DP Research Thread #4 ("Newer still")

What happens if a Pokemon has a named status and is confused, and then acquires a Lum Berry (Trick, Thief, Covet, Recycle...)

Swellow is Burned and Confused!
Alakazam switched items with its target!
Alakazam obtained one Flame Orb!
Swellow obtained one Lum Berry!
Swellow normalized it's status using Lum Berry!

Next turn, Swellow was neither Burned OR Confused!

It has recently come to my attention that Super Luck doubles the critical hit rate rather than increasing the stage by 1. I know for certain that the doubling occurs before any item modifiers like Scope Lens, so there's no need to test that. However, what I would like tested is how Super Luck reacts to high-crit moves like Night Slash; if the crit rate becomes 25%, it's a direct doubling, but if it becomes 33.3%, it's a stage doubling.

This has already been tested extensively by Peterko. I saw Peterko's findings since I helped him a bit with the testing, and I can assure you 100% that Super Luck does not double the CH rate, but only increases the Critical Hit domain by 1.

If you want, I'll find the post with the necessary test, although it'll take me some time to find.

I was reading an old DP Research thread. Me and Peterko had actually placed Tinted Lens in Mod3 at first, then, for some reason, moved it to Mod2. We must have made a test where we misinterpreted Tinted Lens' position at some point. It's good that this issue is resolved once and for all.

However, we still need to test if a Pokemon with Tinted Lens using a Normal move against a Steel or Rock type Pokemon holding Chilan berry would always result in even damage or not when Chilan Berry is activated. If so, Tinted Lens would activate last; if not, Chilan Berry would activate last.

Anyone up for the test? I don't think it should take too much time.

I'd be up for the test, just tell me what info. I need to provide you with.
You'll need a Pokemon having Tinted Lens (Venomoth, Illumise or Yanmega) use a Normal attack against any Rock or Steel type Pokemon (something like Geodude or Graveler or Bronzor would do) having Chilan Berry attached, and report the amount of damage dealt when Chilan Berry is activated. Do this about 10 times. That's all there is to it.

Sorry Shelcario, but I need to finish what I started:

Venomoth (255 SpA, Tinted Lens, Lv 100, Hyper Beam)
Magnezone (Chilan Berry, Recycle, 209 SpD)

If at any point the damage is odd, then Tinted Lens is before Chilan Berry. If it is always even, then Tinted Lens is after Chilan Berry.

Trial 1: 300-226=EVEN
Trial 2: 226-149=ODD
Trial 3: 148-77=ODD

Ergo, Tinted Lens is Before Chilan Berry.

Anticapation Tests

Anticipation: Does it inform this Pokemon of super-effective Judgment or Weather Ball? Is Counter considered a Fighting attack, is Metal Burst considered a Steel attack, and is Mirror Coat considered a Psychic attack? How about Beat Up, Doom Desire, and Future Sight?

How to test: Use Sunny Day on a Castform with Weather Ball but no other move that's SE on Wormadam. Switch in Wormadam.

No.

Give Arceus a plate that makes Judgment Super Effective on Wormadam (for instance, Flame Plate). Make sure Arceus has no other moves SE on Wormadam. Switch in Wormadam.

I ain't got an Arceus, but based on Weather Ball's results, I'm guessing no.

Send out a Pokemon with Mirror Coat, but no attacks that hit Croagunk / Toxicroak super effective. Switch in Croagunk / Toxicroak.

No.

Send out a Pokemon with Future Sight, but no attacks that hit Croagunk / Toxicroak super effective. Switch in Croagunk / Toxicroak.

Yes.

How to test Beat Up, Doom Desire, Counter, and Metal Burst is pending further testing of Anticipate's interaction with Skill Swap / Roll Play / Trace.

Switch in Porygon2 with Trace on a Croagunk / Toxicroak with a Fighting move.

Yes.

Use Role Play on Anticipation Pokemon with an SE move, for instance, Stantler Role Plays a Toxicroak with a Fighting move.

Yes.

Use Skill Swap on Anticipation Pokemon with an SE move, for instance, Blissey uses Skill Swap on Toxicroak with a Fighting move.

Yes.

If a Ghost Pokemon has Anticipation, does it shudder at Explosion and Selfdestruct?

No.

Does it inform this Pokemon of super-effective Judgment or Weather Ball?

Signs point to no.

Is Counter considered a Fighting attack, is Metal Burst considered a Steel attack, and is Mirror Coat considered a Psychic attack?

Since Mirror Coat didn't cause shuddering, it would be safe to assume none of those others do.

How about Beat Up, Doom Desire, and Future Sight?

Future Sight was yes, so I am assuming Doom Desire is also. Beat Up will require more testing.

