Latios (Dewless Uber analysis) GP (2/2)

Okay, old man rant is over. I will probably still test it this weekend when I get the chance, but these are the main gripes I have with it.

Your not acting like an old man lol, I thought similar to what you thought then I tested and then realized it beats Blissey and Chansey, which is it's advantage over basically the other dragons. Levitate helps it more too with the hazard-infestation the meta is at the moment so yeah... I will get rid of LO since it can't screw over Chansey with LO if wanted.

EDIT: I understand this process may take a while but if anyone has the idea of closing this analysis due to inactivity, I'll still be active on it just waiting for QC Checks.

Specs Latios actually did fairly well in Ubers. Psychock is a HUGE advantage over other Specs users. 2HKOing Blissey reliably and at least threatening Chansey is amazing. STAB Draco Meteor from base 130 SpA is still powerful enough to take out threats such as offensive Dialga. Grass Knot 2HKOes Ground Arceus while SD Ground Arceus can't do the same without a boost.

Immunity to Spikes is a big advantage, Ferrothorn setting up Spikes on Latios doesn't hurt that much because Latios is immune to it. Latios also beats Garchomp and Terrakion, which is slowly rising in usage. Latios also has the advantage of always outspeeding Manaphy and OHKO it with Specs Thunder.

We need 3 approvals now ? Just asking.

Also why is Dragon Dance mentioned in AC of Choice Specs ? It makes little sense. I'd say move it to OO, since its pretty much outclassed by Dragon Arceus anyway. Also I know you mention Soul Dew in DW, but you need to mention it in the Overview too. Ok so since we do need 3 checks now

All right 3 checks will begin writing it up :D.

Specially Offensive dragon originally had Life Orb slashed with specs on it (but I removed it later because its sooooo weak) so yeah dragon dance worked decently with Life Orb held since it says screw you to scarf palkia and is virtually impossible to outspeed unless its a scarf shaymin, darkrai, mewtwo, or you just have a scarfed arceus o.0.

I'll move it to OO but i dont understand what you mean by being outclassed by dragon arse since dragon arse doesnt get a speed boosting move (not that it needs it but outspeeding mewtwo is really nice).

What I meant was leave physical attacking to more dedicated Dragons like Dragon Arceus and anyway this is Specs, so the arguement is moot. But the only reason I listed Dragon Arceus was because it was faster than Latios and doesnt really need a speed boosting move.

Latios!
[Overview]

<p>Do not be fooled by into thinking that the Jet Plane is worthless without the its infamous Soul Dew. Latios is still perfectly capable of posing a well-known large threat in the Uber tier,[Add Comma] due to wielding [Or "having", something like that] a few advantages it has that sets itself apart from it's dragon brethren. The master of time and space distorter Dialga and Palkia [Must it be so poetic? Dont need to change that, just dont assume collective knowledge of Pokemon law, newbies use Smogon analyses too] cannot handle the excuriciating pain that their feet feel when switching into spikes, which our jet plane Latios avoids by being airborne, courtesy of Levitate. Latios's movepool is also quite unique, in the sense that it gets access to Recover, Trick, and Memento, yet it struggles to gain a Fire-Type move outside of Hidden Power Fire to defeat its steel foes that maintain a cold, metalic, iron structure [Quoth the raven, nevermore. Being more serious though, preference]. It's [Be careful with apostrophes; It's means It Is or It Has] base stats also leave much to be desired.;[Remove Period / Add Semicolon] although it has a blistering base 110 speed,[Add Comma] its other stats are quite mediocre,.[Remove Comma / Add Period] In particular,[Add Comma] its Special Attack is quite small by Uber standards, which failing to reach the 150 base of its other Dragon-Brethren Uber Dragons. It's defenses are also low, and will normally meaning that Latios will usually die if a faster Dragon releases an strong attack at it before it can release its own. Regardless of these short-comings disadvantages,[Add Comma] [Optional] Latios still makes for a great choice on any Uber team, and should not be forgotten as a threat.</p>

