Are you against hacking??

I don't really mind(I convince myself thatit's real :D), unless it's such a bad hack. I wouldn't trade one of my well bred pokes for a hacked poke though.

If it comes to trading, trading for a hacked Pokemon is completely pointless; I could just as easily hack the same, why the hell would I trade for it? (this seems to be the issue everyone is "concerned" about when it comes to whether things are hacked or not)

When it comes to battling, there also shouldn't be much room for discussion; if someone wants to hack game-possible Pokemon up and battle w/ them, there shouldn't be a problem as you're facing what should ideally be the best possible challenge, where the only room for random probability are speed-ties, critical hits/accuracy, and trainer skill. The best bred Pokemon don't even need to have straight 31s to be of the same caliber as a hacked guy, 26+ for staying in the same % of damage, etc etc... Why is this thread still open since we've had it 4 times now, by my count? Unless this is actually about the "hacked stuff" in the Wifi forum? Seriously, what major issue w/ hacking are we talking about if not that and how does that at all relate to whether "hacking is ok"?

I was just thinking the same thing, this thread comes up like once a week.

My stance in the past has been don't trade hacks, but if you must battle with game-legal hacks, have the courtesy to let the other party know.

In the GBA days, I just sharked whatever I wanted and that was that. Wifi wasn't around so it wasn't a moral issue. But having been there done that, it totally sucks all the fun out of the game compared to not cheating. It's like beating super mario world for SNES with the invincibility game genie code on- what's the point? It just ruins the fun, and games are played for fun are they not?

Netbattle/Shoddy/Competitor exists for the purely competitive people out there, so cheating seems even more pointless. Just save yourself the $35 game and the $15 cheat device and play those, that makes more economical sense than paying for the game and ruining it.

And I'd rather have my real, imperfect IV but workable Raikou than a hacked Raikou any day- I have access to both but I'd chose the real one every time. I guess the game is different for everyone.

You know, ask me this question 1-2 years ago and I don't care, do whatever you want...

But since the introduction of Wi-Fi play, I have turned against it.

Myself, I breed/train all my Pokemon from scratch and won't ever hack Pokemon, so I am in the camp of those who spend hours and hours hatching eggs looking for something worthwhile. I really don't have a problem with those who hack to save time, but the main reason I am against hacking...

I am sick of everything turning into this.

* Ness joins #spp-wifi
<Ness> looking for a standard rules battle
(5 PMs open within 10 seconds, I pick the person who seems the best, aka someone not named Wifiguest934243)

<PKMNTRAINER> I'll battle
<Ness> Ok, Standard Rules, OK? No hacks/ubers/etc.
<PKMNTRAINER> OK
(Friend codes exchanged, battle starts)

* Ness sent out LEGIT SHINY Roserade!
* PKMNTRAINER sent out Shiny Spiritomb!
* Roserade used Sludge Bomb!
* Spiritomb's WONDER GUARD prevented damage
* Spiritomb used Shadow Force!
<Ness> ....

Honestly... every person I try to battle in SPP-Wifi, or GameFAQs, uses hacks like Wondertomb. It's damn near impossible to get a good battle in from either of those two communities. I'll spend an hour trying to get a battle in, register 6 differen't people's friend codes, they will claim they aren't going to use hacks, and in battle all of their Pokemon are shiny, have illegal moves, etc. It's annoying.

Well it does kinda piss me off that I spent hours iv breeding my pokes and some guy can do it in 10 mins. But in the end, it really doesn't matter, for all I know he got those legitly. I just don't like having hacked pokes. Its not like I'm the most honest guy in the world I guess its just a personal preference. Hacking stats to higher than they can go is just wrong though, that just screws with your fun.

Trade hacks for my legits, specially if they don't warn about it? Not tolerable at all.

Battling against hacked, but possible ingame pokémon? It's OK, the advantage is not that much usually. Should be warned before the battle, though.

That's all, it's just a matter of respect. If someone doesn't want to trade with hacks, do not trade with him/her. You can hack, right? Hack yourself a copy of the pokémon you want. The same goes for battling: If you enjoy Wondertomb or other stupidly impossible combinations, be sure that the one you're battling against doesn't mind it.

If people are willing to put themselves at a handicap by relying on chance to give them good Pokemon, then so be it. It's like refusing medicine when there's something out there to improve your condition, even if God didn't intend it.

Um, no. It's like playing THE WAY YOU'RE MEANT TO. You sound like you support steroids or something. Use Shoddy or something if you want to conjure 31/31/31/31/31/31 stuff out of nowhere.

