Double Battle Metagame.

You don't have to worry about him being level 19, although I'm pretty sure it won't matter even in a level 50 fight. A male Sentret and female Sentret that both know Follow Me will have a baby Sentret that knows it at level 1.

About the Grouson/Sentret/Cherrim team:
It looks good but I have one big problem with it. You use Sentret specifically to avoid Groudon being KO'd in one turn. Then next turn you rely on your opponents not KOing Groudon in one turn. Of course the SpD boost from Flower Gift ups Groudon's survivability but in Ubers things are so powerful that this may not be enough especially considering Groudon can still take damage from multi-target attacks from the first turn. You need the speed boost from Salac since Groudon only has 90 base speed and will want to keep that low to ensure the Sun gets in play against Kyogre or atleast a 50/50 chance. Which brings up the counters of Abomasnow, Hippowdon and Tyranitar who have the advantage of a lower base speed to keep sun out of effect.

With the low speed Groudon's sweeping will be hindered and thats why you have the Salac Berry. However I would rather have two attacking moves than hoping your HP lands somewhere in the 25%->0% range. Therefor I like the set:

-Swords Dance
-Earthquake
-Fire Punch
-Endure

You can always pair him with Latios once Cherrim is down who can use Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt and Draco Meteor/Dragon Pulse/Ice Beam to deal with Ghosts, Flying and Dragons that won't be hit by Earthquake although the Boosted Fire Punch is gonna hurt them anyway.

I like the team better if it was used in a team of 6 rather then 4 like in the official Nintendo tournament rules (which I know don't allow Groudon), since if you faced another Weather starter, only a third of your team would be essentially worthless rather than half. Either way though a Sword Danced and Flower Gifted Groudon is a very scary thing.

Well, I'll consider that. I always liked the Cherrim idea. I think taht I will revamp the sets. Remember, this is from another user.

Out of curiosity, what would you say is the speed "cutoff" that a pokemon can be effectively be used in Trick Room? I'd say it's about 60 base speed for a dedicated Trick Room poke, but does anyone else have any examples to the contrary?

For TR Pokemon, I personally try to make sure that the pokemon reach a speed that is would be equal to or below that of a 30 Base Speed Pokemonso they can outspeed fellow trick room users. Since the EV Items and Iron Ball half the speed of the pokemon, Base 60 Pokemon are a good cut of point but without those items or support from moves such as Curse or Hammer Arm, those pokemon become vunerable to other TR teams.

Metagross has base 70 speed and still works well under trick room

I was going to say try to get them under 70 specifically to be slower and therefore faster than Metagross. Of course I would never say Metagross is too fast for trick room. I'm sure there are other things with over 70 base speed that would work fine. For example Willis has an awesome warstory where his Absol is pretty dominant.

You may want to be wary of Hammer Arm though, just a warning.

I just have to try adding Bibarel to my Trick Room team. He might have base 71 speed, but it's just too good to pass up thanks to Curse. The only issue is he doesn't have any physical attacks that will strike both targets at once.

Also, Hammer Arm abuse from Miltank might work. Miltank is an all around good choice for Doubles too, I think; with Scrappy she can hit those Ghosts, and with Thick Fat she resists Heat Wave and Blizzard.

In 2006 that was the 10 aniversity of Pokemon and all us players on the GBA got rewarded with a big event that gave out the first American Celebi and we got a big double battles tournament. In the year 2011 that is the 15 aniversity of Pokemon and it is unknown if there is going to be a big event I am hoping so. With that said how about some of us here discuss double battling strategies that would work in 10th aniv rules. In 10th aniveristy the rules had Item Clause and banned Pokemon which are Mew, Wobbuffet holding Leftovers, Celebi, Jirachi, and Deoxys. I am going to assume if we had a 15 ANIV than Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, and Shaymin would be banned along with the others.

I'm still in the process of reading more about doubles, but would this strategy be at all viable?

Infernape@Life Orb
Fake Out
Protect
Close Combat
Fire Punch

Smeargle@Focus Sash
Dark Void
Dragon Dance
Explosion
Night Shade

Latios@?
Reflect
Light Screen
Dragon Pulse
Grass Knot

I'm still debating the fourth Pokemon, but the general gist is this--I send out Infernape and Smeargle to start. Infernape Fake Outs the opponent that I deem the most dangerous for a first turn attack, while Smeargle Dark Voids, surviving due to Focus Sash if the opponent chooses to assault him.

Then, for the second turn, Infernape attacks...whoever, it's not important, while Smeargle uses Dragon Dance. The opponent will likely switch out at least one of their Pokemon.

On the third turn, Infernape uses Protect, while Smeargle uses Explosion. I've done some damage calcs, and it seems as if Explosion should still be able to take out many Pokemon, despite Smeargle's power, after a Dragon Dance (which should also help it go first).

At that point, I bring in Latios, use dualscreens, and then proceed to finish sweeping using Latios, Infernape, and my final chosen Pokemon.

Not a perfect strategy, but...thoughts?

One thing that needs to be understood about Doubles is that switching doesn't happen anywhere near as often as it does in singles.

