me to the, 'who can take Flying hits the most'. And does flying attacks occur often, besides the obvious Paraflinch user. Which I have Miltank for and/or Flygon.

I am about 50/50 on the terms of people using Flying moves often in OU, but I would like to hear more opinions.

I want my raikou to have hp ice but every time I go and save the team it switches back to hp dragon, how do I fix this?

Not bad, but first which t-tar are you using CB or scarf? Next, you should use a specially defensive milotic, and next try swapping celebi and skarmory and try the tinkerbell set for celebi.

, and next try swapping celebi and skarmory and try the tinkerbell set for celebi.

Celebi is a good lead but I think you should use Earth power over HP fire and give it Occa Berry. with this it can beat Infernape and Heatran 100% of the time barring crits.

Thanks for the answer Scepticallistic!

Should I keep this Seadra (mixed swiftswim Kingdra)?
Poison Point
IV
Hp 26-28
Att 31
Def 5-7
Sp Att 31
Sp Def 18
Spe 20-22

Flawless Speed isn't a concern for me.
