I feel really sad about what my grades are going to be

First 2 quarters, solid 3.65 GPA.

But this quarter, I forgot to turn in some stuff, so now I'm getting a D or C in English(Dropped from an A), and B in most of my classes. It's making my so paranoid because

1. I want to go to a good college, and make lots of money, and this just makes me feel like I have no chance anymore.
2. I'm full Asian, and my parents are going to so completely pissed at me.

So what should I do to get over it. I've already asked another website, and they said that with everything, I should be able to go to where I want. I REALLY don't want to stay in the place I live in, I hate it so much, but this makes me think I have to stay

I forgot to turn some assignments in, because I skipped class due to Baseball. Today was the last day of the quarter, and I forgot to turn them in. So now i have somewhere between a high D, and low C.

I'm a freshmen in High School. The rest in original post

You have more than enough time to bring up your GPA if you're a freshmen...

No offense but that's kind of your fault. This isn't like "I'm trying really hard but I keep failing tests how can I study more?" or "keeping on track at home/not getting distracted." There aren't really any tips we can give you other than _don't_ skip class and forget to hand assignments in. But like I said, if you really have the drive to get into a good college I would just stop skipping classes and do all of your assignments :|

I can't give you any practical advice since I know fuck all about GPAs etc but with regards to your parents, I know what you are feeling. If you are seriously worried about getting shitty results, then tell your parents now and make a concerted effort to improve, i.e. a structured work pattern and blowing off anything extraneous that won't improve your chances of getting into university. Your parents will cut you some slack if they see that you think you've fucked up, you've recognised it and will act upon it.

I don't think you're Asian.

OP: accept the physical/verbal abuse you will get and stop skipping class.

I am an Asian and a typical one too (by that i mean a nerd). I know it'd be hard to tell your parents about messing up your grade but seriously, you would have to do that. If they expect it and think you will make an effort to improve your grades, they might cut you some slack.

Seriously though, you have no one to blame but yourself. If you study hard and fail to turn up for exams and fail them, it won't exactly be the school's fault, would it? It's the same thing with assignments, really. You should prioritize what you want to do. I understand that you are interested in baseball but it should always come as a past-time and not above your studies. At least not when you want to improve and get your grades back on track.

By the sound of it, I think you get distracted too easily and aren't really interested to study but are ambitious anyway. All I can really suggest is concentrate. I've heard some of my friends who spend a lot of their time online put loads of reminders on the computer (through MS outlook) to just remind them to study and/or do assignments. You could try that (and adding reminders on cellphones/mp3 players or something for other stuff).

You're a freshman? Are you trying to graduate next year or something, because most freshmen have three more years to pull their grades up. Honestly, you're just going to have to man up and take the punishment from your parents, and then get back to work. If getting bad grades really has a bad impact on you, it should motivate you to do better. As long as you don't panic and get discouraged (which is what you seem to be doing right now) you can work hard and probably bring your GPA up to higher than it was before.

While I wouldn't advise a totally hedonistic "let God take care of it" approach, I have to say you shouldn't worry so much, at least on getting into college. I, myself, screwed up Freshman and Sophomore year (failed English first year, got bad grades in a bunch of other subjects) but managed to get accepted into a good college with a 3.28 and not a lot of stress, although I did have to go out of my way to make up my English credits in order to graduate with honors. I must say, though, you don't wanna fall into that trap as it's screwed me up all throughout school--sorry that I can't think of any good advice to help you at the moment, as I still battle with the same problem!

I did horribly in math but still had a 3.3 GPA in the end, just do well the rest of your time in school and you should be fine. My math classes were all C's with one D and a B but my other classes were all A's and B's (mostly A's). Dont let baseball get in the way too much or you might end up not playing baseball at all. At my school the kids had to keep good grades or they got cut from the teams, so be careful.

I'm going to second the advice of taking AP courses.

I got a C in my honors English class the first grading period, but because of the way the course is weighted, my GPA was still over 3.5.

Otherwise, it's one class...try harder next grading period, keep up with those assignments. You have three years, no need to stress.

On the other hand, I'd be a lot more worried about your parents' reactions. Good luck, man.

1. Take the beating (hopefully verbal) from your parents
2. Don't do it again
3. Focus on the last quarter
4. Keep your GPA in future years and you'll end up fine...

If it does affect your GPA, and you turn it around in the future, colleges my like the fact that your grades are improving... idk.

