E3 2013 | RETR-oh no....

Second. Everything impressive was stuff we'd been expecting.
Mario 3D series is inferior to Mario Galaxy, though the co-op is posed to be interesting (though it was hardly a surprise, as it's been heavily rumored). Wind Waker HD looked alright, but they've taken the "add bloom until it looks 'pretty'" approach, and aside from that it doesn't look like a huge upgrade over Wind Waker like OoT 3D was over the N64 version. Retro's "new" project doesn't live up to the dream (Star Fox/Metroid/F-Zero return) and instead opts for the safe and boring route. Mario Kart 8 looks nice, but not drastically different from Mario Kart 7 in appearances (would have liked heavily customizable karts), and aside from DKC there were no surprises. All the nice stuff was stuff we'd been expecting.
Overall it was as good as I had expected, but not as good as I had hoped. Someday we'll get our big multiplayer Metroid platformer/shooter or the next Star Fox game :(
What the fuck is with the people in this thread that don't like Donkey Kong Country? Are you all too young to have played the originals on the SNES? Like wtf? Donkey Kong Country Returns was incredible. I'm thrilled that Retro is making another.
I love the people that are claiming there were no surprises given the fact that Mega Man is in fucking Super Smash Bros. I sure do bet you were expecting that.

Yeh megaman is cool. Fairy type is stupid. Where the fuck was Starfox, why is Retro still doing safe and shitty DK sidescrollers, wheres my gritty grimdark Zelda?

Still waiting on eventual price drop for any of this shit though before even thinking about buying a WiiU

Oh, I played DKC and DKC2 (alongside DKCR). It just doesn't feel like the type of game Retro should be making based on the awesome efforts they made with the Metroid Prime trilogy. Retro Studios seems like the type of company to make the nitty gritty style of game Nintendo (at the moment) lacks.

I mean, I can definitely agree that it would've been awesome if they had continued to make Metroid games or if they had gone with Star Fox, but I'm certainly not going to complain with a new Donkey Kong Country game, especially given that their first effort was excellent and given that this new one has Dixie Kong<3<3<3<3
Retro just worked on DKCR, so we expected something different. And it looks very similar.
Nintendo has recently released Megaman 1-5 on 3DS and 10 on Wii-U, so Megaman was expected.
Yoshi's Island was announced during the last ND.

edit: for the record, i would have absolutely loved a new Star Fox or something. But saying 'oh no retro is making yet another stupendous game series, but this time it's the same as the last one they made' is just silly.
Sounds like you're comparing part 2 of a trilogy (hunters does not count) to DKCR.

Dream Team does look awesome, and it's good to hear that MK8 can do a ton of cool shit and not feel cluttered. Still waiting on that song from the mech trailer, though.
yeah, square-enix confirmed today that they're both coming out for xbone as well (square conference synopsis)
they should've saved shin megami tensei x fire emblem for e3 so they could give us something really shocking (although smt and fe are admittedly niche series so maybe nobody would care??), it's not like they gave us any information on it since they announced it anyways
and i really wanted to see it, maybe later idk... i guess maybe they can't show us anything much at all but it'd be nice to know SOMETHING about the direction they intend to take
nice presentation though, in a long time i've rarely bothered with anything more than the keynotes for any presentations other than nintendo's because i know i'll never be truly disappointed by nintendo exclusives lol. i thought the megaman+villager introduction was quite well-done, even though i only have strong emotional stakes in one of those things!