[SET]
name: Dual Screens
move 1: Light Screen
move 2: Reflect
move 3: Draco Meteor/ Recover/ Roost
move 4: Memento
item: Light Clay
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 12 SpD / 244 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>Latios's [Im unsure; should that "s" be there?] Dragon-Typing, ability, high base Speed, and access to Memento,[Add Comma] enable it to distinguish itself as an exceptionally talented Dual Screener. Light Screen and Reflect enable Latios to cushion itself,[Add Comma] and the its team,[Add Comma] from the enemies attacks for eight turns. With Memento at it's side in its arsenal [Optional] Latios can kill itself and lower the attacking stats of an enemy even further, while providing a free switch to another team mate. The third moveslot choice is dependent on what the team wants. Latios can very easily set up screens more then once [Add the "c"] in the match,[Add Comma] and Recover or Roost enable it to heal itself to perform that job very well. However,[Add Comma] if Latios is intended to be used just to instantaneously only to cripple an opponent, it may be beneficial to cripple heavily damage them further with a Draco Meteor before abusing their lowered lowering their attacking stats. In addition,[Add Comma] Draco Meteor provides Latios with a move that prevents it from struggling when it is taunted stops Latios from being destroyed by taunt, while enabling it to somewhat hit-and-run as well as [Not really needed] preventing Rayquaza from setting up in front of it.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>Since Latios's main purpose is to help a team mate sweep, it does great good idea [Preference] to pair it up with a team mate that can raise its stats, such as Dragon Dance Rayquaza or Shell Smash Cloyster. Latios however In particular,[Add Comma] Latios enjoy's[Remove Apostrophe] Mew and Espeon support,.[Remove Comma / Add Period] The former is capable of easily accumulating many boosts and passing it to pass to a team mate,[Add Comma] and while the ladder latter insuring that Whirlwind and Roar will not remove these boosts.</p>

<p>Latios can run moves aside Draco Meteor,[Add Comma] or make us of a healing move if one desires more for team support. Thunder Wave enables Latios to further cripple his enemies cutting their speed into a fourth of their original as well as add a and providing a handy paralysis chance that can be useful to get an extra boost. Tailwind enables Latios to double the speed of his team,[Add Comma] and with when it being used in conjuntion with Memento, Latios has little trouble getting a team mate in to abuse the defensive and speed boosts to defense and speed. Finally,[Add Comma] Latios can run Dragon Pulse as an option for more reliable STAB option then than Draco Meteor. However,[Add Comma] Dragon Pulse is fairly weak, being incapable of breaking even the Substitutes of a 252 HP Ho-oh or Lugia. </p>

<p>Latios's current spread is designed so that it can avoid a 2HKO from Timid Scarf Palkia's Spacial Rend,[Add Comma] while being able to outspeed all non-scarf Terrakion. If one feels that Terrakion is simply too uncommon and wishes to increase Latios's bulk, the spread of 252 HP / 192 Spe / 64 SpD can be used to outspeed all non-scarf Garchomp. If you feel that Garchomp is also too rare to deserve ev investment, then the spread of 252 HP/ 160 Spd<Add Space>/ 96 Spe enables Latios to outspeed all base 90s while retaining a fairly high amount of special bulk. </p>

[SET]

name: Special Attacker
move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Surf / Hidden Power Fire
move 3: Thunder / Grass Knot
move 4: Trick / Psyshock / Dragon Pulse
item: Choice Specs
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>Although Latios may appear too weak to run a offensive set due to its below average Special Attack, Latios has a few unique advantages when one finds himself in need for as a specially offensive dragon. Unlike other dragons,[Add Comma] Latios is blessed with the coveted an ability in Levitate, STAB Psyshock, Trick, and an above average base 110 speed. With Choice Specs,[Add Comma] Latios can abuse all three of these advantages wonderfully, being able to switch in on Earthquake, taking damage only from Stealth Rock, and wreak havoc with its Special Attack that is bolstered by Choice Specs. Draco Meteor is the crux of the set,[Add Comma] 1-2HKOing everything that does not resist it and whose name is not bar Blissey or and Chansey [I'll just go nickname my Magikarp Blissey. Jks, its a fragmentation thing]. Surf and Hidden Power Fire give Latios the ability to hit Steel-types hard and gain a Psuedo-STAB in Rain and Sun. Thunder allows Latios to OHKO offensive Kyogre and non-wacan boosted Manaphy, but leaves it vulnerable to ground types that may switch into its attacks. Grass Knot hits Ubers things for massive damage,[Add Comma] and enables it Latios to still maintain a OHKO on offensive Kyogre,[Add Comma] while now with the bonus of OHKOing Groudon. However, Manaphy finds it easy to set up in the face of Grass Knot due to its paltry 20 base power against it. The last moveslot is a very tricky choice. Trick enables Latios to cripple all Special walls and lock them into a one move. Psyshock is an option for hitting the Chansey and Blissey, 2HKOing the latter [Watch your spelling of that] with no hazards,[Add Comma] and always 2HKOing the former after Stealth Rocks and a layer of Spikes. Dragon Pulse is a strong, reliable STAB Dragon-type move and can be used to clean up weakened teams. </p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>Latios can opt to run an Expert Belt or Dragon Plate to bluff Choice Specs, when it really is not choiced and deal some more heavy damage whilst being able to switch moves. However, the power boost lost from Specs is noticable, as Psyshock now only tickles Chansey and Blissey and is easily with in their Softboiled range. It Latios can no longer even 2HKO the former with Stealth Rock and 3 layers of spikes. Latios can also use a Life Orb set with the same moves and Recover to recover heal [Sounds a bit redundant] off Life Orb recoil, but Latios will rarely find time to use Recover,[Add Comma] and Latios still hits many common Ubers very weakly for low damage without the boost it recieves from specs. It Latios cannot manage to 2HKO Blissey with Life Orb without if lacking hazard support,[Add Comma] [Fairly sure its a small "s", not crazy good with poke grammar] and leaves leaving Latios helpless against it. </p>