Just learn how to be more responsible. If you can keep good grades under normal circumstances, then you should be able to do so now if you turn in your assignments.

Another thing - just because baseball is going on doesn't mean you can just neglect school. Colleges want to see that you can balance your life and succeed in multiple areas at the same time. So work on managing your time, especially if you plan on taking AP classes. Success in a higher level class is entirely dependent on your study skills and organization - they leave alot more to the student.

Responsibility (or lack thereof) kills GPAs; I would have near-perfect had I turned in a few assignments so I can kinda empathize for you.

Just suck it up, take in your parent's words/scolding/insults, and do better next time around. Don't let yourself down because of one mistake - just keep looking forward and you'll do fine.

If all else fails, GPA-whore the system. =]

2. I'm full Asian, and my parents are going to so completely pissed at me.

he

But seriously, there's no better advice than just "try". I mean, it's kind of your fault, and theres nothing you can do but just work on it; hand things in on time next time.

Yeah if your a freshman, don't worry about your gpa as long as your taking honors classes, My brother has a 4.6 something on the 4 scale, and i've got like a 3.7, with only a few honors classes and I have gotten a few C's as final grades.

Don't worry man, just don't do this kind of garbage again. I failed Grade 11 English twice because apparently getting by on test marks I hadn't read the books for wasn't enough. I also failed math because I refused to open a text book. This was depressing as hell because I was always the kid who got ~95% on math shit when I actually did the work. I can't even take calculus because I don't have the prerequisite skills to handle the shit we were doing.

I've been pushing top grades in all of my classes this year though (which are surprisingly only like ~89%) but I was still nervous as hell when I applied for university. Then one day I got an email telling me that I was accepted.. and then another. Both of these schools are fairly respectable and something like less than 10% of kids get early acceptance here. I must be doing something right.

Basically, while hearing this kind of news is never a good thing, I just wanted to point out that more likely than not you'll be able to compensate for this if you just bust your ass off form here on out. Unless it was your goal to get into Harvard or something, I don't think this should matter.

Edit: Oh man, I just realized you're a freshman. That means you still have 3 more years ahead of you, kid. No sweat.

You're a freshmen? Than does this even count? I know that my grades from 8 - 11 weren't counted at all in my university applications. Only 5 of the 8 courses I took in Grade 12. The previous four years of high school were absolutely useless as far as grades went.

Of course I didn't know that until my final year and that's when the "wtf did i spend all that effort on" mindset sunk in for me and about half my classmates.

That came to me last year.

If you get your ass kicked and it leaves an impression be thankful. It only took me one academic fuckup to never, ever miss a due date again.

Sounds like you'll be able to fix it easily, accept your lumps and try harder next time.

I know, I'm accepting it now, probably because I read around that colleges don't really care too much about rogue bad grades.

Its just that I feel bad, because my dad's a dean at a university, and he's always telling me that the schools I want to get into (Iowa, Ohio, UCLA, or most California places) only accept the top 1% in the high school. Which I know is a lie. He wants me to go to college in the town I live in now, because it would be cheaper, but I can't stand this damn place.

Also they just bought me a ipod touch, and I feel bad that I didn't do so well.

only accept the top 1% in the high school.
That's one of the funniest lies I've ever heard. According to my school's college database UCLA and Ohio State (you didn't specify so I chose some random ohio school) accept students with an average of a 3.41 and 3.46 GPA, respectively.

Don't beat yourself up over it, even though it kind of is your fault. You really have to have the drive in freshmen year if you're going to keep it. All upperclassmen told me I'd become a slacker by my Junior year; I'm extremely determined to get good grades, and I still am (in my junior year). I won't even take the excused days off for college visits or take a day off to visit TAY ^__~ Hard work does pay off though, I've worked myself really hard and out of all the classes I've taken the lowest grade I've gotten in high school so far is a 91 (and this is with difficult classes like Honors Chem, Physics, etc.) But I digress, just try to get back on track and have strong willpower and you'll do fine.

note the 91 was in a fucking elective where the teacher was horrible, I still die inside a little whenever I think about it @_____@

In the US, colleges look at your grades from 9th to 11th grade, and look at your schedule that you're taking in 12th grade. If you take high school level courses in 8th grade or earlier (some schools offer the option for you to take such classes) they look at those grades as well.
