Mass Effect 3

Well shiiiit, how many FPS games already have RPG elements in their multiplayer? Though honestly multiplayer could be really good if its cooperative.

ME2 is pretty much a shooter as is. RPG Shooters make perfectly fine competitive multiplayer games. I wouldn't want them to divert resources to it, but it's BioWare Montreal that's working on it anyway and it's not like they were going to be working on the single player.

Here's the detective work used for finding out ME3 will have multiplayer: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=25135243&postcount=1503

Here's the detective work aka outright statement that ME3 is done:

ME MMO has been rumored.
I would say that's impossible. EA does not have the resources to be doing both a Star Wars: The Old Republic and Mass Effect MMO at the same time. TOR is already their most expensive game in history.

yeah I thought that was a bit eyebrow raising myself, but I can see how the style of game would lend itself to MMO quite readily.

Rumors are rumors. ME delving into multiplayer aspects make me raise my eyebrow in general. I'm eager to see how that will work out.

How reliable a rumour is depends on a number of factors. I'd say the multiplayer one is a strong possibility, campaign being complete is pretty much confirmed, and the MMO is no a snowball's chance in hell.

I hope they never make an MMO. I don't see any elephant sized reason to do so. If the Multiplayer factor is implemented, the final product will definitely interest me. It will have to be reworked quite a bit for balancing purposes. I mean, Biotics in a multiplayer? They have some work ahead of them.

They won't. The audience is going to be smaller than the one for TOR but similar. They'd be competing against themselves. Not to mention they don't have the resources to do it.

MASS EFFECT 3 DETAILS
*SPOILERS*

Paraphrased:

Game starts with Shepard on Earth, effectively on trial in regard to the events of Arrival, and in the middle of the trial, the Reapers invade. Prologue involves Shepard's escape to the Normandy, and off to start finding those allies, fighting Reaper troops (husks of all the different species) the whole way.

Confirmed squadmates: Liara, Ashley/Kaiden, Garrus (if he's alive) and James Sanders (unknown, but might be related to Kahlee Sanders).

Speaking of which, there's a screenshot of Ashley with her hair down, and she actually looks attractive.
first-mass-effect-3-details-better-rpg-elements-mods-and-multiple-endings.jpg

Confirmed to appear, but not guaranteed as team mates: Wrex, Mordin, Legion, and Anderson. Obviously, if they live.

The game will by default feature a "previously on Mass Effect" comic to make decisions with if starting from scratch.

The Illusive Man also plays a prominent role, and Cerberus is out to kill Shepard. Reason why is unknown at this point.

The RPG elements are being beefed up, not going back to ME1, but giving more freedom with the character skills. Skill trees will be larger, and powers will evolve several times instead of just once, offering even more freedom. Weapons are ME2 style, with a set list, but mods make a return, not in the ME1 style, but allowing you to swap out different parts such as barrels, scopes, and so on, which effect both the weapon's combat performance and its appearance.

All classes can wield all weapons unhindered now, but will have limited slots to carry them. Only the Soldier can carry all weapons at once. Probably means Adept, Engineer, and Sentinal will be limited to two, and Vanguard and Infiltrator will have three.

Also mentioned: The game will have numerous endings, some good, some bad, and who you have in your squad and which allies you recruit can have a drastic effect on which are available.

ME3 is going to be fucking sweet.

Oh look its a reply to a spoiler post probably dont read this if youre not cool with that
And suddenly I feel GREAT about picking the paragon option at the end of ME2, haha. I hadn't really expected this if you went Renegade, though. Kinda expecting Miranda as a fairly important questgiver if she's alive and Cerberus is a major player, since she's supposedly some big spymaster informant and is more loyal to Shepard(if loyalty mission completed, obviously) than the Illusive Man by the end of ME2 anyway. Would make that resignation line if she's in the party while making the endgame decision paragon-style a little more meaningful. She's awfully tough to kill while keeping Shepard alive though, she's probably the safest for BioWare to assume the survival of so I wouldn't be surprised if she had a decent sized plot role.

Nice to see Garrus and Liara back. I could take or leave the ME1 survivor but yeah whatever that's nice I guess. Seems unlikely they'll give Garrus but not Tali since there's a sort of... gender equality there, because of romances, I guess? so I'm hoping/expecting her, too. I'd be pretty much fine with just the ME1 squad again so glad that's apparently basically what happened.

I'd kind of anticipated this whole gathering forces to defeat the Reapers plotline(I recall mentioning it to a friend midway through ME2, actually) and had built my last playthrough's decisions in anticipation of that so I feel pretty prepared, but suddenly feel like playing through again anyway.

Excited about multiple endings, though. I'm a sucker for those. Ever since Chrono Trigger as a kid...

I wish you guys would put spoiler tags on this shit.

I have a renegade character I played through ME1 and 2 with. I also have a paragon character in ME2.

The new DLC for ME2 will be significant- get it if you haven't already. Batarians are poised to develop quite nicely based on your decision at the end and it COULD have a major major impact, considering how militaristic they are.

