Look At What I Chained - Mark II

I'm chaining for shiny Hoppips/Skiplooms/Jumpluffs in Heal Balls. Wish me luck!

EDIT: Okay, this sucks. The highest chain I've gotten so far is 6.
I've only tried chaining about 5 times in the past, but 4 of those have been successful. So why am I having so much trouble now?

After reading about all of the "unsafe" patches, I'm doing worse trying to go into the right ones. :(
If I see another Shellos or Buizel ruin my chain, I will snap!

Started chaining about a week ago and haven't been able to break 40 yet (maybe Larvitar isn't the best first chain pokemon to use), but I have gotten one shiny. Pretty good nature and stats too (even though adamant synch failed me...)

Route 205 (PokeRadar only).
At first the patch of grass looks nice. It's nice and rectangular, but the problem is that it's relatively small. You don't notice it by looking at it, but when you're actually chaining, 4-away from the center usually lands on the edge, because it's only 9 spots wide.

I honestly think I've just had some bad luck. Even I know I'm not that bad at chaining... I hope. xD

Then go with what I do for small patches: stand off-center. That will put some four-away within the grass, at the cost of it not showing up at all (falling outside the grass).

That's what I began doing.
But it was weird. I was looking out for isolation, clustering, etc., but after about 5, I would find a Shellos or something, even though I clearly counted 4 steps away, and it had a buddy.

Maybe it had the 1-away as its buddy? Is that not allowed?
 
I dunno what to tell you flurries, I've had so much bad luck on my gloom as well. I got to 39 chains multiple times today on it, and they break. I did have some decent luck today, though. I got shiny jolly/timid chatots. The jolly one had ivs somewhere around 30/7/(don't remember)26/20's(not remembered lol)/27 Is a jolly one worth keeping with that attack? I was going for timid, but my synch failed me. I just decided to take a gloom break and chain a chatot to test my thoughts on "optimal patches". I think I understand that now, atleast. The timid one had suck crappy ivs I won't even post them.
 
I'm still on a chain of 88 Zubat, my largest chain EVAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So far unfortunately only 6 shinies, yeah I've really got to stop going into patches. Hope to get a lot, wish me luck.
 
Dr. Enzyme - I have some... please don't kill me though. :)

Flurries - You're not alone, those Hoppips absolutely punished me, I never got to 40 on them. KB did though, so I'm happy. That patch blows to say the least. Skiploom's isn't much better but you could try it out.

Shelcario - Why would you enter post-40 patches if you actually want shinies? I don't understand why you work hard and struggle (not to mention PM the shit out of me) to get to 40 then risk everything for literally nothing.

I'll post the results of my Ampharos chain tomorrow probably. I got a couple decent HP Grass ones.
 
Going to go for Slowpokes sometime in the future. Already got my Bold Synch, just need to migrate my Calm one now. What poke ball should I use?

Tracker - I'd catch the Calm ones in Heal Balls and the Bold ones in Dive Balls (if you can) or Luxury perhaps.

These were the best of the batch from my Absol chain, which got up to 105 before I decided to break it off myself (after getting bored a bit). Both were caught in sexy Premier balls:
