Favorite board game

We play 4th edition because we pretty much just got into it, and it's the simplest. I DMed to get us all going since I was the one who wanted to play, but my friend is doing it right now to try it out.

I'm generally more of a silly DM, which is why I'm so excited for Gamma World.

I actually own this. I'm Mormon, by the way.

It's actually really funny. I had a party with a bunch of my friends and we played it, and it might have just been the fact that it was 3 in the morning, but it was hilarious.

Now that 4th Edition D&D is out, I don't know why anyone would play 3.5 anymore besides one of the awesome campaign paths like Age of Worms. Fourth Edition improves in basically every way possibly, most importantly balance. Fuck CoDzilla.

I don't play games with dice in them. I have the worst luck in games like Monopoly, Risk, and A&A because dice hate me. I prefer games like Chess (though not many of my friends like it) and Stratego (same as chess), since it's 100% strategy and my fate isn't decided by rolling a 1 or 6.

EDIT: scrabble is cool too

I have a lot of good card/board games:
  • Apples to Apples
  • Zombie Dice
  • What?
  • Balderdash
  • Chess (must be included)
  • Fact or Crap
  • Last Word
  • Backgammon (also must be included)
  • Pigs

The game of Life. It was wicked you drove a car and got really rich and got married with kids and got a sick house every time. It was basically luck who won but with almost guaranteed riches along the way.

scrabble best :D i challenge you to a d-d-d-d-duel

I also enjoy bananagrams and stratego, and monopoly was one of my childhood favorites but nobody would play with me so since then i've come to dislike it. :(

Oh yeah stratego i totally forgot about that! Also yeah I am the best in my social circle at Bananagrams and scrabble, so I don't get to play much.

also i am boss at set.

we should have a smogon scrabble tournament, there are too many 'the best' here

stratego oh man. nobody else knew what the hell they were doing and i hid my general like a pro. good times.

Card games > board games
this. a good game of scum beats every board game.

board game wise uhh... cranium was good the first couple of times; monopoly is good but takes so fucking long; risk is fun but again takes an age to play; other than those three i can't really remember any decent ones.

balderdash is the best party game to play if you are with your friends and nobody is actually trying to win

Best experience with this game:

Was playing at a friends' house. For 5 turns in a row, people had chosen the movie category. I was sick of it, so I said before my go that I was definitely not doing the movie. When I read the card, I HAD to do movie. The movie title was "Watermelon Man". The possible answers were a feel-good movie about an African farmer who carts watermelons town-to-town and gives them to the children, a man who ate a watermelon seed and started to turn into a watermelon, some other meaningless answers, and the one answer noone guessed: "A white man wakes up one morning and is horrified to find he has become black."

Everyone thought it was too obviously racist to be real, it had to be one of our jokes.

EDIT: My number 1 reason for preferring card games over board games is that they're quicker to set up, quicker to finish a game (generally) and quicker to pack up. It's important in the Games society I'm in to have quick turnover of games, so people can play many different things in one night.