At first I was surprised, but then I realized what TIM actually is. If you've read Evolutions, you'd know that TIM used to be in the Alliance military at the time of the First Contact War/Relay 314 Incident and was affect by some Reaper technology. Most likely we had been partially "huskified" and subject to subtle indoctrination effects (he does hear whispers in his mind, much like Paul Grayson after being affected by the Reaper nanobots). Seems far-fetched now, but they'll most likely explain it in ME3.

Fixed my old post for Morm. And I hope we get to kick some more Batarian ass. I hate them.

I'd really like to see the other races' involvement, besides squad members, with helping out Earth. Sure, most of them will probably just say "fuck earth, let the Reapers destroy it" but seeing Sheperd's pull with some of the races will be really interesting to see.

That's a good point, Morm. I'd kind of mentally made a checklist of things that would likely effect the recruitment thing -- mostly the Racchni Queen decision, Wrex's Status, and the loyalty missions of Mordin, Tali, and Legion -- and forgot about that somehow. I can imagine having to choose between the Quarians and Geth, but wonder how the Turians and Asari will play out since we've never really seen anything more specific from then than the government on the Citadel, though presumably they and the Salarians would be grateful if you didn't let the Destiny Ascension get blown into teeny tiny bits. Seems like an opportunity for them to show us something new as far as some sort of home planet for the Council races, though... wonder if they will.

You don't HAVE to pick between the Geth and Quarians, just be badass enough to tell tali what she wants to hear and then go back to legion. If you were fighting to save the galaxy, the Geth are infinitely more useful against husks and reapers.

I honestly don't see a way that any race, aside from Turians (Asari's making them help aside) and the Batarians (pending your choice in the last DLC), wouldn't be like "wow holy fuck, dozens of giant ships that have made it clear they are here to kill everyone running over earth like a bulldozer" and then send everything they had.

I am DYING waiting for the cinematic of fleets going toe to toe. You know it's gonna happen.

I mean, in ME3. I know you don't have to make a decision in ME2 if you have an even competent Paragon or Renegade score between Tali/Legion (and Miranda/Jack)'s loyalty but that's a battle won, not a war. After you leave the Flotila it still sounds like conflict is pretty inevitable regardless of Shepard's snappy speech about not shooting each other so we can save the world from the Reapers or whatever if you choose that dialogue option... BioWare loves forcing you to make choices, sure seems like a good opportunity to make you do that at some point in ME3, don't you think?

I imagine saving Earth will take some convincing. I mean so because of tactics rather than ethics -- it's unlikely a majority of the humans' resources are on Earth as far as warships or whatever, and rushing out to defend Earth, especially if everyone isn't prepared(which I'm sure they aren't in spite of the events of the Arrival DLC), might be a risk to a greater amount of resources than letting Earth burn and fighting once the Council races are more prepared somewhere closer to the Citadel. I could see there being some dispute, there.

It's pretty clear to me that there will be an insurgence from the heretics as soon as the reapers come. What happens with the other Geth and the Quarians is likely going to be a renegade/paragon forced decision for peace, war pretty much no matter what otherwise.

It is very real that Earth will be lost entirely, it's THE target- I think the theme will be uniting the galaxy and recognizing humanity as worth saving. The hinge might actually be the Turians, who knows.

Once again I'm regretting my decision to buy a Mac instead of a PC. Hopefully by the time ME3 comes out I will have replaced this old piece of shit for something that can play games.

After reading that spoiler list on the previous page I just have a few thought.

The mining mini-game won’t be abandoned completely.
Really? Of all the things for BioWare to continue from ME2, they pick the goddam mining game? I'll admit that I had fun the first few times I scanned a planet, but once it lost its novelty I realized what a huge waste of time it really was. Weapon upgrades were extremely useful throughout ME2, but going down to a planet with your team and raiding a facility to grab better weps was much more enjoyable to me. I can only hope that it won't take nearly as much time to deplete a planet, or that mining won't be nearly as necessary as in ME2.

Skill trees to be larger.
Good. What ME3 really needs is a balance of the skill trees from the earlier two games. Every character in ME1 had way too many skills to max, especially considering how necessary almost all of them were in the early stages. ME2 had far too few skills imo. Each character basically had one thing they did very well and everything else was just a point dump. What I really need them to do is give more characters the shield and armor drains (I don't remember their names). ME2 had me using Miranda every damn mission, just because she was the only character who learned both of them.

Vehicle Based Exploration is currently considered and might return in ME3
Please please please.

The only other thing that's bothering me right now is the lack of any mention of Tali. She's my favorite <3

Just boot camp it. If you have a newish MBP, you should be able to play ME1 + 2 + 3 very well.

Also, don't worry about Tali. There's no way BioWare will not put in Tali and Garrus. Otherwise, they'll have to contend with some very pissed off fanboys and girls. Likely Legion will be in the game for the same reasons.

If you made the humans help the other races in ME1, I'm sure they will help Earth in ME3.
Assuming complete Paragon, yes. But what about all the races you acted differently toward? I'm looking forward to seeing that, and Sheperd's reactions based on those variables.
