Well, although Marth's won people's hearts the world over, and Roy's the bastard child of his fame, lets look at some fun facts about Ike.

-Ike does not look like a girl.
-While Ike is still in the same transitional teenphaze as the other two, He doesn't sound like a pansy either, as his FE9 voice acting suggests.
-He's not a pampered lord, he's a mercenary, who becomes a general for a liberation army.
-He's a man of few words. He doesnt spend his time talking courtly, or at all, Ike's nature is to do what needs doing, and then shut up.
 
Sakurai throws another curveball at us. And the one day I decide to stay up for the update, it's after 5AM. UGH. I don't normally even like Fire Emblem characters, but there's something about Ike that makes this my favorite update anyway. Is it the hair?

no its just ike is that bitchin. well this is exactly what i had hoped for he was the one FE character i wanted in, well that and that black Knight because the BK would be so badass if he was in SSBB
 
To be honest, I want to see more of the "villain" characters.

So far we've got Wario, Bowser, and Meta Knight. (DK stopped being a vilian about a decade ago).

I hope to see a remastered Ganondorf (TP Sword Weilder plz!).

I'm also hoping for Ridley somewhere, though my money for that is on Assist Trophy. Kraid also. Mother Brain and Metroid Prime are completely infeasible.

Maybe Pokey from Earthbound. That little brat would be interesting.

If Ike is in, I wonder if the Black Knight will be there too?
 
last thing we need is another sword wielder, im all for game diversity but we dont need more than 2 from FE. Hopefully this means Roy is gone. Needs more Golden Sun characters instead of FE.

This hope is almost assured, he's the villian of one of their longest running franchises, and he's got some new duds. They'll put him in.
The joke would be if they did WW dorf.

If they can have Bowser, DK, and (hopefully) Black Knight, i believe Ridley is entirely possible. Kraid, Metroids, Mother Brain, etc. will probably be on Assist duty, but Ridley has the advantage of (correct me if i'm wrong) being either the highest/second highest nintendo character on Sakurai's poll.

I doubt it. I think Earthbound'll be a franchise with a 1-man representative. Bet on Pokey, and others as assist trophies, like Goroh.

If Ike is in, I wonder if the Black Knight will be there too?
He was on Sakurai's poll, and as both of them have a Ranged sword attack, speculation is that they'd be clones.

@Jackal--I'm pretty sure Issac was on the poll, but that'd be more sword wielders. However, if they lost Marth and Roy completely, i'd say Issac/Felix have a good shot.
 
I don't like the Fire Emblem games (It's just because of the fact that I don't like the genre of the game. Strategy RPG, bleh), but this is a neat update.

God damn though, I want a Metaknight update.

Note: Metaknight's character is confusing. He's an off and on villain.

Metaknight seems to be in the Lex Luthor/Dr. Doom mold, where he wants to rule the world as he sees fit with minimal needless destruction, but at the same time will team up with the hero to stop some other force from destroying the world.

This is contrasted to say Ganondorf or Bowser, who are pretty much pleased to let the world go to hell as long as there's a well furnished tower or comfy hot tub in it for him, respectively.

Other villians, mostly in the FF Franchise, are more bent on planetary annihalation over world domination (ExDeath/Sephiroth/Kuja).

Most mobsters and other minor villians are just seeking unlimited latitude for their crimes (Kingpin, TwoFace, Penguin).

Yeah, it would be interesting to see either Isaac or Felix and Saturos or Menardi more than a FE dude... (didn't like Ike).

From the Earthbound i have few hopes to see Paula or Poo, or Jeff like i wanted... it would be awesome to see Pokey like some of you said though.Maybe even Starman.
 
The first new character! Even he probably plays similar to Marth... >_>

And Metaknight's is always villain until the last fight and then he becomes your friend :/...

If this game does have a story mode and Metaknight is evil, he won't be the last boss fight... maybe the second to last boss, akin to metal mario... unless they have character specific boss fights and king Dedede isn't in the game...
 
I also hope someone from earthbound makes an appearance. I hope Roy is gone too.. Sadly I think earthbound, as StrangeDancer pointed out, probably will only have one.. Poney will be cool though(or I hope so..) to play as.

YES! Golden Sun was definitely big enough for at least Isaac or Felix to deserve a spot in brawl.

Although it's still pretty cool they unveiled another newcomer.
 
Yes!!! Just read about Ike. Who cares about any other FE character now (except possibly Greil or Black Knight)?

Wasn't Ike's sword always one-handed? Unless I wasn't paying attention while playing Path of Radiance, Ike always attacked using only his right hand.

who cares

as long as he doesn't suck in the game, i'm happy. =] and they keep marth and his range/aerials. =D but it does look like ike will have massive range...with that huge...thing of his. it's even better than marth's...thing! Obviously this won't matter if they make his optimal damage range suck like roy's. =(

Also, Ike's sword, Ragnell, has a ranged attack ingame, like i pointed out.

So he doesnt need to have Marth-esque insane reach, as i'm sure he'll have some sort of energy wave.
 
Of course for all we know it could be the speed of ness's PK Flash >_>

Seriously, though, I wouldn't count on it being particularly fast, and it probably won't have more range than Bowser's flamethrower.

Roy too had a ranged attack to my knowledge, so I'd doubt that to be honest; on the other hand, Roy's game hadn't been released yet by the time he was put into Melee so it's still a possibility that you're right.

Anyway, if anything I'd like for Roy to be removed since he doesn't serve his purpose as "walking advertisement" anymore, while Marth was the star of the first game in the series. Then again, both Marth and Ike have blue hair >_> somehow I suppose that could present a problem, lol.
 
Strange feeling.

I just had a few thoughts come to mind.
  1. The rest of the week's updates will be Ike-Themed (Note: Only two of four are possible)
    1. Special Moves #1
    2. Special Moves #2
    3. Final Smash
  2. There's also the possibility of seeing the Fire Emblem-Themed stage. I think we've already seen the stage though. It's that burning castle one. You know, that's getting war ravished.
These are just thoughts though and can most certainly be wrong.
 
I think the reason Ike got in, and we wont see them returning, is because Ike is scheduled to be in FE10:Goddess of Dawn, being the first FE hero to be so in more than one game, making him a bit of a newer icon for the series.

And what ranged attack did roy have? I meant something along the lines of an energy-projectile slash, as ike has in Path of Radiance.

Yes Marth was the lord in both of those games.

I'm excited that I finally got the FE update I wanted, even though I haven't played Path of Radiance Ike seems pretty cool. Although it would be nice to see a female from the FE universe, either Lyn from FE7 because she was the first female lord in the US, or Mikaya from the upcoming FE10 game. Both would be great additions.

I doubt that Marth would be out just because Ike is in. Marth started the whole entire FE series. Adding other characters from FE without Marth would be like adding characters from Mario without Mario.

Hopefully there will be a FE stage update tomorrow.
