wtf az we have the same post count if you post again you must let me know when you plan on posting in the future so we can keep this up.

In honour of Sal's birthday spawn now has cakes.

Many cakes.

If anyone also has seen any two biome slime chunks that might be useful for a farm, that or if anyone has some special swamp farm method that is currently unknown to me.

I'm willing to use my resources to make the slime farm if 2 adjacent chunks are found. I made the slime farm in Oho Oasis on the last server and that turned out decently I thought so yea

EDIT: also, if someone knows a truly massive ocean, then please let me know since I might try and make a big mob grinder again. I made one on the last server and although it was never completed and shown to the public it had decent rates for gunpowder and arrows.

Well the ideal ocean would be a very deep ocean which reduces the number of caves, and also broad enough to cover a circle of radius 128m. Even if the afk point is at y = 0, the circle at sea level will have a radius of 110m. The idea is that there should be a minimum amount of spots where mobs can spawn. If the ocean is big enough then all I need to do is light up the caves in the surrounding area (still, easier said than done).

Before I do any work on this though it might be sensible to wait for the witch farm to be made first. If that has a decent gunpowder drop rate then there's little need to make a big mob grinder really.

Im no expert on mob spawnedge but wouldn't squid take up spawn room? but I may have an ocean for you ill let you know if its big enough.

Squids have a separate spawn counter so they don't meddle with the hostile mob spawns (unless this changed sometime, which I highly doubt).

Even if there aren't any oceans big enough we can still settle for the biggest one available, it just means that there will be more to light up above ground and more cave systems to deal with.

I'm gonna say it doesn't have a decent gunpowder drop rate, since there is an extremely small area they spawn in and it's partially cut off by a river biome. They also don't spawn very often, and only have a CHANCE to drop gunpowder.

Since I know you like challenges sid, what I would suggest instead is either:

-possibly creating a sorting system where zombies / skeletons are killed via sunlight (possibly with a gate system controlled by a light sensor), and creepers drop as normal

-create an item sorting system after the mobs fall to their death using hoppers and such, where rotten flesh/arrows/bones get dropped into lava using the dropper, and gunpowder / rare drops are just stored as normal

Obviously, auto mob drop farms become much much easier when 1.5 comes out, but there are definitely a few oceans around that i've seen (look in the +,+ direction iirc) so you could scout them out first.

Quick responses to the above post-

- I can think of quite a few problems with the mob sorting. First of all it is dependant on it being day time, and even then there's problems with finding a way to send the mobs to a place where sunlight can kill them and then move the creepers on. Zombies and skele's wont catch on fire if they're being controlled by a water stream. The other ways to move them would be with minecarts or pistons I guess. With pistons, I guess it is conceivable to move all the mobs one by one in some sort of piston conveyor belt type deal while making sure they stay in the light long enough to die. I guess something similar can be done with minecarts although I don't know how you'd get the creepers out of the minecarts once you get them into a minecart.

Item sorting systems should be easy once 1.5 comes out no problem. Could probably even add a system where you can choose which drops to store and keep. This could be helpful if you want to stock up on arrows while you get gunpowder.

All this stuff happens at the end of gathering the mobs together and shouldn't take nearly as much time and resources as building the actual spawning pads.

Found an NPC village at coords x: -1965 y: 1551 for those of you who want to do something with it.

Also, I'm trading 3 diamonds away for 3 stacks of oak logs. Just saying.

As far as spawn rates of the Witch farm go, they will actually be pretty decent - I found a very efficient way to light up caves without missing a single dark spot, and when the only dark spot left is the actual Witch area, you get ~75 Witches in less then 10 seconds.
For gunpowder only, however, a "normal" mob farm will probably be more efficient since, like tennis said, Witches have 7 different drops.

If you could share this efficient way of lighting up caves sometimes I'd be very grateful. At the moment I just plan to dig down, strip mine at various levels until I run into caves and then just light those up.

Btw lighting up every cave is so hard, especially in a non-ocean biome, that I really doubt anyone would be able to light up every dark spot 100%.
