Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
I was on a holiday in New York City just last week, good thing it wasn't a week later. By now they have started evacuating people, and public transport is being shut down, too.
In Eastern PA, the storm hasn't hit us yet, though it was supposed to rain all day here. Now, the local weather guy said it'll get here in about an hour and a half. Knowing our luck, I'll lose power for a few days at least.
Please proceed to your nearest FEMA camp at this time, region 9. The military will be glad to assist you helpless Americans when you don't have power to microwave your food. Just turn in your weapons on the way. Thank you.
I live in Virginia and it already passed by my hometown but hasn't hit campus yet. You can feel the wind picking up but I'm not really concerned for us
my mom and sister are in cuba because my great grandmother is dying. the hurricane just missed them by Santiago de Cuba (the city). 11 people are already dead. i'm glad it wasn't my folks but still. sandy's a bitch
girlfriend's flight out of Washington-Dulles on monday got cancelled, they rescheduled it for the next day, which is when sandy is supposed to actually be over DC
All of New York City's Metro systems are shut down. All flights in and out of JFK, La Guardia, Newark, and Philly are scheduled to halt sometime tomorrow. New York is under mandatory evacuation for about 500,000 people. My little cousin's classes are cancelled until Wednesday (Lives in Ocean County, NJ), and my mom tells me Fairfax County finally cancelled classes for everyone about an hour ago.
Well, I assume that at this point it is still safe to use ferries and the like to get people across the rivers. Evacuating half a million people is still a heck of a job, though.
Anyone else live on Long Island? I'm away at college now but the rest of my family is still home. It probably won't be a big deal further inland but my house is literally a block away from the Great South Bay and open water, so yeah. When Irene came through last year our basement flooded pretty badly but besides that we were okay.
I have some friends who live right on the water and they have issues with really minor storms already since their backyard is basically a beach. Hopefully it's not too bad