[Other Options]

<p>Latios can run a Choice Scarf set to become a very potent revenge killer. It is the only dragon capable of outspeeding and OHKOing Timid Scarf Palkia and also is the only dragon that can trick its scarf onto any suspecting Chansey or Blissey that try to wall it. Outside of this, however, Latios has few usable options. [Or something like it..?] </p>

[Checks and Counters]

<p>Latios attempting to use dual screens are best stopped by Darkrai and Wobbufet. Both are capable of rendering Latios useless by their own different means. as they turn the tables on it into a lose-lose scenario [Just sounds a bit better]. Should Latios switch when confronted with a Darkrai,[Add Comma] then whatever is switched in the switch-in will be sent put to sleep,[Add Comma] effectively crippling the team. Should Latios stay in to confront the dark monster, it will experience nasty dreams and be used as set-up fodder. Wobbufett deserves a special is mentioned as it forces Latios to Memento or Draco Meteor.[Add Period]unless it wants to be locked on to a screen and used as set up for another pokemon since Latios cannot set up screens against Wobbuffet, as it will be locked into that move and used as set-up fodder by another pokemon, left unable to switch out it cannot switch courtesy of Shadow Tag [Feels a bit long either way. Consider rephrasing? If not, its still fine the way it is]. Virtually any pokemon faster then Latios with Taunt or Encore shuts dual screen Latios down. Whimsicott comes to mind when considering these characteristics thanks to the fact it as it carries both moves and can abuse use Latios to start a permanent sub seed cycle on it.</p>

<p>The Specially Offensive Dragon is completely countered by any Support Arceus carrying a plate. Support Ghost Arceus deserves a special mention due to the fact it easily absorbs all of Latios's hits and can recover the damage off. It also gains the advantage of being able to Support Ghost Arceus can also swiftly eliminate it Latios with a STAB Super Effective Judgement, as well as maintaining an immunity to its Trick. Chansey and Blissey wall sets utilizing Dragon Pulse, but are in a world of pain if it Latios carries Psyshock,[Add Comma] and both are severely crippled when and cannot afford to be tricked a pair of Choice Specs. </p>

[Dream World]

<p>With Dream World,[Add Comma] Latios gets the ability to hold the mythical Soul Dew. This object enables Latios to perform duties such as Calm Mind, hit-and-run without the use of Specs, and enables it to become a very potent late game cleaner. It can now very nicely utilize Recover,[Add Comma] since as it obtains incredible offensive and defensive power,[Add Comma] while being able retaining the ability [Preference] to switch moves. </p>

On the dual screen set please remove Roost and shift 8 Special Defense evs to Speed since the reason for both is absolutely ridiculous.

On the dual screen set please remove Roost and shift 8 Special Defense evs to Speed since the reason for both is absolutely ridiculous.

BBut,
Latios's current spread is designed so that it can avoid a 2HKO on average from Timid Scarf Palkia's Spacial Rend while being able to outspeed all non-scarf Terrakion.

Besides (snatches Barry's post again) expert belt Draco also fails to OHKO after Light Screen :D. Since chances are it will be leading it doesn't exactly fear Stealth Rock and all it takes is one turn to set up an additional screen or Memento.