Ice Body

Question: Since Pokemon with Sand Veil and Snow Cloak do not take damage from the respective weathers if they are not the respective types, does the same apply for Ice Body?

Test:
Perma-Hail activated
Kecleon used Skill Swap!
Kecleon acquired Ice Body!
Kecleon restored HP using its Ice Body!

(No damage message from Hail occurred)

As you can see, I tested this 16 times, and if I did everything right, it shows how the Special Attack increases 100% of time in the 16 tests I did.

Reckless: Does Reckless boost the damage from Struggle?

Yes, having tested Lv 100 252 Atk @ Adamant Hitmonlee's.

This were tested 2 times each, I'll do more if nessecary.

Hitmonlee with Reckless Struggle vs Lv 50 Celebi 252 HP / 252 Def = 18 - 20%

Hitmonlee with Reckless WITHOUT Struggle vs Lv 50 Celebi 252 HP / 252 Def = 15 - 17%

-------

Hitmonlee with Reckless Struggle vs Lv 50 Gliscor 252 HP / 252 Def = 25 - 29%

Hitmonlee with Reckless WITHOUT Struggle vs Lv 50 Gliscor 252 HP / 252 Def = 21 - 24%
I think that Reckless does boost up struggle, but I could be wrong, I'm not that good with numbers.

Technician: Does it boost Struggle?

I ran each test I'm posting below 3 times, and I'm posting the ranges from all the 3 battles together, in ex. 30 - 34%, meaning it hit 30% to 31% or 32%, but the damage didn't go any higher than 34%.

Ambipom with Technician Struggle 252 Atk @ Adamant vs Lv 50 Gliscor with 252 HP / 252 Def = 45 - 52%

Ambipom WITHOUT Technician ad has PickUp Struggle 252 Atk @ Adamant vs Lv.50 Gliscor with 252 HP / 252 Def = 30 - 34%
So I would say yes, Technician DOES boost Struggle.

Muscle Band: Does Muscle Band boost confusion damage?

No it does not.

Heal Block: Does this result in Wish healing:

I got this

Blissey used Wish.
Blissey made a wish!
Bronzong used Heal Block.
Blissey was prevented from healing!
---
Venom switched in Blissey (lvl 100 Blissey ?).
Bronzong used Iron Defense.
Bronzong's defence was sharply raised.
The wish came true!
Blissey restored 50% of its health.
---
So, the next pokemon can heal from the previous Wish that was made, tested 2 times.

Anticipation Follow Up

Does it inform this Pokemon of super-effective Judgment or Weather Ball?

Signs point to no.

Haven't got an Arceus yet to test Judegement.

Is Counter considered a Fighting attack, is Metal Burst considered a Steel attack, and is Mirror Coat considered a Psychic attack?

Since Mirror Coat didn't cause shuddering, it would be safe to assume none of those others do.

Just tested it, Counter and Metal Burst did not activate it.

How about Beat Up, Doom Desire, and Future Sight?

Future Sight was yes, so I am assuming Doom Desire is also. Beat Up will require more testing.

Doom Desire is yes. Beat Up is a Yes also.

Embargo: If a Pokemon is under the effects of Embargo and uses Pluck / Bug Bite, does it still immediately activate the berry, or is the berry just destroyed?
I go in an in-game double battle using Ninjask who has no item and Bug Bit and Spiritomb who has Embargo and Petaya Berry;
Ninjask uses Swords Dance (used because it's faster)
Spiritomb uses Embargo on Ninjask
Foes randomly attack
Ninjask uses Bug Bite on Spiritomb
The "stolen and got eaten" message still appears, however the berry is not activated, therefore the berry is "destroyed".
Ingrain: What happens if you U-Turn while under the effects of Ingrain?
Using Ingrain/U-Turn Smeargle in an in-game double battle tagged with Aerodactly that has Roar (and other Pokemon like Ninjask for switch-ins):
Smeargle uses Ingrain
Aerodactyl uses Agility (filler)
Foes randomly attack
Smeargle uses U-Turn
I switch in Ninjask with less than 100% HP
I throw an Ultra Ball to waste a turn of Ninjask
Ninjask didn't receive any HP recovery/ingrain animation
Aerodactyl uses Roar after enemies randomly attack
Ninjask is forced to switch out

When using U-Turn while Ingrain is in effect, the switch in doesn't recover its HP by the Ingrain nor does it get the ability to not be Phazed.
Magic Coat: Can you Magic Coat Heal Block?
I go online with Arcaseven (because you can't use Heal Block on your partner Pokemon in a double battle in-game):
He sends out Lopunny
I send out Smeargle
Lopunny uses Magic Coat
Smeargle uses Heal Block
Lopunny uses Magic Coat (filler)
Smeargles uses Recover (it says it can't recover because of full HP, while if was Heal Blocked it won't say that, but rather say it's blocked by Heal Block)

Therefore Heal Block cannot be Magic Coated.