You also won't have many chances to set up. While Latios is putting up screens, her partner is going to have to fend for themselves.

I don't know if this will work or not but here goes:

Xatu@ Leftovers
Timid
252 Speed, 252 HP, 6 Def
-Guard Swap
-Psychic
-Roost/Wish
-TailWind/Me First

Shuckle@ Leftovers
Impish/Carefull
252 HP, 208 Def, 48 SDef
-Power Trick
-Filler
-Filler
-Filler

Blissey@Leftovers
Modest
252 HP, 252 SpA, 6 Def
-ThunderBolt
-Icebeam
-SoftBoiled
-Aromatherapy

So this set is basically taking advantage of Blissey's huge HP stat and Shuckle's huge Def/Sdef stats.
So first off you Get Xatu to use Guard Swap on Shuckle. If Shuckle survives the first turn use Power trick to give your craptastic Atk and Def to the opponent.
Then send it Blissey and Get Xatu to use Gaurd Swap again. Then just attack away while your opponent tries to take her down.
Aromatherapy is there so you don't get KOed by toxic, but feel free to change it.

gaurd swap doesn't work like that, it swaps def/sp. def boosts/drops not actual stats

and power trick doesn't work like that either, it swaps your own atk and def stats

How should Snorlax be used in Doubles? Obviously he's going to be using Selfdestruct, but should I go with Curse or Protect? I don't think using both would be a good idea, because then he'd be left with only one non-suicide move.

I'm relativly new to Double battles (experienced with singles, but they're completly different doubles), so I was wondering if you guy's would be willing to have a look over this team? I'm hopefully gonna be using it for the video game championship (or whatever it's called), so... yeah, positive criticism would be appreciated. ;)

Ludicolo
Nature: Relaxed (already bred, so this isn't going to change)
ev's:252hp/80SpA/88Def/88SpD
Ability: Raindish
Item: Probably Lum berry
Moves: Fake Out
Hydropump
Grassknot/Energy Ball/Ice Beam
Protect

I'm unsure of what to have in the 3rd slot, one of teh grass moves (probably Knot) to take advantage of STAB, or Ice Beam for flying, ground and dragon types.

Spiritomb or Bannette
Nature: Sassy/Relaxed/Careful/Impish
ev's: Spiritomb: 252hp/128Def/128SpD
Bannette: 252 Atk/252 HP
Ability: Bannette-Insomnia
Item: Bannette-Focus Sash Spiritomb-Chesto berry
Moves: Taunt (both)
Spiritomb-
will-o-wisp
painsplit
Shadowsneak/protect
Bannette-
Trickroom
will-o-wisp/shadowsneak/protect
Destiny Bond

Both resistant to explosion, both have Taunt. Spiritomb will

Porygon 2
Nature: Quiet/Sassy/Relaxed
ev's: 252hp (rest depends upon moveset, likely to invest in defences)
Ability: Trace
Item: Undecided
Moves: Trick Room
Recover
Raindance/Blizzard/charge beam
Thunder/Toxic/Recycle (and berry)

Good trickroom set up Pokemon. Could use Rain dance and thunder, but I feel that's abit restrictive and wouldn't benefit me loads. Blizzard hits both opponents, also eases Ice beam dilema for Ludicolo. Chargebeam as it could provide sweeping capabilities for prolonged battles. Toxic for prolonged battles. Recycle could mean almost infinite use of a held berry, wich could be interesting.

Togekiss
ev's and nature undecided, likely invest in defences and SpA
Moves: Air Slash
Follow Me
Heat wave
Protect/Roost/Ominouswind/Silverwind

Follow me isn't neccessary, but could prove handy. Heat wave is for Bronzong and Metagross. Winds seemed good on paper, at the time with 20% chance of stat raise, but i'm having doubts now. Protect or Roost for longvetivity. Could also slot in Reflect or Light Screen if required.

That's my team at the moment, my biggest concerns are Metagross and Bronzong as only Togekiss can really deal with them, and Garchomp and Zapdos (no real counter to Zapdos, Garchomp is gonna be difficult). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i haven't made this into a team or anything but i think it has potential.

1)Lanturn
252 hp/ 152 def./100spD
Volt absorb-(important)
bold or calm
leftovers
-surf
-thunderbolt
-thunder wave
-confuse ray

2)Lapras
252hp/128def/128spD
water absorb
bold or calm
leftovers
-surf
-rain dance
-thunder
-toxic/ice beam/refresh

Ok the cool thing about this is basically that you have 2 tanks who will replensish each others hp every time they attack. rain dance is there for a much needed boost to surf and a VERY necessary 100% accuracy thunder. the rest is mostly filler toxic on lapras is basically for double teamers who may ruin the strategy or other bulky waters etc. no need to explain refresh right? The biggest problems with this are those damn grass which ice beam might hurt.somewhat. Anyway the other thing is the item problem. in the battle tower only 1 can hold leftovers so maybe damp rock on lapras or perhaps shell bell is a good idea. I've yet to try this but i'd like to hear everyone's insults and whatnot(lol jk). so please share them.

