Marvel v Capcom 3 discussion

Man, I don't think I'll buy it unless it's like $10ish. Why do we have to pay for patches, as I'm pretty sure the word patch implies fixing something broken.

If they add like 10 characters, then that's a different story.
I doubt it'll be just patches, it'll probably be more like SF4 > SSF4 (new characters, balance changes, etc.) Even in Arcade Edition of SSF4 they're improving the replay channel, so maybe in Super MvC3 we'll actually get one =D

I'll pay for this if I have the money, no problem. Even though I rarely have online matches with bearable lag. =( I'm wayyy looking forward to Skullgirls for that reason!

I kind of think this sort of thing is unnecessary as far as the community is concerned though. There's a ton to sift through in the game as it is, so it's not like balance patches or new characters or whatever are terribly needed.

But who cares, let's see some Phoenix Wright!

That match was worth it just to see Josh Wong play Felicia, though I have no idea why he decided to weigh his team down with Phoenix, she hurt more than she helped...

He wanted to get the easy win and got owned because he fails at using Phoenix.

Clockwork has the best Phoenix I've seen 'cause it's not just there for Dark Phoenix, but he does work with regular Phoenix. Not to mention he uses Blade Ammy and has a great Doom on point.

Most people just rely on Dark Phoenix's power, while Clock seems to actually play the character.

So yeah Clock <3

FilipinoChamp actually seemed solid with Phoenix too, really. But it'll definitely be interesting to see how the character evolves. It's difficult to say how effective she'll be in the long run.

Not only did he fail at using Phoenix, he failed at team building. Clearly his Felicia needed meter to be worth anything and he still restricted it with Phoenix (and that is not even factoring in the KOs he could have gotten with Dante had he just used the Hypers to finish his combos).

He does some interesting things, but I have definitely seen better, Viscant for one, he definitely has one of the best Phoenixes out there.

Her effectiveness will probably drop off, especially as people learn to properly counter her, sure she will still be good, but nowhere near the level which we are seeing now.

Me and SDS were debating on second best character (as we both agreed on Wesker being the the top). I said Mag for mobility, supers, meterbuilding combos, etc. He insisted Taskmaster for his range, mega chip, and great supers as well.

Thoughts? Another person conversation suggested Ammy, but we all agreed on Wesker at top.

I agree with Ammy being second best at the very least. I mean people haven't even started using the sword for stuff that isn't an OTG (except MarlinPie <3), and she's already so good.

Wesker is clearly the best. If pressed for the second best in my eyes, I would agree with Xaqwais and say Mag-freaking-neato. With mags, you have an incredibly versatile member; amazing meter building combo, great supers, mobility (flying is so good; most flying charaters are great on average), ability to be a great rushdown asset, same capability at camping with DISRUPTA, and it doesn't hurt having a good assist to round him out.

On the other hand, Taskmaster has a muuuch better ranged pressure game, forcing a lot of dudes to approach. He also has great supers in regards to chipping and DHC options, as well as extremely damaging combos. I think the lack of a stellar assist and slight trouble approaching the few characters who can outcamp him hurt him when comparing him to Magneto. He's definitely up there. No doubt.

However, I'd place Ammy over Taskmaster. Practically everything you say about Magneto could be said about her. I think his increased mobility wins out when comparing the two, in this case.

So Wesker then Magneto. The rest of top tier are rounded out by Ammy/Sent(even with Nerf)/Phoenix(as things stand, though people getting better could make her drop)/Taskmaster.

That's top tier. High tier would be Zero/Storm/Dante/Dormammu/Tron/etc.
I hope I didn't miss any really good character.

i agree almost entirely with Mr Esc. dunno about Taskmaster though... but then again i dont see him a whole lot

Taskmaster is great. His arrows eat up a lot of other projectiles and come out fast, his Mighty Swing is great for pressure and combos, and though he only has two hypers they are both very useful.

A lot of people diss the counter moves and the hyper counter, but they are both very useful against some of the most frequently used characters (Wesker, Dante, Ammy, Wolvie in particular)

Dante's inevitable Teleport-S can be easily caught with a high counter or Aegis Counter

If you're fast you can hit the Aegis Counter in between the blockstun of Ammy's HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Wesker is a bit more difficult, but you bait his teleports and counter in a manner similar to Dante

On a side note, Taskmaster's regular counter, when doing the Heavy version, will deflect projectiles. If done quick enough, you can basically nullify and troll any projectile spammers - even Magneto's DISRUPTA! (though this one has very tight timing)

Wolvie gets countered for free since he's basically all rushdown, dem dive kicks get SECRET MOVE'd to hell.

And of course, you can always tiger knee into a downward Legion Arrow after you connect the hyper counter!