Sleep Talk: Can Sleep Talk select Fly and its clones?
I go in an in-game battle with a Togekiss with Sleep Talk, Fly and Focus Punch and Spiritomb;
Spiritomb uses Hypnosis
Toegkiss uses Sleep Talk
But it failed!
I repeatedly did this because of having both Fly and Focus Punch. The Sleep Talk in all the turns has the message "But it failed" meaning Fly and other moves that needs a turn to charge don't work with Sleep Talk.
Note: Sunny Day and Power Herb won't make the Sleep Talk work with the above moves.
Sleep Talk: How does Sleep Talk interact with Ice Ball and Rollout? I suspect Sleep Talk can randomly select the move, but I am not sure what happens next. It could possibly lock the user into trying to pick Ice Ball / Rollout, but I doubt it. The real question is whether, if Sleep Talk is chosen again, and it picks Ice Ball / Rollout the next turn as well, does the power get doubled? I suspect it has regular power.
I use Golem with Rollout and Sleep Talk and Spiritomb;
Spiritomb uses Hypnosis on Golem
Golem uses Sleep Talk->Rollout on enemy Machop (about 40% doing to it)
(It's only used once with Sleep Talk)
Enemies attack
Spiritomb uses Hypnosis on Meditite
Golem uses Sleep Talk->Rollout on Meditite
Machop attacks
Spiritomb uses Hypnosis on Machop
Golem uses Sleep Talk->Rollout on Meditite
Both enemies are asleep
Spiritomb uses Hypnosis on something (Golem's still asleep)
Golem uses Sleep Talk->Rollout it crits Machop but doesn't kill it (/`80%).
Because the first Rollout did ~40% to machop and ~80% by the last one to it after a CH, Rollout can not get its power up even if it gets chosen repeatedly by Sleep Talk.
Sleep Talk will make Rollout/Ice Ball attack once that turn, and will not receive a boost to their power even if they're chosen repeatedly.
Sleep Talk: Can you Sleep Talk moves with 0 PP?
I go in an in-game double battle using No Guard Machamp who only has Sleep Talk and Cross Chop with 0 PPs and Spiritomb;
Machamp uses Sleep Talk (it's not asleep yet so it fails and again used because it's faster)
Spiritomb uses Hypnosis on Machamp
Foes randomly attack
Machamp uses Sleep Talk->Cross Chop and hits one of the foe's Pokemon.
Spiritomb uses Hypnosis on Machamp for the lols.
Foes randomly attack
Machamp uses Sleep Talk ->Chop and hits the other enemy. (know second Sleep Talk wasn't needed but did it anyways)

So, Sleep Talk can choose moves with 0 PP.

Might do more researches later :).

Magic Guard: The first turn, Clefable with Magic Guard switches in on Venusaur's Toxic. Of course, it takes no poison damage, but the message "Clefable is hurt by poison!" is displayed. The second turn Venusaur used Worry Seed. Clefable is now vulnerable to his Toxic infliction. At the end of the turn, does Clefable take 6%, as it would the first turn of Toxic, or 12%, from the second turn?

I tried this in a double battle against the computer. I fainted/slept the opponents and spent three rounds missing Toxic before the test got underway. The test uses a Magic Guard Clefairy with 105 HP.

Toxic Round 1: Venusaur lands Toxic on Clefairy, Clefairy uses Lucky Chant (filler).

Toxic Round 2: *filler*

Toxic Round 3: Venusaur uses Worry Seed on Clefairy, Clefairy uses Moonlight. At the end of the round Clefairy's health drops from 105 to 87; Toxic did 18 damage, 3/16 of its HP.

Toxic Round 4: Clefairy uses Moonlight. At the end of the round its health drops from 105 to 81; Toxic did 24 damage, 4/16 of its HP.

Toxic Round 5: Clefairy uses Moonlight. At the end of the round its health drops from 105 to 75; Toxic did 30 damage, 5/16 of its HP.

Toxic's counter keeps going up under Magic Guard.

Quick Feet: Does Quick Feet boost your Speed under Freeze or Confusion?