Roost actually is not affected by Gravity (just checked and I was wrong) and that chance you might troll something that wants to use EQ is so high its not even funny lol.

I will be getting that GP check taken care of momentarily also...

Latios!
Ready for GP Checks!
QC Checks:
Shrang, Trickroom, Barry4ever
GP Checks:
If you'd like to see the skeleton simply open the hide tab!
Overview:
  • Access to a high base 110 speed, and levitate.
  • Fantastic Dragon-typing that enables it to get STAB on Draco Meteor, and resist Electric, Water, and Fire type moves.
  • Immune to spikes and ground-type moves.
  • Horrible Psychic-typing, making it weak to Pursuit, Dark Pulse, ghost-type moves, while only providing a somewhat useful Psychic resist.
  • A somewhat decent check to Mewtwo lacking ice beam.
  • Very odd movepool, fantastic for a support pokemon, yet a dragon that lacks a fire type move outside of Hidden Power fire.
  • Access to the coveted recover.
  • Not very high Defensive bases, base 130 Special Attacking stat is much lower then the 150 of the time-twister and space-distorter.
  • Can still make for a support pokemon or a choiced attacker because of its speed, movepool, dragon-typing, and Recover.
[SET]
name: Dual Screens
move 1: Light Screen
move 2: Reflect
move 3: Draco Meteor/ Recover/ Roost
move 4: Memento
item: Light Clay
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP /12 SpD / 244 Spe

Why this set deserves to be on-site:
  • Sets up screens very easily and can often switch into a predicted thunder, fire blast, or ground move.
  • If used as a lead it can set up a instant -6 to the opponent.
  • 110 speed enables it to outspeed a lot of things and set up a screen before they move, also diffrentiating from the only other competitor it has for this role, uxie.
  • Memento and recover enables it to not be outclassed by other dual screeners like latias, cresselia, and jirachi.
Set Comments:
  • Thanks to its strange typing and ability, Latios has the abilitiy to easily switch into an attack that it resists, and set up Light Screen and Reflect rather swiftly courtesy of its base 110 speed.
  • The abilitiy to recieve dual screens, a recovery move, very powerful STAB, and Memento, enable Latios to set itself apart from other common screeners, in particular Uxie.
  • Draco Meteor is very strong STAB and hits things hard, ohkoing those that are hit super effectively by it and works fantastically with Latios since it will be switching in and out very often, or commiting suicide. Roost and Recover however can buy Latios time to set up more screens, and possibly enable it to set them up more then once in a match.
  • Memento enables Latios to essentailly lower an opponents stats by 6 stages.
  • 252 HP evs and 12 SpD evs enable Latios to on average not be ohkoed by 2 Spacial Rends from a timid Palkia assuming Light Screen is up while ensuring that a modest Draco Meteor from any Specially offensive dragon will not OHKO it assuming it it has taken Stealth Rock damage and a Light Screen is up. The 244 Speed evs ensure it outspeeds all non-scarf Terrakion and pokemon that have a speed base of 108.
Additional Comments:
  • Thunder wave can be used over Draco Meteor or a recovery move in order to make an opponent possible be -4, -6, -6.
  • Dragon Pulse can also be used over Draco Meteor for a move that does more reliable damage but Latios will probably be switching in and out continuously, and Draco Meteor can break Lugia's and Ho-oh's sub while Dragon Pulse cannot.
  • If you don't want to outspeed base 108's (Terrakion) or feel that they are too rare, a spread of 252 HP / 192 Spe / 64 SpD can be used to outspeed base 102's (Garchomp). If you feel that you just want to outspeed base 90s then the spread of 252 HP / 160 Spd / 96 Spe is also usable.
  • Latios can also utilize Tailwind on the same set over Draco Meteor or a healing move.
Teammates & Counters:
  • Works very well with Mew, Cloyster, and any form of Arceus that can set up.
  • Double Dance Groudon and Dragon Dance Rayquaza have a much easier time setting up with -6's on their opponent.
  • Espeon loves the reflect it sets up and can start a nearly impossible to phaze Baton Pass chain.
  • Darkrai can send it to sleep and set up its own Nasty Plots, or effectively cripple latios by giving it a scarf, locking it onto a screen. It can even create a Substitute to avoid Memento, and only has to be wary of a rather slow Thunder Wave.
  • Anything with Taunt will prevent most Latios from doing its job, Mewtwo deserves a special mention at this since it can set up a streak of Calm Minds and shrug of a Draco Meteor at +1.
  • Any support Arceus with Perish Song can shrug of a Draco Meteor and can stall out the turns of Light screen and Reflect as well as stop any Baton Pass shenanigans, and prevent any pokemon from setting up on it.
  • Wobbufet can encore it into a screen and really doesnt care about anything Latios flings at it with the exception of a Draco Meteor if it has already taken quite a bit of prior damage.