"Playing the way you're meant to." You're also not supposed to fuck girls unless you're attempting to produce a child, because sex was meant to produce babies. See? This is no better than a religious fundamentalist argument. It's not going to go anywhere.

Nearly all that seconded.

I don't have too much of a problem with hacking as a time-saving thing, cos not everyone has the time to spend hatching loads of eggs to get that perfect battler. As long as they keep the hack within legal limits, that's fine. I won't use hacks personally, if I am aware of it.

Meh, I just say that people that just create Pokemon by AR, PokeSav, or whatever, can't even be called Pokemon Trainers, because they don't even train the thing, they just make it. It completely defeats the purpose of playing the game. Because of this, I call these people Pokemon Savvers, due to the fact that they don't care enough to train, or even breed a Pokemon naturally.

I'm not knocking people who do hack, it's just the truth.

Many people, including yourself, forget that on Smogon the game is battling. Not trading. Not breeding.

And seriously, who gives a shit whether or not they're considered a "Pokemon Trainer." I mean, how old are you to still give a shit about that kind of stuff?

It almost sounds like you're saying that people who play Pokemon have a life O.o

QFT.

I laughed when I saw the results after I voted. Right now it's exactly 50/50.

This is a very divided issue for a lot of reasons but mainly it comes down to it being sort of an unfair advantage to those putting in the time to play the odds with the random number generators. Whether they chose to do it because of the money it takes to buy a hacking device/flash cart, because of the "ethics" of cheating or just because they actually enjoy breeding, it takes the breeder much more effort, energy and luck to be on the same playing field as someone who can cheat even if they do it within the constraints of the game. Some people liken it to steroids in sports but I don't feel that's a fully accurate and appropriate comparison. If you're really interested in all the arguments there's plenty of threads about this if you just use the search function.

Personally, I'm not against it as long as everything is obtainable in theory without the cheating. I don't play competitively enough anymore nor do I have the time or patience to breed legitimately so I will hack in the pokemon I need.
yeah, as it turns out applying ethics to a video game implies a serious lack of proportion

It's fine by me as long as the person who hacked mentions it when he or she is going to fight. But I think it's kind of unfair and training Pokémon is the purpose of the game, so not doing it kind of ruins it. We've got Shoddy for perfect IVs, but I don't care if I fight someone with hacked Pokémon as long as the person mentions it and they're not the 31/31/31/31/31/31 kind of stuff. That's called an unfair advantage, IMO.

Just my opinion.

I don't have any respect for any kind of hacked pokemon, neither in battling nor in trading...
it just ruins the fun... For me it is a very good feeling after maybe 1 or 2 weeks of breeding getting a nearly perfect-iv pokemon :) that's just satisfying
and battling with legal pokemon is again better in my opinion if it comes to wifi because if you want to fight with perfect-iv pokemon you can use shoddy etc

I don't agree with hacked moves, 252's in everything, but I really don't have a problem- you do what you gotta do. I honestly say that I don't hack pokes, but I did use an Action Replay for All TM's, all berries, Master Balls, ect. It's not the device that ruins the game it's the people who own the device.

That said, you're pretty pathetic if you use hacked wonderguard tomb to win,lol

Hacking is disgusting!!! After breeding and training you are happy with your results. Then at WiFi you're going to use your newly trained pokemon, your opponent uses a hacked pokemon and you are beaten in less then five minutes. You'll be very dissapointing.

I don't care what you hack, a hacked poke is wrong!!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally against it. It's all ok for research, items, simple stuff like that. I just don't like the idea of people passing off hacked stuff as legit. Why would you want to trade if you can make it yourself? I have no problem with someone who hacks the crap out of something and lets the other person know about it. But without hacking, we wouldn't know about Wondertombs only weakness, and other stuff like that.

I have never ever hacked. As a result, my in-game Pokemon are less than perfect. I don't clone either, so trading for good stuff online is difficult for me.

I find it frusterating that other people clone their TMs and items and good pokemon, and basically get free stuff. It's hard when I have to work for every new Leftovers I want, and come up with several good IVed pokes jsut so I can trade a few of them. I still get by, without ever doing anything even remotely close to cheating.

I think IVs really, really suck, and made the game harder, but it doesn't mean you have to cheat and hack to get good pokes. If you work at it, you can still get decent IVs and beat your friends. If you seriously want perfect pokemon, go on Shoddy and get hidden powers and IVs you want. Don't cheat on your DS game.