I definitely agree with Mr Escalator, but that said, I would be inclined to move Dante up to the top tier as well. We have not even reached a point where he is making proper use of all of his moves and he is still a nightmare of a character...

If I had to guess the top 5, I think I'd go with Wesker, She-Hulk, Dante, Magneto and Dormammu.

Dormammu.. seriously he's underrated, and with Sentinel assist his keepaway is ridiculous. Plus his BnB does a ton of damage and he can end with level 3, usually killing something). He has a nice teleport (Stalking Flare into teleport is downright dirty). I've killed full health characters merely from chip because they simply can't get in.

On a cool note, I've got the Doom buktooth combo down :D

Eh, if I had to go top 5, I'd say:

Wesker
Taskmaster
Magneto
Amaterasu
Dante

Wesker's got it all. 1.1 million HP, an incredible rushdown game, solid chip-away with jump-gun-downport pressure which is hilarious. He's also got AMERICA'S FAVORITE COMBO, and his gun OTG assist is incredibly useful for a lot of characters that have problems OTGing on their own. His only real issue is that his level 1 hypers are pretty bad in terms of usefulness- Maximum Wesker doesn't have any invincibility and its damage is pretty bad, but it crosses up like a motherfucker midscreen which is absolutely ridiculous, and his counter is "that thing you accidentally use when you intend to DHC into Maximum Wesker". However, as a 1.1m HP character with effectively no bad matchups, Wesker definitely takes top spot.

Taskmaster gives him a run for his money though, IMO. He has a MUCH better chip-away ranged pressure game with his arrows, both in normal form and in hyper form, and his mobility is great to boot. He also does plenty of damage with Mighty Swing BNBs, and has solid mid-range rushdown pressure. He's also got the staying power that 1.1 million HP affords, which is definitely a big deal when you're going up against more damaging characters. Finally, his arrow assist is very useful for covering you while you close the distance or just for helping with ranged pressure.

Magneto being third is mainly because of his HP. Disruptor gives him solid ground keepaway (but his air keepaway is kinda meh, so any character with a solid jumpin toasts him), and he's also got absolutely vicious mixups and VERY damaging combos. His Disruptor assist is also great, and he has 3 very useful Hypers in the form of Magnetic Shockwave (covers the whole screen, and can be DHCed immediately without sacrificing any power), Magnetic Tempest (which works with the DHC Glitch for lulzy power), and GRAVITY SQUEEZE (which is just straight up ridiculous). The only issue I have with him is that his 850k HP makes him fold really badly against any character that can mount effective pressure against him. If he starts a match off on the wrong foot he can really end up in trouble.

Amaterasu is a character that first got "discovered" back when Sentinel was the retardedly powerful top dog, mainly because of her tiny hitbox and solid keepaway in the form of Cold Star. She's got a ridiculously huge movepool, with tools for keepaway, melee power, midrange, and closing the distance all in one. Okami Shuffle is a great Hyper as well, and Cold Star makes a great assist (using it to cover Doom's Hidden Missiles, anyone?) However, she's merely "okay" against pressure- paper helps her and counters work if your timing is good, but 800k HP means she folds really fast against anyone that can land a hit in melee, which isn't terribly hard.

Dante's 5th because of the power of his teleport mixups, "decent" keepaway outside of Devil Trigger in the form of Missile Swarm (though it doesn't keep people out for long enough to actually make a difference), and general solid moveset. He's also got great supers for DHCing, since a DHC into or through Devil Trigger is extremely useful, and his gun super is fantastic at all ranges. However, again, 900k HP hurts him a lot since he tends to get nicked in melee.

i agree almost entirely with Mr Esc. dunno about Taskmaster though... but then again i dont see him a whole lot
Taskmaster is IMO the biggest dick in MvC right now, which is saying quite abit considering this is MvC. Epic chip and absurd projectile spam make him really annoying to face and very useful when playing. That said, Magneto is just such a baller he's a shoo-in for second-best

Has there been any confirmation recently of additional characters? There were rumors awhile back on shoryuken at least of Doc Ock, Frank West, Venom, and X being in line to be DLC.

Nothing confirmed yet, but apparently all that has been happening in Japan recently has set them back on their plan for MvC3, so who knows what we may see in the future.

Apparently Daigo has been secretly practicing mvc3, and he'll be playing it at EVO. How interesting!

Also PSN is suppose to be up, hopefully I get to play some games with a bunch of you before I head to China.

Hopefully, Daigo will deliver some epic matches and not let the viewers down!

He was a pretty high tier GG player too, and from what I see, GG players are pretty damn awesome at MvC3. In fact, I'd say as a whole, they're doing better than most MvC2 vets (sans Jwong). But we'll see for sure in July.