Credits to Barry4ever and Shrang for the set.

Why this set deserves to be on-site:
  • Only Dragon aside from Rayquaza that is not vulnerable to Spikes and Toxic Spikes.
  • Unlike Rayquaza is not SR weak.
  • Access to the beloved Trick and STAB on Psyshock enables it to beat the BLOBS without having to run a Mixed ev spread.
Set Comments:
  • Latios's movepool and ability enable it to be a very potent sweeper and wall breaker.
  • Unlike many other Specially offensive Dragon, Latios gets the ability to hit its opponents with Psyshock, a move that target's defense and can also cripple special walls that are not Arceus with Trick.
  • Draco Meteor is strong STAB, coming off a base 130 Special Attack, and will dent if not OHKO anything that does not resist it or is pink and fat.
  • Hidden Power Fire gives Latios additional coverage, as well as giving it the ability to OHKO Ferrothorn and Forretress (bar Sturdy) in sun, and enables it to touch shedinja. Surf is great coverage with Draco Meteor and hit's Arceus-Steel very hard in rain.
  • Thunder enables Latios to hit Kyogre hard and beat opposing Manaphy. Grass Knot enables Latios to hit both Kyogre and Groudon for major damage, but will tickle Manaphy.
  • The last move is a tricky choice. Latios can cripple an enemy's special wall, aging them useless by tricking them his eon old specs, and retiring from his old, choice, boring work, while getting the ability to switch moves unless it tricks the special tank who is Arceus who is immune to the wonders of age that cannot be tricked. Psyshock is reliable STAB, that hits the target's defense stat, enabling Latios to beat Blissey, and other foes that have a Calm Mind, but has overall horrible coverage. Lastly, Latios has the option to go for a more reliable, good coverage, STAB in the form of Dragon Pulse.
Additional Comments:
  • Latios can opt to run an Expert Belt or Dragon Plate to bluff Choice Specs, when it really is not choiced and get another KO.
  • Latios can use a Life Orb set with the same moves and Recover to recover off Life Orb recoil, but Latios will rarely find time to use Recover, and hits many common Ubers very weakly, without that extra boost it recieves from specs.
Other Options:
  • Latios can run a scarf set since it is the only dragon capable of outspeeding Scarf Palkia and recieving trick, but not recieving a base 150 Special Attack makes it's attacks hurt a lot less then that of Dialga's. In addition a scarf Arceus can do the same but with better bulk, move pool, and higher speed, in exchange for loss of Dragon STAB, levitate, and less base Special Attack.
  • Latios recieves Magic Coat, enabling it to somewhat anti-lead but other Arceus forms normally do that better.
  • Latios is the only Specially Offensive Dragon to receive Dragon Dance and can use the move to boost it's speed.
Dream World:
  • Latios does not get a special ability but it now obtains an object which other Ubers could only dream of receiving, Soul Dew.
  • Soul Dew increases Latios's Special Attack and Special Defense by 1 stage, enabling it to do things that it would normally be outclassed by Arceus at doing, like Calm Mind.
  • Sadly this fabled object cannot receive much discussion since this is a Pre-Soul Dew analysis.

<p>Do not be fooled into thinking that the Jet Plane is worthless without its infamous Soul Dew. Should Latios choose otherwise, it will be locked onto a screen, effectively transforming it into set-up bait as Latios cannot switch courtesy of Wobbufett's Shadow Tag. Virtually any pokemon faster then Latios with Taunt or Encore shuts dual screen Latios down. Whimsicott comes to mind when considering these characteristics as it carries both moves and can use Latios to start a permanent sub seed cycle on it.</p>

<p>The Specially Offensive Dragon is completely countered by any Support Arceus carrying a plate. Support Ghost Arceus deserves a special mention due to the fact it easily absorbs all of Latios's hits and can recover the damage off. Support Ghost Arceus can also swiftly eliminate Latios with a STAB Super Effective Judgement, as well as maintaining an immunity to its Trick. Chansey and Blissey wall sets utilizing Dragon Pulse, but are in a world of pain if Latios carries Psyshock, and both are severely crippled when tricked a pair of Choice Specs.<remove space> </p>

[Dream World]

<p>With Dream World, Latios gets the ability to hold the mythical Soul Dew. This object enables Latios to perform duties such as Calm Mind, hit-and-run without the use of Specs, and enables it to become a very potent late game cleaner. He can now very nicely utilize Recover, as he obtains incredible offensive and defensive power while retaining the ability to switch moves.<remove space> </p>
Amateur GP check in progress.