Participants involved in battle: Quick Feet Ursaring, Lanturn with Ice Beam + Confuse Ray, and Toxicroak
Things to take note of are in bold

Opponents do nothing significant in this battle, and will be omitted
Ursaring and Toxicroak are sent out

Turn 1
Toxicroak uses Bulk Up
Ursaring uses Bulk Up
*Toxicroak is faster than Ursaring without any boosts

Turn 2
Lanturn is switched in

Turn 3
Lanturn Thunder Waves Ursaring, activating Quick Feet

Turn 4
Toxicroak is switched back in

Turn 5
Ursaring used Bulk Up
Toxicroak used Bulk Up
*Ursaring is faster than Toxicroak when Quick Feet activates, did this step just to make sure

Turn 6
Paralysis is healed, Lanturn replaces Toxicroak

Turn 7
Lanturn uses Confuse Ray on Ursaring

Turn 8
Toxicroak is switched in

Turn 9
Toxicroak uses Bulk Up
Ursaring is confused!
Ursaring used Bulk Up
*Toxicroak still outspeeds Ursaring, thus Quick Feet does not activate when confused

Turn 10
Lanturn is switched back in

Turn 11-17
Ursaring Bulk Ups, while Lanturn Ice Beams it, eventually freezing it

Turn 18
Toxicroak is switched in, Ursaring is still frozen

Turn 19
Ursaring thawed out!
Ursaring used Bulk Up
Toxicroak used Bulk Up

Turn 20
Toxicroak used Bulk Up
Ursaring used Bulk Up
*Ursaring went first even on the turn it thawed out, thus Quick Feet activates when frozen

Will Sleep Talk still fail to pick Solarbeam during Sunny Day?

Will it still pick charge-up moves if the user is holding Powerful Herb?

I'd test these myself, but alas, I fried my DS trying to overclock it. :(

I'll test both up now, then I'll edit both this post and my previous one.
Edit: Just tested both, they both don't make Solar Beam selected..meaning Sleep Talk won't work with a move that needs a charging turn even if you use Sunny Day on Solar Beam's case and Power Herb on any as the item.

Quick Feet: Does Quick Feet boost your Speed under Freeze or Confusion?

the game doesn´t consider confusion as a „status problem“ that would boost speed with quick feet

the game does consider freeze as a „status problem“ that boosts speed with quick feet

Fire Spin: A Pokemon is hit by Fire Spin / Magma Storm. This Pokemon is then frozen (while the 2-5 turn trapping thing is still in effect). Are they immediately thawed by the end-of-turn "Fire" damage? (I suspect not)?

skill swapped serene grace on fire spin + ice beam smeargle, fire spin partner and freeze afterwards
1. hurt by fire spin at the end of the turn didn´t thaw (the answer to your question is NO)
2. used fire spin again (attacked) thawed the pokémon

magma storm "should" work the same way

Gravity: The issue of how Gravity raises your effective accuracy is still unknown. How I would test it is by using Double Team once under Gravity. If it's actually -2 evasion for all, moves would have 4/3 their normal accuracy, but if it's * 5/3 accuracy, moves would have 3/4 * 5/3 = 5/4 their normal accuracy, meaning a 75% accurate move (Sleep Powder without CompoundEyes) would have 100% accuracy for -2 evasion, but 93.75% accuracy (possibly rounded to 93%) for * 5/3, as I suspect it is. If you ever miss Sleep Powder, it's not a -2 evasion stage change. You can do a similar test by using Sand Attack on your attacker. If you ever miss Sleep Powder, it's not a +2 accuracy change. This means it must be *5/3 accuracy or *3/5 evasion. The only difference between the two is possible rounding issues, but I don't think there is enough information on how accuracy works to determine that.

sleep powder missed under gravity after one sand attack

Reckless Struggle

it´s not on the first page anymore, why?

lv.20, 59 attack reckless hitmonlee struggle vs 24 defense bibarel 25 damage (no boost 22-26dmg, boost 26-31dmg)

reckless doesn´t boost struggle damage

struggle = normal type ignoring accuracy modifiers (this is what our move description says)
1. typeless IMO, wouldn´t it get STAB if it was normal type? normal type also doesn´t work well with my third point
2. attacks random pkmn of the foe in 2vs2
3. ALWAYS HITS

btw. skill swapped rock head on medicham, HJK missed and crashed, recoil

I'll test both up now, then I'll edit both this post and my previous one.

Nice. Does this work the same way with Assist - that is, it doesn't call charge-up moves?

Nice. Does this work the same way with Assist - that is, it doesn't call charge-up moves?
Thanks, I'll try that later because I'm in my Encore-trials (it probably does though pick them thinking it works like Metronome and with the moves not be chosen list in the main site).

Is Magic Coat supposed to hit through substitute? I say this because on Shoddy I had a Pokemon under a sub that used hypnosis while my opponent used magic coat. My Pokemon (which was still under a sub) fell asleep.
