I'm sorry, I find most of these arguments pretty funny. Stats? Physical vs. Special attacker? Speed? This isn't a genetics project, and we aren't growing some new Pokemon in a tank. (Look how well that turned out)
I understand that some of these things influence decisions, but come on, we're not animating these or something. At the end of the day, even with all of the heart and soul put into this CAP (a fact I do appreciate) At the end of the day all we are making is a set of drawings, numbers, and words. That said, why not have some fun? It may not be practical, but the bottom line is, we can make a Pokemon anything we vote for. 500 lb Pokemon with 150 base speed? Sure why not.
Kukem, I'm sorry, but your design just never jumped out at me in any way. Yes, it looks like a Pokemon, but in a way that's a detriment. It looks like half a Lucario and half that new Dark evolution from Black and White. It looks like a Togekiss partner, in some bizarre way, but at the end of everything, nothing stands out as original. It's not bad to draw from life, it's just not very memorable.
I was actually pretty partial to Buffalo_Wings's design, and I found it sad that it didn't make the next round, but that said, the other two were my next choices.
aragornbird, I followed the concept from the beginning, and I think it's a wonderful design that I would like to see used... in the future. I love the concept, the aztec panther is so bad "A." However, as a quadruped, I don't see it conveying Fighting as a primary type, in fact that hurts Kukem too. Too much dark draws obvious attention to being a Dark type (not that color does much with type, I don't get how Lucario is Steel) and not enough emphasis on Fighting. Again, it's a beautiful work, just not to my tastes with this project.
Doug seems to capture most of our chosen elements perfectly in one convenient package. You may argue stats, but I repeat my argument of "it can because we say it can." It's not just one element either, several choices are wonderfully subtle, from the color palate, to the body proportions. It shows a care and obvious dedication. Not that other applicants lacked this, but it shows more, to me anyway.
The final nail (or pin) in my vote was simply one of options. Not that it needs them with Dark typing to rely on, but Doug's design just offers so many options for logical flavor moves. Seriously, who wants Twin-Needle, Pin Missile, and Needle Arm to be given to so few Pokemon, particularly ones that aren't OU applicable?
Congrads to all three of you. Right now it looks like we might go into a Poll 4. That should be interesting.