EDIT: Done. I changed the "its" to "he, himself, him" to maintain consistency within the analysis.

Ok Shame That's GP Check is implemented, but MegamanX you have the analysis before the check... so uh... if possible try to check the current one? Sorry if that troubled your check-in-progress. If its not possible I'll try to filter out which edits are already taken care of.

Sorry about the troublesome check Megaman X but its finally been implemented. Latios is a manly dragon... who would've guessed <.<.

Leading with this just spells gimmicky strategies, and any adequate player will not fall for this ridiculous bullshit bluff. Also please remove any mentions of Espeon, since it was deemed unworthy of an ubers analysis.

[Overview]

<p>Do not be fooled into thinking that the Jet Plane is worthless without its infamous Soul Dew. Latios is still perfectly capable of posing a large threat in the Uber tier, wielding a few advantages that set him apart from his dragon brethren. Dialga and Palkia cannot handle the excruciating pain that their feet feel when switching into Spikes, which Latios avoids, courtesy of Levitate. Latios's movepool is also quite unique, in the sense that he gets has access to Recover, Trick, and Memento, yet struggles to gain a Fire-Typetype move outside of Hidden Power Fire to defeat his steel foes. His base stats also leave much to be desired; although he has a blistering base 110 speed Speed, his other stats are quite mediocre. In particular, his Special Attack are also quite low by Uber standards, failing to reach the 150 base Special Attack stat of the other Uber Dragons. It's His defenses are also low, meaning that Latios will usually die if a faster Dragon releases a strong attack. Regardless of these disadvantages, Latios still makes for a great choice on any Uber team, and should not be forgotten as a threat.</p>

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>Latios' Latios's Dragon typing -Typing, ability, high base Speed, and access to Memento, enable him to distinguish himself as an exceptionally talented dual screen user. Dual Screener. Light Screen and Reflect enable Latios to cushion himself, and his team from the enemies attacks for eight turns. With Memento in its arsenal Latios can kill himself and lower the attacking stats of an enemy even further, while providing a free switch to another team mate. The third moveslot choice is dependent on what the team needs. Latios can very easily set up screens more then once in the match, and Recover or Roost enable him to heal itself to perform that job very well. However; if Latios is intended to be used only to cripple an opponent, it may be beneficial to heavily damage them with a Draco Meteor before lowering their attacking stats. In addition, Draco Meteor prevents Latios from being destroyed by Taunt while and enabling it to prevent Rayquaza from setting up.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>Since Latios's main purpose is to help a team mate sweep, it is a good idea to pair him up with teamremove space mates that can raise their stats, such as Dragon Dance Rayquaza or Shell Smash Cloyster. In particular, Latios enjoys Mew and Espeon support. see alex 67's comment The former is capable of easily accumulating many boosts to pass to a team mate, while the latter insuring that Whirlwind and Roar will not remove these boosts.</p>

<p>Latios can run moves aside besides Draco Meteor, or make use of a healing move for team support. Thunder Wave enables Latios to further cripple his enemies cutting their speed and providing a handy paralysis chance that can be useful to get an extra boost. Tailwind enables Latios to double the speed of his team, and when being used in conjunction with Memento, Latios has little trouble getting a team mate in to abuse the boosts to defense and speed. Finally, Latios can run Dragon Pulse as an option for more reliable STAB than Draco Meteor. However, Dragon Pulse is fairly weak, being incapable of breaking even the Substitutes of a 252 HP Ho-oh or Lugia.</p>

<p>Latios's current spread is designed so that he can avoid a 2HKO on average from Timid Scarf Palkia's Spacial Rend, while being able to and outspeed all non-scarf Terrakion. If one feels that Terrakion is simply too uncommon and wishes to increase Latios's bulk, the spread of 252 HP / 192 Spe / 64 SpD can be used to outspeed all non-scarf Garchomp. If you feel that Garchomp is also too rare to deserve EV investment, then the spread of 252 HP/ 160 SpD / 96 Spe enables Latios to outspeed all base 90s while retaining a fairly high amount of special bulk.</p>

