Raw usage is the amount of games a pokemon was used in a team. Real usage is the amount of games in which they were sent out. I'm pretty sure tiering is based on raw usage
 
Where can I find an official definition of a "randomized meta"?
I know it seems obvious - teams are randomly generated rather than created by the player - but what about Metronome Battle?
 
When using /buildformat, is it possible to modify individual mon's learnset without blanket making everything legal with !ObtainableMoves? For example, if I wanted to give Tyranitar Sucker Punch in SVOU but keep everything else in the format identical to SVOU, is it possible to do that on the Showdown site?
 
I want to download a lot of pokemon showdown replays for a personal programming project. If I use a pyautogui script to do that, would there be any sort of bot detection?
 
I have a custom CAP tier I built with ~30 other people and wanted to hold a money tour to introduce people to the tier. Since people are no longer able to register a server with Smogon, I am wondering if something of that sort would be allowed on Forums, and if so, where could a thread be made? It's based out of National Dex OU just with an addition of 62 CAP creations vetted by an experienced council. Would it be possible to coordinate with the NDOT moderators to host in that area? If the answer is simply no since it's not on an officially recognized server I understand. Thanks!
 
Why don't they bann wonder guard from Pure hackomons, it's very annoying as trainers make their team's every Pokemon with that ability. I think they should allow only shedninja to do it .. isn't it?

It's in the name: "Pure" Hackmons. The format cannot ban anything or else it wouldn't be "Pure" Hackmons anymore. You can play Balanced Hackmons if you want to see bans!

Is there a way to exclude certain rules when searching for games on replay.pokemonshowdown.com?
For example, if I want to search for Shared Power games that do not use Inverse Mod, is there a way to do so?
 
Is there a resource for PS-specific browser extensions? I've been thinking about making something that would store detailed battle history and perhaps even offer some sort of analysis... But does an extension like that exist already?

If you have one of those questions, great! Just scan over this list first:
  1. Make sure it's related to the Pokemon Showdown simulator. In-game questions go in Orange Islands, while battling questions are more suited to the relevant Smogon Metagames subforum.
  2. Google is a cool resource - try searching there first. It only takes a matter of seconds, and might resolve your issue quickly without resorting to this thread.
  3. If you're new to Smogon in general, the Smogon Simple Questions & Suggestions Thread thread is the perfect place to find your feet.
  4. There's some good stuff on the sim page on the PS site - including a general FAQ and staff FAQ.

I'm trying to host a custom format tournament between my Friends, i wanted to ask if there was a way to be able to use Dynamax in Triples. "Gen 8 Triples", which was my initial Guess, isn't recognized as a format and !dynamaxclause does nothing, is it just not possible or am i missing something?

Because Triples is normally* only available in Gen 5 or Gen 6, you would need to find a side server willing to create a Gen 8 Triples format for you.

*Gen 9 Triples was added as an Other Metagame.
 
A new user by the name of "dance thru" made an account on Pokémon showdown and on the same day (which is Wednesday 23 July 2025) has already got a custom avatar. I am not sure on how they did this so can somebody please tell me how they got a custom avatar the same day that they made a new account.

It's called "an alt" (or alternative account), which means an user who actually got an avatar on his main account, can transfer it to his other accounts as long as he connected once on his real account in the day.
My main account is "FFKz" which has custom avatars, I could decide to make an account called " Randomuser8686" but could still use the avatars on the account "FFKz", not sure if you understood everything I can try to explain better if you want.