I use

Regigigas Leftovers
Superpower
Earthquake
Return
Fire Punch

Exxeggutor: Focus sash
Sunny day
Skill swap
Solar beam
Hp fire

1st Exxeggutor uses Sunny day and Regigigas endure
2nd turn Exeggutor uses Skill swap and regigigas attacks

Now Regigigas has 200 spe and full attack. I then procede to sweep my opponent's team.

On Pokemon Battle Revolution? That might work fine. But IIRC--unless something's been changed on Platinum--for the handhelds, Skill Swap won't remove Regigigas' Slow Start, but will rather keep it on him permanently.

After looking at this thread for a few hours, trying to grasp the double battle metagame, i made my first set. This utilizes the fact that garchomp is sweet and NOT banned in the tourney.

Garchomp@Life Orb
Jolly
252 Attack/252 Speed/ 6 HP
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Dragon Claw
-Stone Edge

Hippowdon@Leftovers
Impish
252 HP/168 Defense/ 88 Sp. Defense
-Yawn
-Earthquake
-Ice Fang
-Fire Fang

This set takes advantage of Garchomps sand veil(Raises evasion 20% in sandstorm), whilst Hippowdon Yawns then attacks whomever he pleases. Hippowdon is bulky so he can stay alive, and Garchomp stays alive by killing like the uber he is. I want opinions because i think this is pretty good.

Smeargie(Lol)@Scope Lens
Jolly
252 Speed/252 HP/6 Def
-DARK VOID(Lol it sounds eviler that way)
-Lock On
-Sheer Cold
-Double Team

Okay, this may be a little similar to other smeargles, but I think this could work. First, I dark Void and hopefully get both pokemon. After that I use double team a couple times and proceed to lock on then sheer cold, refreshing Dark Void when necessary.

Flygon@Choice Band
Jolly
252 Attack/252 Speed/6 HP
-Outrage
-Fire Punch
-Earthquake
-Giga Impact(for the last pokemon)
This is basically Garchomp 2. The only difference is the choice band but otherwise he basically sweeps.

For the Overview, i think this team is pretty good and I would love to see the electivire/zapdoes combo used against it so i can laugh.

This Team is for the Pokemon VGC!

If you use Skill Swap, Gastro Acid, or Worry Seed on Regigigas in Diamond and Pearl, its stats will return to normal the instant you remove or cancel its Ability. I can't imagine this would work any differently in Platinum.

---

@Yarnus vs Hartwig; you might want to use a more deceptive opening if you want to be able to reliably pull that off. It's a great strategy for abusing Regigigas but as a pairing it is painfully obvious to your opponent. What you could do is run Crobat along side Exeggutor since he pretty much guarantees that Sunny Day (Inner Focus) will be set up and can also use Taunt (mandatory) or Haze. Once you do set up the Sun, just switch out Crobat, use Skill Swap on Regigigas and proceed to kill stuff for the rest of the game. Two turns of set up is kind of long though, but since you won't have to devote any EVs to its Speed (well, maybe some), you have a lot of room to bulk up Regigigas's defenses so the switch in won't be too painful for him, especially considering you are switching out Crobat which your opponent might not be very inclined to attack when you have an Exeggutor on the field.

My friend used this exact strategy against me once. I was completely convinced he was going for straight-up Sunny Day... Until he switched in the Gigas and used Skill Swap. Its pretty effective, especially with Crobat as a lead.

I've heard the exact opposite, numerous times--that his stats are lowered because of Slow Start, and that, if Slow Start is removed, they'd stay lowered. Is it possible that I'm wrong? Of course, and I haven't tried if myself. But I have heard it many, many times, from many different sources.

http://www.smogon.com/dp/abilities/slow_start

"This Pokémon's Attack and Speed are halved until the end of this ability's effect. This is not a stat drop. After five turns on the field, the Attack and Speed stats return to their normal values. The counter resets every time this Pokémon is switched out. If this Pokemon loses its ability due to Gastro Acid or Skill Swap, the Attack and Speed stats return to their normal values. If Slow Start is skill swapped onto a Pokémon already under the effects of Slow Start, the counter is not reset.
In Japanese versions of Diamond / Pearl, removing Slow Start does not undo the Attack and Speed drop; the Slow Start Pokemon must still wait 5 turns."

Does Worry Seed work in the same way as Gastro Acid? I'm guessing yes, because its the equivalent of Skill Swapping Insomnia onto the target.

An Exeggutor with Worry Seed, and then Relfect or Light Screen wouldn't be that bad an idea as a partner for Slaking or Regigigas.

Worry Seed and Gastro Acid are actually quite different. Worry Seed replaces the target's ability with Insomnia. So it's like Skill Swap, but the user's ability is unaffected.

Gastro Acid suppresses the effects of the target's ability. So a Slaking that gets hit with Gastro Acid still has the ability Truant, but it has no effect. If you were to Skill Swap the Slaking, you'd still get the Truant ability and the Slaking would get your ability, but the Slaking would be unable to use its new ability due to Gastro Acid. This 'ability suppression' caused by Gastro Acid is an effect in its own right and can be Baton Passed.

Also, Worry Seed fails when used on a Pokémon with Truant. So, Gastro Acid is the best choice on Slaking.