[SET]

name: Special Attacker
move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Surf / Hidden Power Fire
move 3: Thunder / Grass Knot
move 4: Trick / Psyshock / Dragon Pulse
item: Choice Specs
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>Although Latios may appear too weak to run a offensive set due to his below average Special Attack, Latios has a few unique advantages as a specially offensive dragon. Unlike other dragons, Latios is blessed with an ability in Levitate, STAB Psyshock, Trick, and an above average base 110 speed. With Choice Specs, Latios can abuse all three of these advantages wonderfully, being able to switch in on Earthquake, taking take damage only from Stealth Rock, and wreak havoc with its Special Attack that is bolstered by Choice Specs. Draco Meteor is the crux of the set, 1-2HKOing everything that does not resist it bar Blissey and Chansey. Surf and Hidden Power Fire give Latios the ability to hit Steel-types hard and gain a Psuedo-STAB psuedo-STAB in Rain and Sun rain and sun, respectively. Thunder allows Latios to OHKO offensive Kyogre and non-Wacan Berry boosted Manaphy, but leaves it vulnerable to Ground add hypehntypes that may switch into his attacks. Grass Knot hits opponents for massive damage, notably still OHKOing offensive Kyogre and now OHKOing Groudon. things for massive damage and enables Latios to still maintain an OHKO on offensive Kyogre while now OHKOing Groudon. However, Manaphy finds it easy to set up in the face of Grass Knot due to its paltry 20 base power against it. The last moveslot is a very tricky choice. Trick enables Latios to cripple all Special special walls and lock them into one move. Psyshock is an option for hitting Chansey and Blissey, 2HKOing the latter with no hazards, and always 2HKOing the former after Stealth Rocks and a layer of Spikes. Dragon Pulse is a strong, reliable STAB Dragon-type move and can be used to clean up weakened teams.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>Latios can opt to run an Expert Belt or Dragon Plate to bluff Choice Specs, and deal heavy damage whilst being able to switch moves. However, the power boost lost from Specs is noticeable, as Psyshock now only tickles Chansey and Blissey, and is easily with in their Softboiled healing range. Latios can no longer 2HKO the former with Stealth Rock and 3 layers of spikes. Latios can also use a Life Orb set with the same moves and Recover to heal off Life Orb recoil, but Latios will rarely find time to use Recover, and it hits many common Ubers for low damage without the boost it receives from Choice Specs specs. Latios cannot manage to 2HKO Blissey with Life Orb without hazard support, leaving Latios helpless against her it.</p>

[Other Options]

<p>Latios can run a Choice Scarf set to become a very potent revenge killer. It is the only dragon capable of outspeeding and OHKOing Timid Scarf Palkia, while also being able to and can trick its scarf Choice Scarf onto any un suspecting Chansey or Blissey that try to wall it. Outside of this, however, Latios has no usable options that do not leave him outclassed. </p>

[Checks and Counters]

<p>Latios attempting to use dual screens are best stopped by Darkrai and Wobbufet. Both are capable of rendering Latios useless by their own means. Should Latios switch when confronted with a Darkrai, then whatever is switched in will be put to sleep, effectively crippling the team. Should Latios stay in to confront the dark monster, it will experience nasty dreams and be used as set-up fodder. Wobbufett is mentioned as well, as it forces Latios to Memento or Draco Meteor. Should Latios choose otherwise, it will be locked onto a screen, effectively transforming it into set-up bait as Latios cannot switch courtesy of due to Wobbufet's Shadow Tag. Virtually any Pokemon faster then Latios with Taunt or Encore shuts dual screen Latios down. Whimsicott comes to mind when considering these characteristics,[comma] as it carries both moves and can use Latios to start a permanent sub seed cycle on it.</p>

<p>The Specially Offensive specially offensive Dragon is completely countered by any Support Arceus carrying a plate. Support Ghost Arceus deserves a special mention due to the fact it easily absorbs all of Latios's hits and can recover the damage off. Support Ghost Arceus can also swiftly eliminate Latios with a STAB Super Effective Judgement, as well as maintaining having an immunity to its Trick. Chansey and Blissey wall sets utilizing Dragon Pulse, but are in a world of pain if Latios carries Psyshock, and both are severely crippled when tricked a pair of Choice Specs.</p>
